The proposal for a film to be directed by Daniel Espinosa and starring Gyllenhaal as Belden was recently announced by the Hollywood Reporter. Belden, who says he is not an anarchist, was as surprised as all of his friends when he found out about it.
"I've got to stop this movie. It'll probably be exploitative and orientalist. It will taint everything I do," he said in a message as he prepared to leave Syria this week. "I'm a communist. I don't want fame."

ReplyDeleteNegan gutted him on The Walking Dead, Norman Bates stabbed him in the back (and dozens of other places) in an homage to the classic Psycho shower death scene on Bates Motel. If it’s been a particularly harsh primetime season for Austin Nichols, it’s certainly been a memorable one, too.
The actor, who followed his Season 7 TWD death as Spencer Monroe by becoming Norman’s latest victim, the philandering Sam Loomis, on Bates, talked to Yahoo TV about both casualties, his makeout scenes with Bates guest star Rihanna and his unusual meeting with leading lady Vera Farmiga, the Friday Night Lights connection that landed him on the A&E drama, and how, understandably, he wouldn’t mind a little more comedy in his next role.
Q: Well, congratulations, and I’m sorry. It’s a great episode. And yes, Sam dies, but in the TV series version of one of the most iconic movie death scenes of all time.
Austin: I know. I can’t believe it. I feel so lucky to somehow become a part of Hitchcock’s world. I knew that I was going to die when they offered me the job, but I had no idea that I was going to be in the shower. I didn’t know what the writers were going to do with that and with Marion and with all that iconic stuff from Psycho. It was a really, really pleasant, beautiful surprise to get that script and to read that, and then to go and shoot it. It was really cool.
Q: But for your next role, even if you’re playing a chef, I think that you need to set a rule that there can be no knives involved.
Austin: [Laughs] I’m getting used to these gruesome deaths by giant knives. I didn’t even realize it until I did The Walking Dead, and now Bates Motel, that I don’t think I’ve ever died in anything that I’ve been a part of, for 16, 17 years. Then I get this really crazy gruesome death from The Walking Dead, that’s really iconic to the fans because it’s really important in the comic books. And now, right after that, Bates, in maybe the most iconic death scene you could ever imagine.
Q: When you signed on for Bates, you said you didn’t know how Sam was going to die. At that point, did you already know what was happening with Spencer on The Walking Dead?
Austin: Yeah, I’d shot his death. We had already finished. I think I already even moved out, everything was done. Then I came back to Los Angeles. I remember I actually had flown to Austin, Texas for a few days. Then [Bates producers] called, and they offered me [the role of Sam]. I was like, “Awesome. That sounds great.” I was on the phone with Carlton [Cuse] and Kerry [Ehrin]. They told me loosely about Sam and Madeleine and our story. Then that I was having an affair with Marion Crane. I was like, “Wow. We’re catching up with the movie. That’s very exciting. Of course I want to be a part of this.” Then, I jumped on a plane. It happened really fast. I went up to Vancouver and started really quickly after The Walking Dead actually aired. It was almost back to back.

I miss him so much, I loved Heath with my heart and soul, and so did Jake and anyone who has been lucky enough to meet him I believe.

I’m trying to have relationships that are as real as they possibly can be on a movie set [and] be close to people because I know that it’s precious. And I know that not only can this career end in a very short period of time and this or that can happen, but also that life is precious,” he noted. “And I think losing Heath — and being a part of a family that was something like that movie we all made together — makes you see that, makes you appreciate that and hopefully moves you away from the things that really don’t matter to the things that do.”

