Did people hear about Russo's BAFTA nomination? I don't get it. Nightcrawler is being shoved down everyone's throat. It's an average, really mediocre film and Jake probably took the role so he could ham it up. Which he does throughout.
If ever there was an example of how mergers and acquisitions and the elimination of competition has impacted the entertainment industry this is it. The so-called buzz on Jake is a joke. But, some pretty big power brokers must be behind all this. I realize awards are always subjective, but this goes beyond a difference of opinion. I really feel like I'm living in an alternative universe.
This makes me think even more that Jake is being rewarded for his public removal of Austin from his life. For his pathetic bearding. Closeting his kids, maybe for a lifetime. He should be ashamed of himself. But, I know he won't be. He's too interested in the fame, the easy lifestyle and the money.

The neighbors next door are completely out of the water with this live performance in front of an actual accountable audience genre called the theater. The Samuel J. Friedman theater has a capacity of 622 people. Even if the show wasn't sold out, that's still hundreds of people who saw performances of Constellations Jan. 1 and 2. Many presumably going because it is a star vehicle. So why has there not been one incident of a disappointed audience member expecting to see Jake and seeing his understudy instead? And no account of this understudies first performance of the play...anywhere? There are websites like BroadwayWorld.com and All That Chat that live for such news...nothing. It is the Production Stage Managers job to publish a show report after every performance containing info on who was in the show, who was out, who were the replacements, accidents and injuries, audience reaction, what famous people came backstage after the show etc. The reports are distributed to nearly a hundred people associated with the production, from producers, directors, writers, designers, agents, all their assistants and on and on. So the REALITY is that there is written and published documentation in existence that shows whether Jake has missed performances or not. In my experience, a show in previews is rehearsed during the day, performed at night except on two show days. It is still a work in development, not to be frozen until a few days prior to critics attending. No director, producer or self-respecting actor would not use every bit of this time to perfect their work. But remember, for the people next door, Jake did skip town for a bite to eat. IMO, what makes them so morbidly fascinating, is their complete lack of real-world-understanding...and of course their unbelievable egos.

I would be really really surprised if Jake was in California. Actors do not regularly take off when a play is in rehearsal, it's very important to get the play worked out before it opens.
Plays also do really big business over the holiday weeks. This is also a very limited run show, I think it only has about 13 weeks.

I've always believed Jake and Austin were married, but given Jake's behavior lately and how Austin has be transformed from the gay boyfriend into Mr. Heterosexual All American male, I would not be surprised if one of them has a fake engagement soon. No wedding, but definitely something that looks permanent. I predict that will be the next move of one of these guys. You don't get the kind of award recognition that Jake's been given without "cooperating" in a bigger, original way. For me, that would be an engagement. If I had to guess, I would say Austin because he's not that famous and PR could get away with a soft roll out of the idea. Jake's a much bigger celebrity so I doubt they would go in that direction. Compared to Birdman, Selma, Memphis, Boyhood, or the The Theory of Everything, Nightcrawler is a third, maybe fourth rate contender. I'm sorry if that hurts Jake fans, but it's true. Comeback performance? From what? Having kids? He's had films released every year since his career started. There's been no comeback.

They are both fluent in the awkward body language of nerds in love, and in the crossed signals of emotional ambivalence. But they use contrasting and complementary physical vocabularies to balance, gracefully and clumsily, shifts in power and longing, aggression and retreat.
Mr. Gyllenhaal’s Roland, a magnificent work of understatement, is the more naturally inhibited. His default stance is a hunch, with his hands buried in his pockets, and there’s a valiance in his eternal attempts to break through that posture.
Ms. Wilson is more expansive of gesture; you suspect that her Marianne sees her intellectuality as a social handicap, and she overcompensates by being louder and funnier than she needs to be. This makes her all the more moving whenever words start to fail her.
And though “Constellations” is a supremely articulate play, it knows that words inevitably fail, that they are never enough to bind two people together forever. Time, it turns out, is a more effective breaker of hearts than human beings, with all their conflicted intentions, can ever be. This story of parallel universes is universal in every sense of the word.
