  6. The authenticity of this project about the idea of love and eternity he credits to Simons, Fukunaga, and his real-life reading buddies, his nieces, the daughters of sister Maggie Gyllenhaal and brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard. “At this point in my life, my reference [for children] is my relationship with my nieces, playing with them, interacting with them, laughing with them, listening to them,” he says, his round blue-green eyes lighting up.

“Children have a very particular kind of honesty that you’re looking to get to as an adult . . . they are great barometers for bullshit.” Offering up a particularly observant dose of unfiltered truth? His costar Leila, whom Gyllenhaal says called the shots on set: “The first thing she did in the audition was come up to my beard and go ‘Cut, cut, cut,’ and I was like ‘She’s hired!’”

She’s off the market! Amy Schumer is dating chef Chris Fischer, Us Weekly exclusively confirms.

The new couple were spotted enjoying a romantic dinner date in New York City on Tuesday, November 7. The comedian, 36, wore a red and black patterned button-down shirt, black pants and dark shoes, while the Beetlebung Farm Cookbook author, 37, donned a simple black T-shirt.

The Snatched actress previously dated furniture designer Ben Hanisch. They called it quits in May after nearly a year and a half together. “Amy and Ben have ended their relationship after thoughtful consideration,” her rep told Us at the time, adding that the former couple “remain friends.”

Schumer and Hanisch met on a dating app in November 2015 and went public with their relationship the following January. “I feel like Ben is the first guy who’s really been my boyfriend,” she told Marie Claire in July 2016. “There are guys who, if they heard me say that, would want to punch me in the face, but yeah, it’s the truth.”

Since their split, the two have remained amicable. The Inside Amy Schumer star even thanked the Chicago native for her new patio furniture on Instagram in September. “Thank you @benhanisch … we are loving it,” she captioned a hilarious photo of herself wearing a McDonald’s onesie and sitting on a wooden swing.

  14. Amy Schumer reportedly has a new man in her life – chef Chris Fischer!

The 36-year-old actress and comedian, who is starring on Broadway right now in the play Meteor Shower, was spotted on a dinner date with Chris, 37, last week in New York City.
You can check out the photos on Us Weekly.

Chris reportedly is the brother of Amy‘s personal assistant!

Amy and her former boyfriend Ben Hanisch split back in May after a year and a half of dating. They met each other on a dating app in November 2015. See a photo of Chris posing with celeb chef Mario Batali below.

  16. Revealed: Amy Schumer is dating chef Chris Fischer... as the two are spotted enjoying a romantic meal

Amy Schumer is dating chef turned farmer Chris Fischer, it has been revealed. The actress was photographed on a romantic date with 37-year-old Fischer, who is reported to be her assistant's brother, on Tuesday last week. The two sipped glasses of wine and chatted intently, gazing into one another's eyes.

Fischer is the first man Amy has dated since she split from Ben Hanisch in May this year after 18 months. The comedienne previously admitted Ben - who she met on a dating app - was the perfect man for her as he wasn't phased by her celebrity status. That's something that Fischer - a good friend of Jake Gyllenhaal - should also be able to handle. And like furniture maker Ben, it seems Amy's new man is good with his hands.

Having made a name for himself at Mario Batali's upmarket Babbo in Manhattan and the famed River Cafe in London, Chris gave up his city life to take over the family farm in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. He wrote his critically acclaimed Beetlebung Farm Cookbook while working at New England farm-to-table restaurant Beach Plum, named as a favorite of Barack and Michelle Obama in 2013. Chris took over Beetlebung in 2010 from his aunt Marie and his grandmother, who still owns the farm at the age of 102. According to his website, Ben's grandparents Regina and Ozzie founded the five-acre Beetlebung Farm in 1961. The two raised their four children there while farming cows, and growing vegetables and flowers they sold on a farm stand.

His Instagram feed shows his idyllic life, featuring plenty of moody shots of the countryside, beautifully plated vegetable-rich meals, and family photos. And Chris sure seems to be living the good life. In an interview last year he talked of his annual Thanksgiving celebration with friends.

'It’s a whole day spent cooking and takes a big effort to clean up the next day, but this work adds seasoning to our appetites,' he said. 'The festivities are always great with friends huddling around the fires to stay warm deep into the night, and as usual, I was too busy hosting and organizing to eat a proper meal on the night of the party. 'This year, I took home the tender boiled meats and ate them alone in my living room the following night, in front of my fire, having said goodbye to all those who made the trip.'

