Give me a break!

Dear Ted:
Are you ready to concede defeat on Jake yet? Or do you wish to add further embarrassment to yourself? Hello! has a story about Reese and Jake cohabitating. Everyone's lying though, right? Everyone but you. For a "showmance" they sure spend a lot of time together out of the public view. Get a clue, buddy, and stop spreading lies about people.

Dear Gyllenblind:
Hello!, the record of who's really diddling whom in this town? Give me a break.

Dear Ted:
Here's my take on gay Hollywood: If only one gay A-list couple would come out and have a public affair, have a row in public, break up, get back together, go furniture shopping in public, get married, adopt a cute baby and get a divorce—i.e. act like a straight Hollywood couple—they would sell just as many magazines. If Hollywood execs saw that gay people can bring in money, they wouldn't be afraid of casting them.

Dear One Sex Fits All:
Wish it were that simple. T.R. Knight and his boy toy are happy to be seen hand in hand for all the paps, but do ya see him scoring any leading man movie roles?

Dear Ted:
If Toothy Tile and Public Thrust want to be caught so badly, why don't they just come out already?

Dear Dental Work:
If it's voluntary, then they can't deny anything if they change their minds.

Dear Ted:
I don't get it. So, Jake G. is looking for a new, preferably female, assistant. Why does that make him picky and/or cantankerous? And to mention him in the same breath as Naomi Campbell—that's stretching it just a teensy bit, don't you think?

Dear Ass-istant:
Maybe you should apply for the Gyllen-gig and get back to us. Would make a fabulous item, trust.

Public Thrust has to be Zac Efron. His faux-mance with Vanessa Hudgens is quite laughable! Am I right?

My guess for Public Thrust —Shia LaBeouf? And also, if these same-sex-loving celebs are making their personal choices so public, why aren't y'all allowed to talk about it? Look at all the other celebs who have come out, and they're still fabulous!

    Dear Out and About:
Yeah, fabulous and broke. Shia LaBabe's smoking is about as scandalous as this guy gets (for now)—but S.B. is sorta the same type as Pub Thrust. And some celebs don't want to make their sexuality the numero uno part of their persona everybody sees.

  6. I still having a hard time believing that Reeke has been in London for over two weeks, with her kids, and there isn't not one pap pic. Especially since there have been pics of Ryan w/Abbie Cornish. Reese's head must be exploding. English paps are even more aggressive that US paps. Something doesn't add up.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Reeke are just plain old boring. If they've really been in London together then evidently nobody cares. They probably just blend in like any average soccer mom and dad. Whatever Jake had that got him noticed in the past has disappeared.

  8. If PT ain't Zac or Shia, who could it be? They are the top two teen-throbs with movie careers.

  10. Reeke are not in London. If they were, do you think they'd miss a huge photo op like that?! lol

Wonder where Jake is? Nesting with his GG I bet :)

  11. They are in London, the kids are not with Ryan and Reese has not been spotted over here since last Saturday, where is she? There is always pap pics of her walking around solo doing errands.

They are not missing anything IMO, if that Hello story is true, then there is plenty of time for photo ops over there, he isn't scheduled to leave for Morocco. They aren't filming in the UK now they will after the Morocco shoot but they are probably doing pre-production stuff. You will see pics soon I bet.

If you are familiar with Notting Hill you must know that along with the shops and large markets where people can be seen and papped, there is also very quiet residential areas with small quiet streets and gardens, plenty of privacy. The studio where he will be filming is 35 min. from Notting Hill.

And although they were most likely no-shows at the Mandela party, I don't dismiis the sightings from that myspace or this, I think some Real estate agent tipped off Hello.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, but isn't the whole purpose of phonyspoon supposed to be them getting maxium PR? Why would Reese and kids be there and then avoid paps? Especially since Reese seems to harbor major hate against Ryan (timing her Mexico lovefest same time as Ryan's Stoploss debut). Besides, why would she drag her kids to London for weeks? They'd have nothing to do. Their on summer vacation, their friends, pool, beach and father are in LA. The kids don't know anyone in London, there's no beach and doubtful they have a pool. That's awfully selfish of Reese to do that to her kids if she's really there for 2 months.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If Jake is working in London, then would not the studio have provided him a house? Why would Reese have to rent or buy a place? Puzzling, unless she is there because Ryan plans to take the kids around Europe this summer, and she wants to be close.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It is doubtful that anyone would describe Reese as "unselfish". After all, she is being paid by Avon to do charity work.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 9:38: Ryan will be visiting for the summer in the UK he has a flat there and he spent time there last summer,so it's two-fold. The studio isn't obligated to find a place for Jake + Reese and the kids, why should they? Reese and the kids have nothing to do with Pop.

PS: How do you know who Reese and the kids know in London or Jake for that matter?

  18. Hometown to Honor Heath Ledger with Theater

Perth, Australia, is getting a new landmark: a $87 million, 575-seat auditorium named for a native son, the Heath Ledger Theatre.

Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said at a dedication ceremony Tuesday that the name was appropriate, given how supportive the late actor had always been for fellow young performers, the Associated Press reports.

"Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that's what made him successful," Carpenter said. "I think what we're doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be."