For years he kept it a secret, fearing his fans would be disappointed if the truth was revealed. But on Wednesday, at the age of 73 and at the end of one of the longest and most successful careers in show business, Barry Manilow finally announced to the world that he is gay.
ReplyDeleteThe music legend also confirmed that in 2014 he had married his longtime manager, Garry Kief, in a ceremony at their home in Palm Springs, California. Although a small group of fans and friends were aware of the marriage Manilow’s sexuality was not widely known, until now.
"I'm so private. I always have been. I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything," Manilow - the voice behind countless hits, such as Mandy, Copacabana and Looks Like We Made It - told People magazine.
He says keeping his sexual orientation a secret caused him stress and anxiety and for many years he remained fearful of the public reaction. "When I met Garry, that was even more of a reason to keep my life private,” said Manilow, who has long been known for jealously guarding his private life.
But he now concedes that his fears may have been unwarranted.
"When [the fans] found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy. The reaction was so beautiful – strangers commenting, ‘Great for you!’ I’m just so grateful for it."
Manilow has been with his Kief, who is also President of Barry Manilow Productions, since the couple met in 1978. He said of their meeting: "I knew that this was it. I was one of the lucky ones. I was pretty lonely before that."
Manilow, who has sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, says that Kief is "the smartest person I’ve ever met in my life – and a great guy, too". Suzanne Somers, the American actress and singer who is a friend of the couple, said: "A major career takes two. Between them, there is enormous comfort and trust."
While a student at the New York College of Music in the early Sixties Manilow briefly married 19-year-old Susan Deixler, his high school sweetheart at Eastern District High School, Brooklyn. He walked out on her after just one year of marriage, telling her that he was going on “this wondrous musical adventure”.
Manilow now says that although he was not struggling with his sexuality at the time, he was simply " just was not ready for marriage". “I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats — I was too young,” said the singer. “I wasn’t ready to settle down."
Though sometimes mocked by some critics for what they regarded as his schmaltzy show tunes and lyrics Manilow, who will release his 29th studio album, This is My Town, on April 21, has long earned the respect of his peers. In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped him at a showbiz party, gave him a hug and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."

ReplyDeleteBarry Manilow's former wife has spoken of her happiness for the superstar crooner now that he has married his long-time gay partner. Speaking for the first time since news of her former husband's marriage broke Susan Deixler, 70, told Daily Mail Online exclusively: 'I wish him well. I'm happy for him. I'm glad that he's found love and happiness.
'What happened between us, our relationship, is ancient history and I don't want to dig back into ancient history. It's 50 years ago. You have to remember that I'm not a celebrity. I have children, a life…all that was a long time ago. 'I'm a private person but I'm happy for him. I really am.'
Deixler was just 19 when she married Manilow, her high school sweetheart at Eastern District High School, Brooklyn, New York. She was the prettiest girl in the school. His high school yearbook noted that he was the year's best musician.
Manilow recalled Susan in his 1987 autobiography Sweet Life as 'adorable, small with great legs and a voluptuous figure.' He said she had 'jet-black hair, dark brown eyes and a smile that lit up the room.' The two were married in 1964 before a justice of the peace and then, on her parents' insistence, before a rabbi.
Writing in his autobiography Manilow, who claimed to have fallen 'hard' for Susan admitted that his friends thought the marriage was doomed from the start. He wrote, 'Even my friends thought I was rushing into it.'
But he walked out on 'the perfect wife' after just one year of marriage telling her that he was going on 'this wondrous musical adventure,' even though he claimed in the book that the one thing he wanted more than success as a singer was for Susan to love him as much as he loved her.

For those who have followed Jake Gyllenhaal's career over these many years, one has grown to expect movie promo season to end up being an awkward combination of standard attention seeking antics pieced together with a large dose of image management.

Management teams love to accuse fans and fandoms of "writing" delusional fan fic whenever anyone dares to see beneath the official Flat Stanley narratives that are being thrust upon the public. But, the true purveyors of Wattpad storytelling are the managers, agents and publicists themselves, who exploit the closet and groom their clients into what they perceive to be more "acceptable" (i.e., profitable) human beings.

Hard to imagine today but, prior to 2012, the true Jake Gyllenhaal was not a one trick pony of sturm und drang unease. His public persona back then tended to be fun-loving, approachable, appreciative of fans, sweet-natured, lighthearted, sensitive, and charmingly dorky. Reasonably distanced from the eerily weird and vain performer who now demands to be recognized as the most gifted and respected actor around. *Cough* At least that is how his management team has been selling him to the public over these last five years.

The Jake of old played the game when he was in his twenties, but he also rebelled. He was a man very much living his life in public (e.g., parties, special events, social causes, restaurants, coffee shops, dog parks, gyms, medical center appointments, shopping, cycling, playing sports, fauxmance escapades, etc.), but still teasing out clues about the true love of his life. He would pepper interviews with double entendre exchanges, wear personally expressive attire and jewelry/accessories, and in 2005-06 even tip-toed around the idea of actually coming out. Back then Jake made sure to be openly seen with Austin Nichols on innumerable occasions, visibly living in a glass closet for all to see. All the viewer had to do was just look a little deeper.