That’s the latest allegation from John Campea, who claims the current Caped Crusader will be relieved of his crimefighting duties soon after the launch of Justice League. His successor? Jake Gyllenhaal, who has allegedly been shortlisted to headline The Batman – and, by effect, a whole new trilogy – under the stewardship of Matt Reeves. Gyllenhaal has long been rumored for the role of Gotham’s Dark Knight, having just missed out on Batman and Spider-Man in the past. ...

  46. Four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams is in talks to play the female lead alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Benedict Cumberbatch in Luca Guadagnino’s Let It Fall Back, a project formerly known as Rio, the Tracking Board has learned.

Studiocanal is financing and producing the Steven Knight-scripted film, which follows a financial reporter (Gyllenhaal) who travels to Rio de Janeiro to visit a wealthy friend (Cumberbatch), only to get sucked into a plot to fake his friend’s death.

Details of Williams’ role are being kept under wraps, and while the actress’ deal hasn’t closed yet, Let It Fall Back is expected to serve as a reunion between her and Gyllenhaal, who co-starred in Brokeback Mountain together. She has yet to work with Cumberbatch, however.

Gyllenhaal and Cumberbatch will each produce via their respective banners, Nine Stories Productions and Sunny March, while Adam Ackland and Riva Marker will also produce.

Studiocanal began presenting the project to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and production is slated to start next year, once Williams wraps Sony’s Venom, which pairs the actress with Tom Hardy.

Williams was last seen in the Best Picture nominee Manchester by the Sea and Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck, which is currently in theaters. She’s about to take part in reshoots for Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World, which is poised for a major rebound this awards season, and she next stars opposite Hugh Jackman in the musical The Greatest Showman. Both films could thrust her back into the Oscar race, which Williams is no stranger to.

  50. Michelle Williams on being a single mom to daughter Matilda with the late Heath Ledger:
“I know a handful of women in similar positions [to me], it’s kind of like a club. It’s a sh*tty club and we don’t want any new members… and all of the current members are exhausted. But man, oh man, it’s lifesaving to have [them]. My friend Busy [Phillips] and her husband Marc [Silverstein] said, ‘Michelle, you’re in like a blackout zone, everybody is now partnered up and you have to wait for people to start getting divorced.’ Oh my f*cking God…”

On getting into the dating scene:
“Talk about a learning process. I think, God, what would I say about it? I feel really sensitive about it and certainly did not expect to be still dating at 36 with an 11-year-old. This is not what I imagined. I’m like a cat, I’m a very domestic creature. I just want to stay home and take care of people. But I’m also happy with myself and just because I might have a desire to be with someone… that won’t lead me to marry the wrong person.”

    On finding her life complete:
“I watched [Matilda] warm in the sun, in her swimsuit, get on her bicycle and smile and wave as she rode off to go meet her friends. I went back into the house and sobbed because of this incredibly simple moment – common everyday happiness. I really felt like in that moment, like wow, we’ve done it. Not only are we OK, she’s happy. Life has brought us to a place that’s not just surviving, but thriving.”

Director Matt Reeves – he of ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ and ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ fame – will be behind the camera for ‘The Batman’.

And according to rumours, his choice for the new Bruce Wayne is Jake Gyllenhaal.

Podcaster John Campea is behind the rumours, saying that the talk has come from the same source that confirmed to him that Ben Affleck is now done with the role.

He goes on to say that Gyllenhaal has even met with Reeves to discuss the part, though it’s far from a done deal. ...

Jake Gyllenhaal winked at me at the women's march when I recognized him and it made me feel like we were gonna get through these next 4 years somehow

Oh and when I met Jake Gyllenhaal after an off broadway show he was in he accidentally signed over someone else’s signature on my playbook and freaked out and was so adorably apologetic and signed again

On Stronger set I was so sick & Jake Gyllenhaal would help with sage & teas on set, comedian Lenny Clarke knew I was a newbie & took the time to show me the ropes, Dwayne Johnson & his family let out the greatest cheer after the Trump Tower tightrope scene..still my favorite!

At the Brokeback Mountain premiere I got very overwhelmed bc Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get a chance to come over to the fans before going inside. My friend told his publicist & when he was leaving he came over to just me & took a pic & we talked.

I walked Jake Gyllenhaal's dog for a few weeks for money, and one time he answered his door instead of his assistant, and he still introduced himself like I didn't know who he was.