Also in attendance: Heath's father, Kim Ledger, who considered the honor to his son a pleasant surprise.

"He was such a giver to the arts right across the board. I really feel that there's not a lot of things he'd put his name to, but he'd put his name to that," said the elder Ledger, who also said he and other family members were planning to attend this month's New York premiere of The Dark Knight – the Batman adventure in which Heath plays the Joker and is receiving posthumous Oscar buzz.

Kim Ledger also said that the praise being heaped upon Heath's performance is making his family's private grieving all the more difficult. "It's just been a little more public, and the films make it a little more public, as well," he said. "It's been a little bit hard, but we've always been extremely proud of his work and that hasn't changed."

  20. From BlackBook magazine:

Michelle Williams AWOL from TDK Premiere

As the frenzy towards the July 14 New York City premiere of The Dark Knight continues to build (oh how I wish I could attend), Heath Ledger’s performance, and its posthumous status, are predictably overshadowing the film itself (although reviews have been rave). Will the premier proceedings pay tribute to the late actor, will his ex-fiancĂ©e Michelle Williams attend, and what of Ledger's family's attendance? For the record, Williams was never planning to attend, the premiere will not serve as a tribute, and Ledger's family aren't confirmed as guests. Williams’ rep says that the premiere "was never on her calendar and she’s not in the movie. This isn’t a press event for her. She’s not going, there is no reason.” Jake Gyllenhaal, however, will attend his former onscreen lover’s premiere as a guest of sister Maggie , who has a role in the film as Bruce Wayne’s love interest.

  27. Don't hold your breath.

That's what I'm thinking, see this "Jake Gyllenhaal, however, will attend his former onscreen lover’s premiere as a guest of sister Maggie" doesn't go well at all with the image he's working so hard to project.

    ReplyDelete
  28. He really should go--Maggie went to all the major BBM premieres. I remember the photo of her sitting behind Heath, Jake and Ang Lee at one of the early premieres. She has been there for him; he should be a man for once and be there for her.

But I won't hold my breath.

    ReplyDelete
  29. When was the last time Jake went to one of Maggies premieres? Mona Lisa Smiles? And that was because Kiki was in it.

True Maggie really hasn't had any major movies, mostly small indie stuff that prolly had screenings, I think he did attend Secretary but that was before Mona Lisa Smile.

How many times in the last few years that Jake's name came up on a list for a party or premiere and he was a no show and this was before Reese.

Even in '06 when he won the MTV award and did the Espys he avoided the Red Carpet. Yes he did the red carpet for the Baftas, the AA and of course Toronto and Cannes in '07 so he does them when he's in the mood I guess I guess he won't be in the mood this time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He also attended the Trust the Man premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "I guess he won't be in the mood this time."

Oh I'm sure he won't be since going to the premiere would mean being asked questions about Heath from who he has been going out of his way to distance himself.
I wouldn't be in the mood either if I were him. (sarcasm)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Why should Michelle attend? She is Heath's ex! Before he died he was supposedly dating Gemma Ward. Michelle herself supposedly put her supposed afffair with Ryan Gosling on hold because her daughter's dad died. It'll be interesting to see if Michelle and Ryan get together when they start shooing their new movie.

    ReplyDelete
  33. There's no way to know what might have happened had Heath lived. She certainly had a strong connection with him and not only because they have a child together. Being in his life, someone of his stature, it would be hard to "go on with the show" as if nothing happened and forget him. If she wants to and is up to it by all means, she should attend.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Reeke attending TDK premiere would be TomKat @ Batman Begins premiere all over again. No thanks!

Wow you're really naive! Reeke would mean nothing to TDK premiere. All the focus will be on Heath, his performance, his family and friends. Nobody will give a rat’s ass about Reeke except the rags their PR sell stories to.

  38. Sorry 2:35, I thought you meant Reese not Michelle.

  39. The impression I am getting, is absolutely nothing, nothing, will take the focus off Heath. If Jake and Michelle go, it is in tribute that Heath deserves, and will only add to it. There is nothing possible that could take the focus off the film, or Heath, except force majeure.

  41. Daughter Matilda Was Heath's Focus on Dark Knight Set

Heath Ledger's maniacal twist on the Joker in The Dark Knight in no way resembled his true character off set – that of a proud father to his 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, his costars say.

"Because he died people want a dark story [that] he was so obsessed with the character, he was so contaminated by the Joker and he couldn't sleep and all of that stuff," said costar Gary Oldman, who plays Lt. Jim Gordon in the film, adding that wasn't the case.

"In between takes he would sit on the curbside and smoke a cigarette and laugh and talk about his daughter Matilda," added Oldman Sunday at the press day for the film. "I thought he was just a beautiful kid. I thought he was just wonderful. I had a real affection for him.

Ledger, who died in January, gushed about his daughter with actress Michelle Williams to costars on set.

"Heath showed me pictures of [Matilda] ... [he] would come in and say she did this and she did that," recalled Aaron Eckhart, who plays District Attorney Harvey Dent in the sequel out July 18. But Ledger's other love on set was for his character, the Joker. Eckhart added: "He really created his look. That character — Heath loved so much. He really cared about the Joker."