Enter WME in 2012 and it is easy to see the noticeable transformation into the brooding, bearded, reclusive curmudgeon that Jake still projects today. No more beating around the bush with clever magazine titles like "The Two Jakes." Just a frozen-in-time man suddenly unconcerned about grooming or acknowledging his love for cashmere socks and antique tea sets. Continuously wearing work "uniforms"of khaki green pants, bland shirts/hoodies of shadeless black, "spiced up" by somber grays. Shoes scuffed up, dimples hidden by unkempt beards, once neatly stylized hair covered by snapbacks and knitted caps to hide the point in time when the pics were actually taken for later damage control distribution.

The public is being played right now. And that public includes Ryan Reynolds ... These two men have been told to put on a show. To sing and dance, giggle, exchange recipes, and pretend-kiss for many reasons, least of which is to bury Jake's real husband and family. And the man he truly is. Hiding in plain sight, Ryan can ramp up the gay because his public choices project a "decent" home life with a "wife" and "children." Jake, on the other hand, having chosen a more unchartered path apparently is still not confident enough to navigate his choices with more dignity or integrity. So everyone felt mobilized and angry at the same time. And it was all expressed at the Women's March with a kind of unity I've never seen before. I think it's possible that the overwhelming and engaging resistance to Trump's terrifying presidency could be a triumph for democracy. ReplyDeleteIt was announced this morning that Okja, a new monster movie from Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-Ho, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as something unexplained, will premiere at Cannes next month. This has no bearing on any of our lives, as the film will also be available on Netflix like three weeks later, but I have to bring it up in adherence with the code of the Jake Gyllenhaal newsletter: all the Jake Gyllenhaal news, no fluff, and if you can't adhere to both rules at least adhere to the first one.

Whoever transcribed the interview spelled Annaleigh Ashford's name wrong. Maybe they did it on purpose to emphasize Maggie's point! It was said on the original Waiting for Toothy blog that Jake and Austin had met at the auditions for The Day After Tomorrow, a movie Jake would go on to star in as "Sam Hall" and Austin winning the role as "J.D.". The character of "J.D." was to be a minor character, but at some point, this changed and Austin found himself with more lines and screen time.
With auditions occurring in May 2002 and filming for The Day After Tomorrow not beginning until November, it is apparent that during the time in between, Jake and Austin's relationship and mutual attraction had reached far beyond the casual interest stage. Austin showing up in New York City at Club Lotus with Jake on June 26, 2002 is evidence of the bond they were already forging.
If you have a copy of the movie, be sure to check out the time period when Sam, Laura, J.D. and Brian escape to J.D.'s family apartment and watch for this moment, when you can see Austin's wrist subtly bend outward to touch Jake in this scene (LMAO!!!!!!!!!)

Following are all of Jake's medical/doctor building visits from 2007 through 2015. Remember, Jake didn't make his bombastic and official "move" to New York City until 2012, which is why you will notice the publicly documented appearances taper off. But until that time, he was a California boy and as is the Jake-way, these visits were accompanied with plenty of photos. Also, keep in mind that Baby Tile #1 was born on October 17, 2007.

From 2007 through December 2015, this is what Jake did, while Austin was working regularly on One Tree Hill as the character, Julian Baker. These visits to medical buildings and offices took place in Los Angeles; they did not carry over into New York City beginning in 2012, when Jake "moved" to the Big Apple. There are only four visits in 2012, three in 2013, and none in 2014. But in 2015? Notice there was an out-of-the-blue flurry of medical building visits in October and November.
But no visits since that time, most likely because Jake and Austin are taking a breather, I mean finished having children.

But at that time, it just really wasn't registering yet. I know that I notice there were several years where Jake went two days in a row. That's kind of unusual, isn't it? There is a strong possibility that Jake & Austin had twins for the second go around and if that was the case, perhaps it was easier to take one or two in one day, and then the third one on the second day.

