Seemed as good of a time as any to post about the bombshell quote from one of our faves. Decided to do it about 45 min ago, lol. Why not? This statement was loaded. https://narniadispatches.blogspot.com/2019/07/pink-elephant-in-room-what-pink.html

On spoiler culture: “There’s a big speech I give in the movie and as I give this speech, crew members were asking for ear plugs because they didn’t want to know what was happening. So there’s a kind of devotion to the MCU and to the world of Marvel that’s kind of unprecedented. When my friends tell me things about their lives or they ask for my secrecy, I consider it to be one of the highest honours you could ever have. As long as it’s not hurting someone, to hold somebody’s secrecy or privacy is a beautiful thing. I like the idea that, at least for now, I know things that other people would be so deeply entertained by – and more entertained when they don’t. So I love it. And I love playing with people who want to know.” - Jake G. in GQ UK edition

  8. Jake Gyllenhaal dropped by “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Friday, and things got a little weird thanks to a piece of viewer mail. During Gyllenhaal’s chat with hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, Ripa read a letter from a viewer who requested that she divorce husband Mark Consuelos and marry the “Spider-Man: Far From Home” star.

“Now, I am not discounting this letter at all. I just want to put that out there,” deadpanned Ripa, joking that her new marital situation “may be better” for her children.

“So, what do you say Jake?” she asked him.

“It feels like a lot of pressure for a moment like this,” he admitted, “but I’m open to it.

According to Ripa, she’s already discussed her impending second marriage with her current spouse — who’s apparently cool with it.

“We have time to figure it out. I ran it by Mark. He thinks you are a hell of a guy, and he thinks that you would make a great stepfather to our kids,” she joked, later quipping, “Dreams do come true.” Meanwhile, in another part of the interview, Gyllehnaal revealed his job before becoming a successful actor: sous chef!

  25. The actor spent months keeping the true nature of his role a secret — including on the press tour: "The characters who teach our heroes a lesson don’t always have to be like Obi-Wan."

    ReplyDelete
  26. In a recent conversation with THR, Gyllenhaal also discusses his return to Broadway on July 26 as Abe in A Life, the A-list filmmakers who influenced the role of Mysterio and his reaction to 2008’s The Dark Knight, which starred his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and Brokeback Mountain co-star Heath Ledger.

Q: I was exhausted by just watching your Far From Home press tour unfold. Have you finally recovered, or is there a bit of a hangover still?

Jake: There wasn’t much recovery needed. It’s a tremendously invigorating process. Even though you’re flipping time zones like a psychopath, you’re being greeted in every city with this incredible energy. We would arrive in each city, one farther destination after the next, and there would be a crowd of people at the airport who were so excited to see us … and they’re filled with enthusiasm and positivity. Compared to a lot of different tours that I’ve done that were less extensive, it was really invigorating.

Q: When you agreed to play Mysterio, did you realize then that you’d have to play Mysterio again during the press tour, given his hero facade you had to uphold?

Jake: (Laughs.) Yes, I did. I knew that there would be a meta quality throughout that process. But, it wasn’t difficult because I genuinely adore Tom Holland, and we love spending time with each other. For a majority of the movie, we are really on the same side. It could be argued, at least from where I stand, that we were on the same side anyway, even by the end of the movie. I kinda liked it; maybe that's what made the press tour so entertaining for me. It was still a certain type of performance.

Q: You’re performing A Life, which is about life and death as well as fatherhood. In what ways does this piece strike a chord with you?

Jake: It was given to me by Nick Payne, the playwright, while we were working on another show called Constellations a number of years ago. I asked him to do it every year for about five years, and he refused because it was so personal. Every time I read it, I would be laughing out loud, and then I’d cry in moments that just hit me so deeply. It is about fatherhood — and I have yet to be a father — but it’s also about family, love and faith. I think those concepts really strike me, and the way he writes is so honest that it just creates something wholly original. Once we started to perform it in front of audiences, I realized that it creates a night of theater that is unlike anything you have experienced. I’ve never come back to a piece over and over again that’s made me cry and made me laugh just reading it, either to myself, or out loud over a six-year period. So, I just needed to do it.

Perhaps the baby bug hit while performing onstage.

"It's a show about faith and family and the mess and comedy of life," Gyllenhaal explained in a teaser. "It's about, really actually about two fathers and about, for my character, someone who is just about to become a father. Also, he goes back into his own relationship with his own father and the passing of his father and how that makes him feel becoming a father."

As much as he looks ahead, Gyllenhaal also speaks candidly about the past in his upcoming interview. Especially when it comes to his 2005 groundbreaking role in Brokeback Mountain.