Director Christopher Nolan said he needed an actor who would be "truly fearless" for the role and Ledger was up for the challenge. "[For] those who knew him and those who had the privilege of working with him, it's pretty amazing the disparity between the person he was and the monster that he created for us," Nolan said. "To see that being created from this very gentle person is a real testament to his skill as an actor."

  44. Heath Ledger’s Interview About Being The Joker

2008 started off with a tragedy in the movie world with the death of Heath Ledger. One of the most promising Hollywood stars of his generation, his death came just a couple of years after his Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain. He died part way through filming the Terry Gilliam movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which is being completed by other actors in a tribute to the star. His biggest role to date was as The Joker in the upcoming ‘Batman’ movie The Dark Knight, which he talked about in this interview in 2007 on location in Chicago.

Heath: I just got off a plane. I was picked up at 4am from my house this morning in LA. It’s okay.

Q: Are you lucid enough to tell all?
Heath:(laughs) You caught me at a good moment.

Q: Everyone said that you were fearless taking on this role, is that really true?
Heath: I definitely feared it. Anything that fears me, I guess, excites me at the same time and so I don’t know if I was fearless, but I certainly had to put on a brave face and believe that I had something up my sleeve and something that was different.

Q: Did you watch any of the Jack Nicholson stuff?
Heath: Oh yeah. (laughs) I mean, not after I got the role, but I’ve seen it many times before, I was a huge fan of it and you having seen Chris’s first film, I knew that there’s a big difference between a Chris Nolan film and a Tim Burton film and so therefore there was enough room for a fresh portrayal and so I’ve kind of steered away from what Jack did (laughs) hopefully.

    Q: In what way?
Heath: I don’t know. I’m not at liberty to say.

Q: How did you build your character? Did you start with the comic books or the movies or the TV series?
Heath: A bit of both. Like I sat around a hotel room in London, for about a month and I just locked myself away and formed a little diary and experimented with voices and I’ll answer your question (laughs), he’s you know I ended up making him within the realm of a psychopath kind of like zero empathy or very little to no conscience towards his acts which is fun because there’s no real limits on their boundaries to what he would say or how he would say something or what he would do. So, yeah that, I don’t know it’s always a very personal process in terms of how you land in your characters shoes, so to speak, It’s a combination of reading all the comic books I could and the script, and then just really closing my eyes and meditating on it. Chris and I very much see eye to eye on how the character should be played, and that was evident from the first kind of meeting we had on the project. We both had identical images in our minds and so I went away, found it, came back.

Q: Do we see the man behind The Joker?
Heath: I don’t know. (laughs) I really don’t know what to say, I feel like I’ll be assassinated if I tell you something wrong…

Q: We know there’s a prologue, but we don’t know exactly what is in that
Heath: OK, I’m really not sure what I’m allowed to say (laughs)

Q: Again, with that process of getting into The Joker, is the idea that he may have once been a normal person?
Heath: Yeah, I think most of the villains in kind of the Chris Nolan style of Batman movies are normal people, once were normal people. I definitely kind of came to my own conclusions to his background and but one thing, and I don’t know whether I’d be putting my foot in my mouth by giving you that, I guess it’s my secret too at this point so I don’t know. This is the first time I’d had to speak about it and no ones really prepped me and (laughs) on what I can say or not.

Q: Has your daughter seen you as The Joker?
Heath: No, no. I think she’s seen like an image of it but…

    Q: Was she scared?
Heath: She just kind of frowned at it you know. (laughs). I don’t think she connected me to it yeah.

Q: So does that really help with the character? You got a costume in there as well and the whole feel, look…
Heath: Yeah, yeah, it’s definitely the icing on the cake toward all the research that you do prior to shooting. There’s something about the metaphor to work behind a mask and from within a mask always gives you the license to do whatever you want or the freedom, free of feeling like you’re being judged or viewed and so I’m literally wearing a mask now which empowers me twice as much to kind of feel free and feel unrestrained here and it’s pretty exciting

Q: How do you get into the mindset of evil?
Heath: I think we all have it in us, you know. I don’t know, once again, it’s kind of you know, like for awhile there I was thinking that sometimes I’ll connect some exterior thoughts, I’m kind of eating raw meat and what that does to your mouth and to your eyes and simple little visuals like that that can kind of twist your mind a little bit and it feels evil when it’s not necessarily an evil thought, but it may look and come across as evil. I don’t know, I guess just the rest is trusting like your research and trusting all the definitions of these words, a psychopath and you know, and then just running with it. You know? I don’t know, I’m trying not to give it too much thought at this point and…

Q: Nicholson said the first time he saw himself as The Joker he forgot his lines. Was there a moment you looked at your performance and felt a certain way?
Heath: I haven’t looked at it yet. I’ve heard it, in the trailer and it kinda creeped me out a little bit but I haven’t seen it yet.

Q: Why? Why haven’t you seen it?
Heath: I just, I don’t know where I’d see it. We don’t have playback, I don’t want to see playback, and I just, I haven’t seen, I don’t know if you’d, they’ve put together a trailer of some sort for…

Q: You never see dailies of the film?
Heath: No. I did. I did. I used to. But now I just find it’s a waste of time. (laughs) I’d rather go home, go to sleep (laughs)…it’s too late

Q: Is that because you found you were readjusting your performance when you were doing that?
Heath: Sometimes, yeah, sometimes. I mean, just out of insecurities I used to do it, and schooling, self tutored.