At my old job I got to deal with a bunch of nice famous people and among the best were Jake Gyllenhaal, Whoopi Goldberg, Andy Cohen, Conor McGregor, Sienna Miller, Douglas Hodge, Naveen Andrews, Victor Garber, Jimmi Simpson, Ben Barnes and Zach Woods./Sold Jake Gyllenhaal a bunch of cookies and candy as tech rehearsal snacks for his Sunday in the Park with George cast and crew. He hung around and chatted with me about theatre for a while and was super nice.

A friend and I asked Jake Gyllenhaal for acting advice and he said "to quote Drake: stay humble" walked away, turned around/came back and said "you know what, no, fuck humble. Stay aware."

jake gyllenhal came into my cafe, said please and thank you, and cleared his own table (even wiped it down with a napkin!) and put his plate in the wash bin.

Thank you Jake Gyllenhaal. I saw him last week he said nice to see you again.

Jake Gyllenhaal is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Caught a screening of his new movie #Stronger about Jeff Bauman and the Boston marathon bombing. His work was incredible and the story was gut wrenching at times. In person for a Q&A after the movie you could tell Jake is just as great an actor as he is a human. One question he got was about advice for actors and he quipped "do you have any advice for me?" I quickly said "don't give up" and that got a laugh. 76. The director of 'Nightcrawler' gives details about his upcoming Netflix movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Writer-director Dan Gilroy may be out promoting his new movie “Roman J. Israel, Esq.,” starring Denzel Washington (in theaters nationwide Wednesday), but his mind is on his upcoming Netflix movie where he reteams with his “Nightcrawler” star Jake Gyllenhaal.

Though the project is currently untitled, and Gilroy admits he’s been keeping what it’s about under wraps, he did divulge a little about it to Business Insider when we chatted with him in New York City on Monday. “It’s set in the world of contemporary art in Los Angeles,” Gilroy said. “It’s got a Robert Altman-like large ensemble cast. It’s got a ‘The Player’ vibe to it.”

“There’s a large cast and we’re moving around from person to person as we move through this world,” Gilroy said of his movie. “The story is being told through these different characters.”

Altman’s Oscar-nominated "The Player" (1992) gives a satirical look at the Hollywood studio system. Centered around a executive (Tim Robbins) who is being sent death threats by an unknown screenwriter (it’s impossible to know who exactly as so many hate his guts), Altman filled the movie with countless stars in cameos and supporting roles.

As of now, the only cast Gilroy will reveal for his movie are the two people who were in his directorial debut, “Nightcrawler” — Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo (who is Gilroy’s wife). The director says filming will being on March 2 in Los Angeles.

Gilroy won’t confirm if the movie will be as dark as “Nightcrawler,” which followed a con man (Gyllenhaal) who finds his calling as a freelance video journalist who films violent events that occur late at night in the city, and then sells the footage to TV stations (watch the movie on Netflix before it leaves the site in December). But Gilroy did admit, “It’s not a drama.”

“It’s opening Halloween next year, that will give you some indication what kind of movie it is,” he said. We cannot wait to learn more about what seems to be a movie that meshes the twisted worlds of “Nightcrawler” and Altman’s “The Player.”

  82. Kaufman: Jake, you got close to Jeff Bauman, who’s the real-life inspiration for “Stronger.” How do you deal with making the subject OK with doing the story, but also doing your own thing?

Gyllenhaal: There’s a massive responsibility, right? And just given the subject matter, it’s not only to Jeff but to all the survivors. The pressure’s on to make sure that you do it right, that you do it honestly, and that you are thoughtful and accurate. And I think that’s what Jeff wanted. He just has a kind of BS monitor, so for me, it was always about vetting that. But he knew it was semi-fictional.

Jackman: Did he read the script?

Gyllenhaal: No. He had written a book, and then he met all of us. I spent about a year with Jeff before we started shooting, so he knew kind of what we were getting into, and we were all very close, and we are all still very close. The movie’s not a movie to me anymore. The movie is now an experience in my life. He’s now my friend, we talk every day.

Jake Gyllenhaal is cooking Thanksgiving dinner for his family

Hugh Jackman and “Spotlight” director Tom McCarthy hosted a special screening of Jake Gyllenhaal’s film “Stronger” in Soho on Tuesday night — and we hear Jake headed straight from the event to prepare to personally cook dinner for his family.

Spies said that Maggie Gyllenhaal and hubby Peter Sarsgaard were at the screening along with “O.J.: Made in America” filmmaker Ezra Edelman, “The Sopranos” creator David Chase and Joel Grey. Jake plays inspiring Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman in the film, and Bauman was at the screening as well.