Forget Matt and Lance, Jake Gyllenhaal has a new buddy.
Jake was spotted in San Diego last week, visiting the set of HBO's pilot "John from Cincinnati," where his pal Austin Nichols plays the lead. Gyllenhaal arrived and was immediately escorted to Nichols' trailer, where they spent most of the day. Austin left the trailer only to grab some grub for the two from catering tables. This photo shows the best friends at a Lakers game in 2006.
Then, this past Saturday, TMZ spies spotted Jake and Austin in Los Angeles, having a quiet dinner at Jar restaurant. The two eluded having their pic taken by paparazzi when they escaped through the kitchen's backdoor. Reese Witherspoon, who has been romantically linked with Jake, was not present.
This is not the first we've seen of Jake and Austin -- their friendship goes back to the 2004 filming of "The Day After Tomorrow." Unlike the trio of Jake, Matt and Lance, this duo appears to be a lasting friendship.

In the pictures of Jake leaving/arriving at the medical building dated September 4, one small detail is nearly easy to miss. Of course, with Mr. G looking quite fetching, important details can easily and carelessly become casualties.
The size of the paper in Jake's hand looks quite similar to that of an ultrasound. In addition, this photo series was taken in what would be the 8th month. If a third trimester sonogram is taken, size, position and movement are checked, as well as for any possible complications.

On June 8, 2008, Jake was papped exiting a special screening at a studio in Los Angeles. His agent Kim Hodgert, "Brothers" director Jim Sheridan, Gyllenhaal matriarch Naomi Foner, and former beard, Reese Witherspoon were all present and part of the departing procession. We can only assess that perhaps this was a private showing of Jake's movie, "Brothers", which he had filmed earlier in the year.
We're here to look at....Jake's sweatshirt. And what is that on his shoulder?
Let's fast forward a year until we are back at the Beverly Hills medical building on September 2, 2009, where Jake is seen leaving by himself. He's dressed a bit casually, sporting some nifty light grey shorts, familiar brown flip flops, and linen-like, denim shirt. Bit of a suntan. And looks like a bit of another stain alert.
Who sees a baby's footprint in a pair of shorts? Or, a drool stain on the shoulder sleeve of a soft knit sweatshirt?

Prior to leaving for overseas and work on the movie Prince of Persia, Jake was seen frequently jogging with a personal trainer in southern California. The filming schedule of the Disney movie would take him to Morocco, but also include "down time" with Reese Witherspoon and her children in Paris, France, Spain and London, of which the "R & R" was well documented by a plethura of pictures.
Now a funny thing happened on the way to watching Jake's comings and goings. In 2010, a poster on the Waiting for Toothy 2 blog, long after the photos had been taken, suddenly discovered that there was a woman in these July 11, 2008 pictures of Jake, Reese, and her children Ava and Deacon, who looked awfully similar to the blond, "chauffer" woman in the 2007 and 2008 photos.
There was once video of this walkabout (by the pap agency x17) and in the film, you can see Jake and Reese walking side by side behind this blond woman who was carrying a small baby and stroller. The stroller is bedecked in everything looking brand-spanking new and blue. This video is no longer available anywhere online. But this wonderful Waiting for Toothy2 blog regular had preserved picture comparisons and a string of screen caps from the video during a hot topic of conversation on the unforgettable evening in late January 2010. The highly animated and excited online discussion was highlighted by whether or not Ava Phillips, daughter of Reese and Ryan Philippe, did in fact appear to run towards the woman carrying the baby and begin to reach up and touch the baby's arm.

Well looky there! I do believe that just might be a baby's jacket lying next to RDJ. And a designer one at that because that black fabric contains the cutest Humpty Dumpty pattern ever.
No one could deny that Jake was quite the fashionable gent back then. A man with a keen eye for flair. But, somehow I just don't think the dimensions of the pint-sized stylish accessory spread out on that restaurant booth quite matches Jake's physique, do you? *wink*
Oh, and by the way RDJ did not have his first baby with Susan until 2012, four years later. Still what better way to sneak a baby into a public venue than to have a willing accomplice or two, just in case an awkward word might escape the little ones lips. I wouldn't be surprised, in fact, if a nanny was there that night as well. She probably got up with the baby to go to the restroom and that's when the person took the picture that was sent into OMG. By November, 2008, Baby Tile would have been thirteen months old. The whimsically designed, nursery rhyme themed jacket a perfect fit for a one year toddler.

I was in Georgetown, a trendy Washington, DC area, and i noticed Jake Gyllenhaal driving his girlfriend Reese Witherspoon around in a mini-van.
The other passengers in the van were two kids, don't know if they were hers, and her co-star Paul Rudd which is currently filming in D.C.
Jake rolled down his window to tell me that it was "uncool" to take his picture at a red light.