    Q: Yeah?
Heath: Yeah, not hard. He’s a total gentleman about it. He kind of tapped me on the shoulder and it’s been physical, but I enjoy that. I get battered and bruised, but I don’t know, I like feeling pain too, it’s kind of acting, in a way.

Q: And you found a way to walk etc?
Heath: Definitely, I found an interesting kind of posture of sort, which I felt went with his aggressive nature and a walk and it’s hard to describe I guess, it’s a little hunched.

Q: Is this a role you had to go to the gym much?
Heath: No. (laughs) Thank God, yeah.

    Q: So that’s good.
    Heath: Yeah. (laughs)

Q: Can you talk about your scenes with Christian. You’re the nemesis you know, the iconic Batman nemesis there must be some electricity?
Heath: Well, firstly, it’s an honor to work with Christian. I mean the cast in general is pretty outstanding, I mean, every single one of these people I’ve wanted to work with, and have inspired me at some point and so it’s ridiculous, the cast and my first scene was with Gary Oldman, which was mind blowing. Then after he leaves the interrogation room, Batman arrives (laughs), you know? And suddenly, I realized what movie I was in (laughs) and it’s quite fun actually because you know I was supposed to, you know, nothing really gets under my skin, including Batman, and it’s quite easy, as an actor, because it’s kind of funny, seeing someone dressed up in a bat suit, it was easy to laugh at it but he’s incredibly professional and incredibly focused and you know, one of the loveliest guys I’ve ever worked with and a brilliant actor and, even down to Batman like how serious he takes it, and how he transforms and his voice shifts and aggressive he gets, it’s really inspiring stuff.

Q: So the concept is that Batman uses fear, and that Joker has no fear of Batman – it’s that kind of relationship?
Heath: Yeah. They can’t really live without each other. It’s that kind of relationship. You know? Like they have no real purpose in life without each other. So they don’t really want each other dead.

Q: And how about working with Maggie Gyllenhaal, because obviously you’ve worked with her brother before and did you know her before?
Heath: Yeah. Yeah I did. Yeah, that’s been great too. I stuck a knife (laughs) into her and… no, it’s been a lot of fun and you know, she’s also a Brooklynite and so we’ve just been kinda, trading a lot of family stories and yeah, it’s been fun.

Q: Could you describe what sets Chris Nolan apart from other directors?
Heath: He drinks a lot more tea than I’ve seen another director drink (laughs). That definitely sets him apart. He’s so young, but seems so old and he’s just incredibly mature and organized and relaxed on set, and he’s definitely in his world. He has a wonderful relationship with his DP, Wally, and those two kind of seem to have the entire world mapped out, and we just kind of follow in their path. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like directing a movie this size, but he manages to kind of keep a clear head and he’s super organized, he actually just, surprisingly enough, like as organized as he is, he really just shoots as he goes too, like he makes a lot of it up, as he goes and he’s very flexible in that way.

Q: Since he’s also the co-writer is he also involved in any fine-tuning of Joker’s lines…
Heath: Me? No, not really. No he was all there, he was all on page. They did a really good job.

Q: Everybody says how dark the film is but is there any moment of just kind of twisted fun that The Joker brings to the table?
Heath: Yeah, yeah, all the time. There’s nothing consistent about him at all, so he’s not consistently dark or consistently fun, or funny, just going up and down the whole time.

Q: You had fun in terms of playing it?
Heath: Yeah, it’s the most fun I’ve had, playing a role.

Q: This is very different than your character in Brokeback Mountain who is so restrained?
Heath: Yeah, absolutely, I’m really surprised Chris knew that I or thought or believed that I had something in me like this and I don’t know how he came to ask me to do it. But yeah it is. It’s definitely the most fun I’ve had and the most freedom I’ve had and the work schedule’s great (laughs), I work two days and have three weeks off (laughs) It’s like that for six months, so went surfing a lot.

Q: But you do some work?!
Heath: Yeah, yeah, I do. It’s just a long schedule, and there’s a lot of action sequences, so action sequences take three weeks to a month sometimes to shoot.

Q: Any injuries or hairy moments?
Heath: No but I let Christian, he went and stood up on the Sears Tower himself, they took him right up to the very top and he took his feet right to the edge. And they put him on a thin wire and he just leaned off the tower like this (demonstrating) which I thought was a pretty cool story. There’s been a lot of car chases and there was an Imax camera that got busted up, got jammed between a truck and a car and they just you know, replaced it (laughs), kept on shooting, as you do.

Q: Is this the most expensive movie you’ve ever made?
    Heath: Yeah, definitely.

Q: Does that have an influence on your performance? It’s different from Brokeback Mountain?
Heath: Yeah, it’s completely different. It doesn’t really change that space of time between action and cut that’s always the same no matter what’s around you, it’s the same place you live in. But yeah it’s a different ballgame, it’s quite amazing, it’s quite jaw dropping, yeah. It’s fun. It’s been a lot of fun watching it.