The actor and the film’s subject have become very close and are in touch daily. After the attack, Bauman, who lost his legs and helped authorities ID one of the terrorists behind the attack, is now speaking all over the world and studying engineering to learn to design prosthetics for other amputees, we hear.

Jake’s getting Oscar buzz for his portrayal. After the emotional film, he headed straight from the screening to upstate New York, where he’ll make Thanksgiving dinner for sister Maggie and Sarsgaard as well as his screenwriter mom, Naomi Foner, and other friends and family.

“Jake’s an amazing cook,” says a Hollywood pal.

Meanwhile, sources said that Jackman was headed to the Hamptons with wife Deborra-Lee Furness to celebrate the holiday.

  97. Oscar Beat: Best Actor Predictions—Can James Franco Get in?November 24, 2017 9:24 am

The Oscar race is off and running, and while I posted my inaugural predictions a few weeks ago, we already have some major movements in a few categories. One of those is Best Actor, a category that’s now finally starting to take shape after what seemed to be a wide open field—aside from one.

Indeed, this one very much seems like it’s Gary Oldman’s to lose. The beloved performer turns in a wholly transformative performance in Joe Wright’s World War II drama Darkest Hour, in which he plays Winston Churchill. Oldman is as good as everyone’s saying, and bolstered by an Anthony McCarten script that gives him multiple explosive speeches—which he subsequently hits out of the park—this is a film chock full of “Oscar clip”-worthy scenes.

But beyond Oldman, it’s really not that competitive of a Best Actor race just yet. Timothee Chalamet should absolutely be in contention for his star-making turn in Call Me By Your Name, which continues to rack up critical support after first bowing at Sundance earlier this year. It’s a major contender in multiple big categories, and while younger performers don’t usually score Best Actor nominations, if the Academy takes to Call Me By Your Name the way audiences at Sundance, TIFF, and the New York Film Festival did, he should make the cut.

And with Phantom Thread now finally being unveiled, we can probably save a spot for Daniel Day-Lewis. The acting giant has already announced this is his final performance, and with a story in the vein of Rebecca that looks to be a 100% acting showcase for the performers involved, Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest could very likely land his sixth Oscar nomination.

There’s also James Franco, who I pegged as an outside contender but nontheless worth in my initial predictions. Now The Disaster Artist is finally being seen by more critics, and all are starting to get onboard the “James Franco for Best Actor” train. The actor turns in a truly stunning performance as Tommy Wiseau in the true story comedy/drama about the making of The Room. The film is great, as is Franco, and while the Academy doesn’t love to recognize comedic performances, this one may be hard to deny. Franco already has an Indie Spirit nomination under his belt this season, so let’s see how the rest of the awards circles shake out.

And then we have Jake Gyllenhaal giving one of the best performances of his career in Stronger, although his footing is less solid given that the film seems to have unperformed at the box office and, disappointingly, is at risk of being forgotten come Oscar time. ...

  98. Justice League was meant to usher in a bright new era for Batman and his Super Friends, but it’s looking likely that the movie will mark the final appearance of Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight. That’s because it’s been reported that he won’t be appearing in the The Batman, after all, with Jake Gyllenhaal allegedly lined up to replace him.

Thanks to some new info, though, we may know a little bit more about the situation now. The leak apparently comes from an “incredibly reliable source” at Warner Bros., though it does originate from Reddit, so it’d be best taken with a pinch of salt. Still, given that the social media site has yielded accurate intel in the past, we wouldn’t completely dismiss this latest scoop.

Anyways, here’s what the post had to say:
“Matt Reeves hopes to have the film out by 2020. Plot details remain under wraps but Matt has indeed met with other people about replacing Affleck. Initially it was just a tactic to get Affleck to sign on for more films, but then when that didn’t work, it got through to the studio that Affleck REALLY didn’t want to stay. Gyllenhaal really wants the role, but the studio isn’t 100% sold on the idea yet. They might use Flashpoint to make him younger, but I don’t know how that will work.”

If this is leak is to be believed, it seems that Gyllenhaal being the one to don the cowl next is far from a sure thing. While the actor is allegedly psyched for the part, he’s not the studio’s preferred choice. It’s also being reported that director Matt Reeves has “met with other people,” suggesting that there are several potential Bruce Waynes being (here it comes) batted around. What this rumor rules out, though, is the chance that Affleck will remain on board for The Batman.