At a press conference which was held at the New York's Four Seasons Hotel to discuss the movie Brothers, director Jim Sheridan and co-lead Jake Gyllenhaal's exchange unexpectedly brought forth quite an interesting slip. Let's drop in, as the miscue does not require much translation. [Jake speaks of "Tobey", referring to Tobey Maguire who co-stars in Brothers with him.]
SHERIDAN: I didn't say ‘stale.’ I wouldn't say stale. The difficulty with Jake is he's kind of like, you know the way that other actors are really intense and they come on and you're like, 'Oh my God.' Jake is kind of like that but he's got a 360 degree intensity. You never know where he's looking. He's kind of in the scene but he's kind of looking around himself. It takes a bit of getting used to and it took me a few weeks to get used to Jake's approach which is very unique in my experience. He just thinks he's in real life -- and he's up on the screen. Jake is just the same now as on the thing, up with the kid, up with his sister's kid. He keeps joking even when I get serious and all, don't you?
GYLLENHAAL: I think you just described me as a crazy person. 'Jake has no idea of reality'.

June is considered the most popular month for weddings and for Jake Gyllenhaal, it is believed that June 16th just might be the day that he and Austin Nichols tied the knot. For those who remember the five month window of opportunity provided by a Judge in California who struck down California's ban on gay marriage on May 15, 2008, the date seems to be a likely one. Particularly, given Jake's overseas schedule to shoot Prince of Persia, which began immediately after that date and pretty much spanned the rest of the year until Proposition 8 overturned the ruling on November 4th and reinstated the ban on same sex nuptials. The details of this theory are best explored on another post, but for now the context is important to point out.
In June 2009 ... was photographed with his sister and brother-in-law, apparently third wheeling it on a adult family vacation. Adult, because as you can see the Sarsgaard daughter, did not appear in any photographs nor was she mentioned in the articles that appeared at the time. The absence was not so strange when considering that the quick trip from New York to Paris was actually a working excursion, scheduled to promote Maggie's new film, Sherry Baby.
How surprised everyone was when a random mother blogger innocently posted an entry about her family's trip to Princess Diana Memorial Park in Kensington Park, London, England on, of all days, Tuesday, June 16th.
An excerpt from her post:
We hung out at the park with Jake Gyllenhaal today. Erin did you hear me? An Oscar-winning Celebrity. And I don't just have a story. I have PROOF, sistah. Proof. Check it.

The Case of the "Blonde Woman": Gettin' Curiouser and Curiouser - Day 15

When we last left the curious whereabouts of Jake Gyllenhaal's blond personal assistant, we were more than a bit intrigued by a lone picture of a similarly looking woman pushing a baby in a stroller with Jake, Reese and her two children walking nearby. A strip of screen caps furthered captured this Parisian outing, which sent up red flags that this young woman seemed to have traveled overseas with Jake during the filming of Disney's, "Prince of Persia" in 2008.
What we do know is that this picture was taken in Montreal during the same time period that Jake had been known to be filming "Source Code" in March and April, 2010. Here he is visibly not working, but hanging outside a movie theater where "Alice in Wonderland" (which had been released on March 5, 2010 in Canada) was being showcased. Given all that, on this specific day, it was not so much the featured Disney film that brought Jake to that box office kiosk to buy a ticket, but rather one of the anticipated Movie Previews that was scheduled to be shown: "Prince of Persia."
Now look a little closer. What or, rather, who is that directly in front of Jake? Looks like a little brunette head and a little hand. There was much discussion on Oh My Godot over this picture with one anon claiming the child looked too big to be a Baby Tile. Except by this time Jake and Austin were already expanding that family of theirs. Regardless of the age, that is obviously a child that is next to Jake and that is the same woman who was pushing the baby stroller in 2008 in Paris.
Filming in Canada would have provided Jake a more discreet opportunity to likely have his children with him, particularly if he had an "assistant" as well. 2010 was one of the earlier years of Twitter and no doubt, Jake never anticipated someone would be up in the rafters, so to speak, taking pictures.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and her family spent the day together in Brooklyn, NY on Easter Sunday (April 8). The pregnant actress walked with her mom Naomi and daughter Ramona, 5, down the street while husband Peter Sarsgaard (and Jake) was a few steps ahead. Ramona wore a jean jacket, a short top and a skirt which exposed her belly.