Q: Besides being a masked guy, what does he have? a car? Something special?
Heath: The Jokermobile? (laughs) Rollerblades, yeah (laughs), that would be funny. No he doesn’t have a set of wheels - he just steals whatever’s around.

Q: He has that image of someone who has that flower that squirts acid, that sort of thing?
Heath: No, not a lot of gimmicks.

Q: Just you and a knife?
    Heath: He’s just bloody, yeah.

    Q: It’s a gory one?
Heath: I mean it’s, you know, it’s a PG-13 isn’t it? I think, so not really, you know, I think it suggests more gore, I remember going into this thinking it was PG-13 but I wanted to present an X rated performance, if I could. So it’s kind of what I’ve been going for and the power of suggestion. It is pretty dark, but there’s not a lot of gore.

Q: Have you run into Jack Nicholson since you go the part?
Heath: I wish. (laughs) I’ve never run into him but I’d like to. Not literally.

  46. Commenter on DC forum who does makeup says the idea for The Jokers makeup was Heath's. Not the prosthetics that created the underlying scars, but the mascara, white powder and lipstick. Apparently Heath came to the meeting to discuss his look armed with items he purchased at a make- up counter and they loved it. A very creative man.

  47. As the Joker in the new "Batman" movie, have you tried on the mask yet?
Metaphorically, yes. I've been bouncing around like a lunatic for four months. I definitely have a different take on him, but I've yet to do a proper makeup run. It's on the agenda.

Do you walk around the house all day practicing your laugh?
    I'd be lying if I said I haven't been.

  48. Jake G. Seeks Helping Hand

We’ve got some good news and some bad news.

We’ll give you the good news first: Jake Gyllenhaal is in the market for an assistant. Like, totally a wet dream come true, right? Well, wrong. At least for most of you. You see, rather than hiring on merit alone, the Brokeback Mountain actor has a bit of queer requirement: ladies only.

    Wait, isn’t that reverse sexism?!

And isn’t it fascinating, P.T.’s peeps, who supposedly have his best interests in mind, are doing their best to steer Mr. Thrust away from any gay projects that come dancing his way (‘cause, let’s face it, the guy looks as queer as my hair), all the while Public-babe is hitting some H-town parties that don’t exactly cater to the beer-and-football type o’ guys.

More specifically? Let’s just say that while Thrust’s managers and such are doing their best to keep their star out of anything remotely Brokeback Mountain-esque, P.T.’s performing, quite impressively, I must say, at some H'wood dos where doing each other is the point of the gathering. Orgies, gay ones—in case you’re having trouble reading my totally homo cryptospeak."

  51. Gossip Girl Actor Wants to Be Respected For His 'Acting'

Call the wahmbulance! Chace Crawford thinks he's being used for his good looks.

The Gossip Girl actor often questions the show runners when they want him to appear shirtless, mostly because he wants to preserve the integrity of his acting. He tells the magazine: "There was an episode where we were crashed out on the sofa after a big night out and they wanted me to wake up in my boxers, so I argued with them about it. I mean, first of all, who gets wasted with their buddy, and smokes weed and then strips down to their boxers before they pass out on the couch?! No one does that. Why am I naked on my buddy's couch? It was weird so I fought it." Some people probably do that! Plus, Chace, really? Don't be that way. We all know why you're on the show.

  52. Brokeback Mountain

This movie was one of those movies, I didn’t want to watch but was curious how it might be. Being gay is very taboo where I come from, just talking about it can get you in trouble. Enough to become a social outcast. I always wonder how a guy can be attracted to another guy. Walking on a street I find 9 in 10 girls pretty in some way or the other. But I cant seem to find 1 in a 1,000,000,000 men attractive, lol.

This movie has changed my outlook in a way. It does not tell the story of two gay men, rather it tells the story of two people; who’s friendship grew when they were cut out from rest of the world. It tells us love transcends everything. They shared a relationship most of us keep looking for all our lives.

I cant wait to see his latest flick The Dark Knight, the cinematography seems so surreal.

I've never understood this. BBM is one kind of gay love story. It does tell the sory of two gay men. Why do straight people try so hard to compare BBM to straight love stories? To relieve their homophobia? BBM is a queer love story. It tells our story, not yours.

"We’ll give you the good news first: Jake Gyllenhaal is in the market for an assistant. Like, totally a wet dream come true, right? Well, wrong. At least for most of you. You see, rather than hiring on merit alone, the Brokeback Mountain actor has a bit of queer requirement: ladies only."

The real question is why does he need a new female personal assistant now. Did the old one start to pill the beans about this bearding charade?

I think people try to compare to something they can relate to, which is a good thing. At least this person is trying, which this person should get credit for. I think it's unfair to label everyone with the blanket of homophobe. I don't know that is is your story either; it's humanity's story. There was no disclaimer that said straight people were excluded - it was marketed to them. It was like a straight love story, like a Gone with the Wind. I have found that the way all people relate is similar, and that's what we all can relate to, and that's what will bring acceptance and equality, unless you don't want that and like to bitch about it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ^^Sorry, that should read "unless you don't want acceptance and equality, and would prefer to bitch about it, instead of doing something real to correct it."

But make no mistake, BBM is not "your" story. What about the wives and children whose lives were affected as well because of society's intolerance? It's a story for humanity.