It’s interesting that the rumor states that the changeover of actors could be a result of Flashpoint, as the initial report that revealed Gyllenhaal as the possible next Batman suggested that DC wouldn’t do it this way, out of fear of confusing audiences who weren’t comic book literate. If they did go this route, though, it would be in keeping with The New 52, which shaved a few years off the Justice League.

The Batman is thought to be aiming to start shooting in mid-2018, but these casting challenges could push it back even further. In the meantime, you can catch Affleck as Batman, possibly for the last time, in Justice League, which is in cinemas now.

At least he didn't sell out to Marvel and their never-ending franchise-vortex, like almost most of the peers of his age group did, playing the same one-dimensional role with the tired old jokes, becoming a caricature, much like Robert Downey Jr.has in the past decade for example.

  132. Brace yourself. In a break from previous years, when the lineup was divided up and revealed section by section over several days, the Sundance Film Festival has unveiled its entire feature program in a single announcement, touting 110 films — 99 of them world premieres — set to screen in Park City next month, where the festival will unspool from Jan. 18-28.
    ...
This year’s edition includes films from 47 first-time directors, representing 29 countries, including two debuts from actors-turned-directors: Paul Dano’s “Wildlife” and Idris Elba’s “Yardie,” both adapted from novels, and Rupert Everett’s Oscar Wilde biopic “The Happy Prince” (not counting Ethan Hawke, whose third narrative feature, “Blaze,” is the actor-director’s first to debut at Sundance).

  141. Speaking recently at 92Y in New York, Jake Gyllenhaal discussed his new film, Stronger, about a survivor of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and some of his plans for the future.

In the film, Gyllenhaal portrays Jeff Bauman, a man from Carlisle, Mass., who was standing at the race’s finish line and lost his legs when the first bomb exploded. He later helped the FBI identify one of the bombers.

Speaking with “Reel Pieces” series moderator Annette Insdorf, Gyllenhaal said he spent almost a year with Bauman before the film began shooting. “I went back and forth to Boston every week. He’s one of my friends. I speak to him almost every day. I’ve never had the honor, the responsibility to play someone I’ll never be. When you get to spend time with someone like that, it’s more than a blessing, it’s life-changing. To get it right still stresses me out. Nothing beats the real thing,” he said.

Gyllenhaal said he will try his hand at directing “at some point. I have such profound respect for it.” He also said he and Martin Scorsese are developing a biographical film about Leonard Bernstein.

Several years ago Scorsese announced he would direct a film about Bernstein, while Gyllenhaal—who starred recently in a Broadway revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical, Sunday in the Park with George—sang the song, "Maria," from Bernstein's West Side Story, at a program at Lincoln Center in New York last year.

  154. Jake Gyllenhaal offers a phenomenal performance as Bauman and while even after his injury he maintains his likeability, the audience never forgets the pain he goes through onscreen. Jeff actually accepts his disability rather quickly, joking about it the moment he wakes up in the hospital. However, it’s not so much his disability that bothers him, but rather the fact that everyone, his family, and friends included, feels the need to enforce upon him their opinion of what the bombing (and his survival) means. Even in the obligatory scene of his tearful breakdown, Gyllenhaal makes sure to convey not only his anger but also the feelings behind it. Under every raging scream, Gyllenhaal’s voice will crack and revert to one of fear and insecurity that comes not just from the repercussions of the attack but also from his utter lack of ambition in life. Tatiana Maslany offers an equally commendable portrayal of Erin who is brilliantly characterized against the archetype of the saintly woman that cleans up after the disabled protagonist regardless of how he treats her; clearly drawing the lines between easing Jeff’s genuine pain and telling him when he’s wrong for feeling sorry for himself.

Stronger is released in UK cinemas on Friday 8th December 2017.

I caught a screening of STRONGER this weekend and was so ridiculously impressed and moved by Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance as Jeff Bauman. It’s one of the years very best and proves once again what a chameleon Jake is, completely transforming himself in this role. I felt this way watching Nightcrawler, what can’t this guy do as an actor? He’s tremendous. The entire cast is excellent! Highly recommended! #stronger

Delivering a career-peak Gyllenhaal in Stronger is the performance of the year so far. Indeed, it is Green’s outstanding cast and acknowledgement of pain that elevate the film to excellence. Cheating death does not make a man a hero but enduring the continuous physical and mental struggle makes him an inspiration.
