The movie is pretty fantastic, although it does have two or three hammy notes in it, and Rene Russo is just okay. It was the most tense experience I've had in the theater since No Country For Old Men (and Zodiac before that). I was surprised by how great Gyllenhaal was.
I'm not a big fan of his and don't care about his career trajectory or what it "needs", or if Nightcrawler garners him a silly Oscar nomination (who still gives a fuck about that bullshit?). I do, however, have a male friend who had a couple encounters with him (fully clothed, in public) that led him and me to believe the rumors, for what that's worth.

I would be really really surprised if Jake was in California. Actors do not regularly take off when a play is in rehearsal, it's very important to get the play worked out before it opens.
Plays also do really big business over the holiday weeks. This is also a very limited run show, I think it only has about 13 weeks.

A few years ago, David O. Russell, most recently popular for hit films like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle set out to make a movie that kept getting hit with budget and production issues and stopped filming right before the most important scene. The film in question, originally title Nailed (which is more clever than what they later came up with), but is now Accidental Love (see?) is finally seeing the light of day after Millennium Entertainment took the broken pieces and glued it back together and has given us the first look at the film in the trailer below.
Accidental Love, which stars an impressive cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden, Bill Hader, Tracy Morgan, and Catherine Keener, is about a small-town waitress who gets a nail in the head. This causes her to act unpredictably. After attempting a surgery that would remove the nail, the doctors won't operate on her because she has no insurance. This sends her to Washington, DC, where she meets a young and gullible senator and tries to vouch for healthcare, but falls in love with him instead.
The trailer is very oddball and is full of crazy shenanigans that might play to laughs with the audience, but since the film was never actually completed, it'll be interesting to see what Millennium Entertainment has put together to make the movie work. The film opens February 10th and you can check out the fun trailer below.

Cops stopped Nichols just before 3:00 AM after he was seen driving the wrong way down a one-way street in a silver Mercury Mountaineer. Sound familiar? Austin was pulled over, and officers say they smelled alcohol on his breath.

The claims of financing problems were not what was circulating when Nailed was shut down. At the time it was reported that James Caan walked of the movie and refused to return because of constant clashes with David O Russell and that Jake Gyllenhaal was close to doing the same.
David O Russell became so toxic that he probably still would be unemployed to this day if his buddy Mark Wahlberg hadn't insisted that Russell direct The Fighter which Wahlberg was producing and starring in. Paramount did not want David O Russell and only agreed if co-star Christian Bale also signed off on the choice. It seems that since David O Russell is now an in-demand director people in Hollywood think it's OK to rewrite history. Do a search for Nailed and you will find numerous articles that all point to David O Russell as the reason the movie collapsed.

It's not that unusual to have only the leads promote a movie, unless it's a big star who has a shot at an awards nomination for supporting actor. A lot of it is based on contractual obligations, and I think most movies are not going to tie a supporting actor to a promotional schedule, in part because they aren't paid the big bucks.

Q: I’ve spoken with Jake Gyllehaal about the movie and he sung the praises of the dialogue in this film. It was really hard for him to go on to something else after having the ability to deliver these kind of lines.
Dan Gilroy: Well, that’s incredible. Jake read the part and fell in love with it and immersed himself to the point where those words became burned into his head. I was doing an interview with him the other day. We shot (the film) a year ago and I don’t think there’s really a page in the script that he can’t recite verbatim still, which shows his level of commitment of Jake Gyllenhaal. I think what you’re seeing up on screen is a door to one of the finest actors alive today, and I mean that as objectively as possible. He has a process that is very unique and he’s fearless. He’s not afraid to try something and have it fail. The beginning of that process is an incredibly disciplined, rogue learning of the script. He didn’t change a word of the script and he was so respectful of it that I was respectful of the process of what he wanted to explore. Part of that exploration was, “I’m going to lose 30 pounds for this part.” If you look at it now it makes total sense, but as the weight’s coming off and he’s disappearing and this new Jake Gyllenhaal is appearing, it was a little scary. You have to go with it. These are choices that Jake has made and I’m supporting because I believe they were creatively right and I believe that Jake’s instincts were right.

Those 2 guys made the decision that Jake was going to be the big breadwinner and that's why Jake is churning out film after film. Jake wanted to be around for all the births of their kids and since he loves babies so much, that is why he did not work while those kids were being born.