  71. In tents: Bravo responds to the brouhaha over their editing of "Brokeback Mountain"

Last week we mentioned that the gayest not-gay network on the dial, Bravo, would be airing the network premiere of Brokeback Mountain immediately following the GLAAD Media Awards, and was advertising the combination like a sort of gay "rock block". This savvy programming and promotional one-two sounded encouraging at the time, and one imagined that if anyone were actually going to watch what is soup-to-nuts a thoroughly adult movie on basic cable, that Bravo might be as good a pick as any to do the ritualistic replacement of F-bombs and trims for time.

But things didn't go as smoothly as expected. It seems that, aside from the obvious cuts for profanity, nudity, and gratuitous use of spit-lube, the network's version of the film cut something that had no reason to be censored: namely, a tender kiss between Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal). Fans of the film were incensed at the cut, with message boards ablaze with comments about the edit. Here are some of the more angered responses over on the IMDB boards:

"I am absolutely disgusted!!! I'd rather they hadn't shown it at all. F*ck BRAVO! They are HYPOCRITES!"

"But this is a LOVE STORY, for chrissakes -- and yet those hamfisted meatheads hacked out the SECOND NIGHT IN THE TENT?? I suppose some moron thought they needed to "protect the children". What BULLSCHITT!!!"

"I'm sure some random 10-year old from Sandusky, Ohio would be more traumatized by watching 5 minutes of The Real Housewives of Orange County than they would by seeing the pup tent scene from BBM."

We didn't catch the televised version ourselves but when readers tipped us off to the brouhaha, we contacted Bravo to find out what the deal was. Here's their response:

"This was an unfortunate mistake. While editing the film for cable broadcast, the kissing scene in question was removed. The scene will appear in all future airings of Brokeback Mountain on Bravo, as it should have been included in its cable premiere."

We can approach this from a few different angles, but I for one am inclined to take their response at face value. Honestly, for them to deliberately remove a kiss (when others were left intact) for the purpose of undermining the gay romance of one of the most universally embraced gay-themed films in history and then to promote the network premiere in association with a gay media event would be suicide.

We'll know for sure if the net is on the level the next time Brokeback airs.

    After Elton

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm so glad After Elton followed up on the editing. :)

  73. Jake definitely needs to man up for PoP. He looks like the Princess of Persia in those pics. He better get married soon.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Just saw the Reese pics. She looks like shit and someone should tell her that wearing hats doesn't make her look cute (like she thinks she does), but like a moron. Guess Jake is really committed to this Reeke thing. Bearding or not, he's choosing to live with her. She could have easily stayed in LA with her kids, why go to London? If Jake is bearding and is willing to take the charade as far as living together or even marrying, then I've really lost all respect for him. If he's really with her (which is hard to believe) then he should get out as fast as he can, cause she's scary.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Got to say reese is looking like a big time flake. Had never paid much time following her but ever since she been hanging with The Princess she has come off as a total ding bat.

    ReplyDelete
  76. She is ugly and weird looking that's for sure. What does he see in her? $$$$?

  79. Ok, just a simple question. Does anyone know for a fact that Jake is filming in London? Or is this all based on.... what?

Reese can be shopping on the moon for all I care. Why is she alone? Hmmm not like Reeke at all.

As for the wedding, yeah like the engagement on her birthday, father's day pics...blah blah whatever, gottta keep them in the news. Crank up the fake news as there's nothing else to report. lol!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  83. Gay video retailer (and porn distributor) TLA is coming under fire for making Heath Ledger's full-frontal in I'm Not There the selling point for the DVD in their catalog. On the one hand, the pickle-shot in question is certainly news to me. On the other, a dead guy's junk is a pretty trashy way to sell a DVD.

    BOYCOTT! They're NOT thinking...

    ReplyDelete
  84. ^^That just ain't right - someone needs to contact them and tell them to remove that line, it's disrespectful.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Some believe that money can justify everything:

"According to no less than Scott Cranin, Managing Editor for TLAVideo.com (and I quote!):

"I fully admit it was tasteless and gross. However my job is not to be tasteful, it's to sell DVDs. That short comment has sold hundreds of DVDs by a gay filmmaker that would not sell otherwise."

    ReplyDelete
  86. Happy Birthday, Tom Cruise!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Somehow, I doubt that I'm Not There wouldn't sell otherwise. Somehow, I think they could highlight other things about it to sell it, such as that it's about Bob Dylan, a story told in an interesting way, the incredible cast. The real question is would is sell enough in his greedy estimation, and the answer is probably never enough.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I can't believe how may posters on other sites are defending Reese's recent photos. "She's natural blah blah and anybody who doesn't agree Reese is gorgeous is just jealous".
The fact is that Reese needs make-up to look good. She's not a natural beauty. At all. She doesn't have a good figure to make up for it either. There are about a million better-looking girls in London.
Now if the trashy tabloids would just drop the pr-approved "blonde beauty Reese Witherspoon".

    ReplyDelete
  89. My feeling is, if Reese is the woman Jake wants, and he thinks she's beautiful, then what anyone writes or says doesn't matter. But I'm just not convinced that's the case and that this isn't a complete made-for-the-public romance, what the public wants, not Jake. I think he thinks someone else is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Now if the trashy tabloids would just drop the pr-approved "blonde beauty Reese Witherspoon".