  57. Ang Lee’s 2005 romance “Brokeback Mountain” was a seminal moment in queer film history. With eight Oscar nominations and $178 million grossed at the worldwide box office, the film brought mature queer themes and a gay love story to the masses like few films before it in history. The industry embraced “Brokeback Mountain,” but that didn’t stop the film from becoming the center of endless homophobic jokes over the next decade. In a new interview with “Today,” “Brokeback” actor Jake Gyllenhaal reveals his late co-star Heath Ledger refused to let people he encountered get away with making gay “Brokeback” jokes.

“I see people who have joked with me or criticized me about lines I say in that movie — and that’s the thing I loved about Heath,” Gyllenhaal said. “He would never joke. Someone wanted to make a joke about the story or whatever, he was like, ‘No. This is about love’. Like, that’s it, man. Like, no.’”

Both Gyllenhaal and Ledger received Oscar nominations for their performances in the movie. While “Brokeback” opened new dramatic doors for Gyllenhaal, it didn’t take long for him to realize the film had taken on a life beyond just his career. “It opened tons of doors. It was crazy. It was amazing. It’s defined my career in different ways,” he said. “[But the film] is bigger than me…It has become not ours anymore. It’s the world’s.”

The movie’s success proved to Hollywood that queer subject matter could be hugely profitable at the box office. Funnily enough, Gyllenhaal and Ledger were not the first choices to play the movie’s lead roles. Gus Van Sant developed “Brokeback” before Ang Lee came on board and told IndieWire last year the film was offered to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars at the time.

“Nobody wanted to do it,” Van Sant said. “I was working on it, and I felt like we needed a really strong cast, like a famous cast. That wasn’t working out. I asked the usual suspects: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ryan Phillippe. They all said no. Yes, all those young gentlemen [at the time] turned down the project, for various reasons.”

Watch Gyllenhaal’s “Today” interview on “Brokeback Mountain” in the video below.

we were in the orchestra and the show was absolutely incredible!! it's basically two monologues, each with their own stories. one is tom sturridge and one is jake gyllenhaal does another. they both are basically about life and death, and it's just incredibly moving and inspiring. jake's is definitely more serious with comedic timing and tom's is all serious pretty much, very sad.

Gyllenhaal and Reynolds’ friendship makes scientific sense. The universe ultimately wants maximum entropy, and between themselves, they have SO MUCH CHAOTIC ENERGY.

She recalls how Gyllenhaal at one point tested his entire monologue at a stand-up mic; Sturridge once came in and played a whole piano set before getting to work for the day. There was even a week when Gyllenhaal’s dog, Leo, was proposed as a costar. “His dog was a really big feature—we even talked about his dog being in the show and maybe coming onstage,” Cracknell says. “Leo just brought this kind of amazing warmth and energy to all of us when he was in the rehearsal room.”

  115. Maggie Gyllenhaal is opening up about family life.

The 41-year-old The Deuce actress attended a conversation with LensCrafters moderated by The Cut‘s Beauty Editor-at-Large Jake Larkworthy on Wednesday (July 31) to discuss motherhood, wellness, and glasses and eye exams for the family.

During the chat, she revealed nearsightedness runs in the Gyllenhaal family, including mother Naomi and brother Jake.

“They had a real bond over this, like, really intense nearsightedness. And every year they would, you know, go to the doctor and they would choose frames. And so when I was 14, I was like, in on it with them,” she explained.

She also discussed parenting with Peter Sarsgaard: “Neither of us are good at math. My husband thinks that he’s better at it than me and I resent that. I do. I’m not even kidding. I mean, he isn’t. Neither of us are good at it…my husband is really the music guy. He believes that learning to read music and learning to play music is just as important as learning anything else you learn in school. I can read music like a kindergartner. I don’t have the discipline. And he really does. And he has taught both of my daughters how to play instruments.”

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile 5h
Jake was the one who was known to have bad eyesight and there are childhood pictures of him wearing glasses. Not of Big Sis nor the matriarch. Jake even used to work with a charitable organization for those who needed glasses.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Jeanne Cadieu are getting serious
By Mara Siegler August 6, 2019

Things are heating up between Jake Gyllenhaal and his French model girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu.

We hear Cadieu has met his family and that they’ve been on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard together. Cadieu has also been spotted at previews of Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge’s Broadway play “Sea Wall/A Life.” They’re even participating in an art project together. The “Inside Out” photo exhibition, which features portraits of both Cadieu and Gyllenhaal, among many others, adorns the wall outside of the Hudson Theatre.

The couple — who were first linked back in December — have also been turning up at events, including Gyllenhaal’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home” premiere in June and a bash for Cartier in Paris in April.
