Austin is so hard to read.
With Jake, there is too much evidence pointing towards him being gay, or at the very least... bisexual with a strong preference towards men. The rumors go back to when he went to college. He is up there with Tom Cruise and John Travolta... so many rumors that there has to be some truth to it. He could get married and have kids and I will still believe that he is gay. No matter how many women he hooks up with in public, or PR relationships, he is probably seeing men in private.
We don't really know enough about Austin to make a judgement. He isn't in the public eye a lot. From everything I have seen and read about the two of them I believe that they did have something together, whether sexually or serious, but I'm leaning towards Austin being either bicurious or bisexual with a strong preference towards women. I don't get the impression that he is fully straight but I think he does prefer women.

I'm glad that Austin and Jake are still good friends, despite all the rumors about them. Rumors like that can ruin a friendship. I see Austin liking posts about Jake on IG, and he is friends with Jake's NY friends, close friends with Jake's childhood friends. He interacts with them a lot. I'm sure that they still meet up in private but not as much as before since they are in different states.

In my opinion, even if you're an unknown actress or actor there is still pressure to be straight. If you come out of the closet early it is unlikely that you'll make it big. It can kill your acting career before it properly takes off. That is why there are so many closeted actors, even in small TV series.
Also, agents and PR have so much control over their clients. It is their job to sell them to the public. I think that is why we saw Austin and Jake everywhere together, then not at all. Going by social media they are still 'friends' but we never see them in public. Why would 'friends' be scared to be seen in public together? I think it is likely that Jake's agent/PR had words with him about it.

I dug The Sisters Brothers. I'm all about Joaquin Phoenix but John C Reilly and Jake Gyllenhaal steal the show. The film does a good job of feeling epic and intimate at the same time, which coincides with its massive tone shifts. The film is brutally violent while often touching.

A Little Tale of Jake & Austin: The Sacrifices of a Parent
So after the If There Is, I Haven't Found It Yet "Jake caught in L.A." debacles and the "Sunday in the Park With George " Jake caught in upstate western NY (coffee) and Michigan (tacos) debacles, this time around the fellas have had to lie even more low than usual. But last week, it was the lack of activity which revealed as much than if Jake had been sighted purchasing Happy Meals at a Michigan McDonald's. Because Jakers' calendar for February and March has been solidly taken care of. He has double shows on weekends and his only 'off' days are Mondays. Such a tight schedule wouldn't seem to allow for cross-country travel for quick nookie or catching up on Baby Tile woes. Skype has probably been burning up the cyber waves. ;-)
So what about Austin during these two months that Jake's show Sealife / A Wall has been going on in New York City? Well, except for some Instagram Stories showing Austin holding Chumley's little spiffy dog in various venues, he's been out of sight.
And where was Big Sis during this time? Well, she was nowhere to be seen, EXCEPT for this story which dominated her social media search ...
Now, on Monday morning 2/25, a new video of Austin appeared on Twitter via a television news station in......Los Angeles - KTLA. Hmmm... Which, according to Narnia's way of thinking.....means Austin hasn't been anywhere near LA. LOL! Because if he has time to appear on a news station in LA to plug his movie, why didn't he have time to attend some of the Q & A's last week in Texas?
Austin may wear the big pants in the Jaustin household, but when it comes to the career side of things, looks like Jake just may "trump" Austin.
These are two large miscues by Jake and Austin's people, or is it rather that this is a decision made by the couple in the interest of their children? Do they try to have at least one of them with the kids if possible, save for any romantic we-time trips for two?

Even if Austin was live on that KTLA video (and I couldn't tell), it doesn't matter. Jake's last show on Sunday nights is at 8pm. It's not that long a flight to MI and Austin could have left on Sunday for LA, left Big Sis & Mee-Maw Gyllenhaal with the kiddos until Jake could play the cavalry and go rescue them. He leaves Tuesday morning, Austin takes an early flight and Big Sis & Mee-Maw have a pretty easy gig watching the whole crew. ...

According to PG, Jake and Austin want to have as many kids as possible, but are doing their best to avoid being with kids. Jake must spend at least 2,5 months in NYC / on Broadway. But Jake doesn't want kids in New York with him - kids are in MI so he'll spend only 1 day per week with them. In PG's crazy head such nonsense makes perfect sense.

Outside of trolling his long list of enemies, 50 Cent also uses his Instagram to flex his deep appreciation for expensive cars. However, it seems like the rapper might have met a formative opponent on both fronts as actor Jake Gyllenhaal stunted on 50 with his new, "sick" whip.
On Thursday, Gyllenhaal took to Instagram with a post aimed directly at 50's car collection. Gyllenhaal's video begins with an up-close shot of what appears to be an aftermarket tire and rim. But as the actor begins to pan out, it's revealed that Gyllenhaal is actually shooting a battery-powered toy car. Yet, Gyllenhaal never breaks character. Continuing to mimic a faux-challenge to the rapper with his commentary as well as in the caption that reads "Get in my car, [50 Cent]."
50 Cent wouldn't be 50 Cent if he didn't respond. Shortly after Gyllenhaal's clip, 50 uploaded two separate posts in which he conceded to the actor's whip game. "My man just got some new wheels these are way better than Forgiato’s get your weight up BIG BOY TOY’s," the rapper wrote in his first response. 50 then went on to praise Gyllenhaal's latest "purchase."
"My man [Jake Gyllenhaal] just got this new Red thing we are not playing out here," 50 Cent said to his followers. "this is serious business. We rolling LOL." Gyllenhaal and 50 Cent worked together on the 2015 film Southpaw and appear to have maintained a friendship.

Austin used to be ambitious when it came to his career. He even received his DGA card after he directed his first episode for "One Tree Hill" back in 2011. His missing in action lack of involvement with The Iron Orchard is a far cry from the guy who kept journals on every movie he saw, with intricate entries about his thoughts and observations. A resource for him to rely on in the future as he pursued his own projects.
What Austin apparently can find some time to do is participate in vapid, feeble-minded Instagram posts to "prove" he's with his beard, Chumley while "baby" sitting her dog and skipping out on screenings and openings for the few movies he does do. Show up for actual promotion work? Look like he actually cares about his career. Well, that's a bridge too far for Austie these days.
It's so obvious the guy's been, for the most part, MIA because Jake is working on his play in New York and fatherhood comes before career. He's literally Mr. Mom now. That's why Austin has to continue to have a beard. Endeavor can't just let him disappear, which is really what he has been doing, if anyone has been paying attention. A hetero image has to be maintained at all costs because of Jake. Not because of Austin. No matter how anemic and pathetic the attempts are. Some "proof" has to be put out there to counter any rumors. The intricate coordination is obvious.