That's not going to happen - it is their job to insult people's intelligence. lol

    ReplyDelete
  91. I guess Reese's fans are all 12 years old. They think you're jealous if you don't find her beautiful? Jealous of what? Jealous that we don't look like her? That's funny.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Silly fangirls don't use common sense.

    ReplyDelete
  93. There is absolutely no evidence Jake is really in London, just a few, less than credible sightings. Articles about SAG and a possible strike in the LA Times and Variety that have mentioned PoP have said it starts filming the end of July in Morrocco, that PoP like other films didn't want to start earlier in case of a strike. And with a huge production like this, it doesn't seem very likely that at the last minute they changed their mind and moved up filming, it just doesn't work that way on films--people have other commitments, etc. They are probably doing things that don't require the actors--like possibly filming stunts.

But I guess OK! is a more credible source for the fangirls.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I like the "blonde beauty" bit. It shows how idiotic the tabs are. "Jake is so in love with blond beauty Reese and all of HW are wishing they marry and that's she's happy."
Um, yeah.I would say all of HW doesn't really give a rat's ass what they do.

    ReplyDelete
  95. As though the self-centered, egostistical HW players care about anyone but themselves. What's funny about that line though is that HW wishes that "she's happy". I guess they know that he won't be.

Jakey Gyllenhaal is currently in England prepping for his new role in the Prince of Persia, yet another video game turned full length feature that is said to be the next Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for Disney.

As you can see, Jake’s hair has grown a little long. Looks f&cking hot. So hot Reese Witherspoon has joined him in London where they’ve been super low key. Until either one of them has something to promote. Don’t forget, that’s how Reese won her Oscar.

Still… despite their convenient and self serving media plays, what’s between Jake and Reese is very much for reals. Jakey is not gay. But as I always say, gossip is a buffet. You choose homo or hetero.

Zodiac star Jake Gyllenhaal got very excited while training for his role in next summer's blockbuster Prince of Persia: Sands Of Time. Gyllenhaal knew that his role would require some physical activity and other feats of strength, but he was surprised to learn that he was going to ride a horse while holding a sword. Gyllenhaal said that it felt like one of his childhood dreams was coming to life and that he also hopes that some other dreams of his — like hitting a game winning grand slam for Boston Red Sox and going boogie boarding with Abraham Lincoln — come true in the next few years.

  151. ^^^ One of the comments:

"My girlfriend's had that same expression ever since I picked her up at the post office."

    ROFLMAO!

  152. The comments on D-Listed are brutal! My favorite is "Who is teaching him to ride? Carson Kressley???Hands are all wrong. "

Now we see why Jake's people are floating the Namath story again. Yes, the script is old, the project languished for years, the main character is an airhead best suited for an actor used to playing dumb jocks (like Mconnaughey; this role is absolutely beneath Jake), but it does bolster Jake's macho-appeal.

    ReplyDelete
  153. ^^Bullshit, or horseshit is more appropriate. Like anyone would take the majority of those comments seriously. There's probably a handful that have any merit at all, and the rest are throwaway. You and the crew over at D-listed must have missed your calling as riding instructors, I guess. It's training; there's no way to know how the end result is going to look. You sound terribly bitter about something. How do you know all of this, btw?

Lots of scripts have languished, Brokeback did, and look what happened with that. Doesn't mean they aren't good. I don't think the role is beneath Jake, or any of the other well-known actors in it.

Rather mild comment from Defamer, glad to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  154. You really see the sorry-assed side of human nature sometimes on blogs. I hope people pass these idiotic comments by. If you don't like it, don't go to see it. But don't try to fool yourselves or anyone else as to what the reason is. Jake either won't come out, or isn't gay, and you don't like it.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Interesting to see where the lame BBM references and jokes are coming from as well. Ent Lawyer and Defamer have surprised me, let's see, outclassing? I guess is the best word, their fellow blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  156. his horse looks confused. No wonder.

    ReplyDelete
  157. True, but the Namath movie wasn't written by a Pulitzer prize / National Book Award winning author about a topic that still remains taboo in Hollywood. Sports bio-pics about heterosexual jocks are a dime a dozen, and they're made every year. There are ten million reasons for films like BBM to languish for years; there's no reason for a generic sports biopic to languish in this sports obsessed country unless the script is truly mediocre, and I suspect that the Namath bio-pic is (like the Armstrong bio-pic). Jake should stay away from the marginal bio-pics like the plague. It is utterly beneath his talent.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Some of you were the same people who were saying he had no talent. So which is it? You guys should start your own blog - WetBlankets@blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  159. The horse doesn't look confused, Jake looks like he's doing fine, better than I would expect for someone who isn't a regular horserider. This place they are training at trains riders and horses as their business, and someone on Dlisted is going to criticize their technique? Dismissed.

    ReplyDelete
  160. I don't understand what people mean by "looking confused". It's a training session, first of all, and secondly, a horse is living, breathing creature, not a machine, he or she is going to look around, and have to adjust to his or her rider. Each horse is an individual. We are only looking a a very quick clip, we have no idea what else is going on at the training. No matter how well trained, a horse is a living, thinking creature that you work with. They may need many takes to get scenes right.

  161. I'll bet there will be some PDA pics soon to couteract the limp wrist riding picture.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Jake was looking right into the camera when thos 3 pics were taken and was almost smirking, he was either joking around or mocking. The res of the pics are wat is to be expected.

If he was joking then it borders on homophobic to me, and there will be pap pics all this summer of Jake and Reese, that was the plan all along.

    ReplyDelete
  163. ^^Oh, I knew that was coming - when all else fails. There's no way to know what he's thinking, or implying by smirking. He's probably just a little wobbly at first, that's all. When you look at all the pics in their context, you can see he was probably just adjusting to being in the saddle. He does adjust, and then he looks just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  164. He's probably joking around or mocking about his being a little wobbly in the saddle, not targeting anybody for ridicule. If he is with Reese, we're going to have to accept it at some point, and move along.

    ReplyDelete
  165. It's a stopped frame of motion, doesn't mean anything because an idiot blog decided to spin it a certain snarky way to get hits for his blog. If you saw all the frames together, it would be one smooth follow through arm motion I'll bet, not the way it really is not how "Mr. Pap" wants to show it for snark value.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Trolly you are so busy today. Listen since no one cares what is posted here or on OMG because its only a few people can you let us in on why you need to visit us so often?

The VAST majority of people think Jake is straight. He's moving in with Reese its time to move on right? Isn't that what you tell people on your many many posts? So tell me why don't you move on and leave this tiny unimportant place?

    ReplyDelete
  167. Look at it this way, why would he do something homophobic? It makes no sense. If he would, then I would say even Reese needs to kick his butt to the curb and get rid of him.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I think the vast majority don't care either way, whether he's straight or gay, don't need him to be either one, just want to enjoy his talent. I don't know - but time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Disney is not going to be happy about these photos. The jokes are starting already and they haven't even filmed one frame yet.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Trolly is very busy because deep down trolly is afraid that Jake is really gay and that Reeke is one big sham.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I'm sure they'll manage - I'm sure they were aware of it. Did you really think there wouldn't be any? They were tired jokes then, and they are tired now. Most people with a mental age above 12 won't pay any attention to the small amount of jokes out there, and I'm sure Disney is aware of that too. What I have heard so far are mild, lame, predictable. I don't think that should worry anyone, and nobody with a brain would take any of it seriously. If they were unacceptable before, they should be unacceptable now, no matter who is slinging the arrows, and for what purpose. There's alway a naysayer, a wet blanket, someone envious, for every film out there. Every film out there has something.

    ReplyDelete
  172. 8:47, wrong again. I would be thrilled if he were gay. If he isn't, that's ok too. Nice if life could be as simple for everyone else as it is for you.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Thanks for your reassuring commentary. Don't you need to get back to IMDB and tell them all to stop hating on Jake? Doesn't someone have to man that site 24/7 to slap down the naysayers or is it not your shift?

    ReplyDelete
  174. check out the ONTD thread:

    http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/25281173.html

    cruel but hysterical

    ReplyDelete
  175. Why is this troll so concerned about what we think? Is it because all of the gossip sites have latched onto these photos and are using them as one big joke? Not good publicity for this movie.

    ReplyDelete
  176. 8:51 7 8:56, no, I'm calling homophobia when I see it. Spreading this idiocy around is what is homophobic. This is the John Dean effect, something taken all out of proportion to make it appear that it is something it is not.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Some of your commenters on that ONTD say the same thing, that these jokes are homophobic, or didn't you read that. And most of the comments are very mild. Not a convincing argument on your part. I'd dig a little deeper, or make some stuff up.

    ReplyDelete
  178. LOL at the spin 4 pages of people laughing at Jake is "mild". And who is trying to create a convincing argument? No one is arguing with you we just want you to go away. We're the wrong group to try to convert. Go tell the people on an forum (try a non-Jake is a closetcase forum) that they are being mean. Maybe they'll feel bad and stop.

  180. Oh, and do you think Jake bearding is not homophobic?!

OMG I have real concerns for PoP now... he looks awful. All that bearding, months & months gone... PR must be pissed. lol!

    ReplyDelete
  181. ^^If I knew that for certain, I'd say it was, but I don't. I don't know that it's real either. I'm just waiting to see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Just watched the video of Jake riding. Is it me or he doesn't ride well... too much bouncing on his horse? ugh! hee!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Oh Trolly you'll never go away we know that. You are everywhere online that anyone is discussing Jake for any reason.

    The real question is why?

Why do you care so much about what we say?

    ReplyDelete
  184. DLISTED WASN'T MILD everyone is mocking poor Jake. Trolls are on high alert.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Hey, 10.55 if you are bored go someplace else where you think it's more interesting. That ain't too hard is it??

And getting back to Jake, I think the reason the reaction to him is so bad is because he is bearding and pretty much rammed it non stop down everyone's throats for months on end. Well, too bad Jakey, consequences, consequences!!

    ReplyDelete
  191. EWWW the Babblers are touching themselves? TMI!!! Srsly if you are bored here go back to IMDB where you can discuss how you don't go to boards like this or read comments from crazy people. LOL.
