Then Faux Chlo announced she was going to be there too, but Austin was not allowed to participate. He had to be in Los Angeles, watching movies. If that doesn't tell you that he and Jake are still together, I don't know what does. There are over 500,000 at that march. That's how afraid Jake's people are of those rumors. They can't even be seen in the same area with 500,000 people mulling about.

Jake and his PR team seem to be using this important event as another stunt opportunity because he and Big Sis could have just participated in the march activities in New York City. Management no doubt thought it would be better to prove how footloose and fancy free Jake is by shipping him off to Washington, D.C. Particularly, since they made sure to exclude Austin, even though he is well-known for being politically active.

Yes, apparently Gyllenhaal is not the most graceful of astronauts at first. Life‘s set is based heavily on the real-life version of the International Space Station, and since straying too far from a wall carries the risk of leaving an astronaut stuck in mid-air, the ISS has plenty of handholds and – unfortunately – plenty of things for Gyllenhaal to crash into.
Reynolds: What’s awesome, it’s actually not in his control because we’re being puppeteered by wire cables. For whatever reason, the first few days Jake’s guys were just like, “Let’s throw him right into the wall.” In the middle of a scene, “What the hell?”
Gyllenhaal: Every other take I just hit the edge of something and I go f–king spinning and I hit a wall.

Any film set on a space station or an equivalent brings the best out of its ensemble. The cast of Alien, The Martian, Interstellar, Apollo 13, Serenity, and Prometheus each excelled because of their tight quarters and the fact that any tiny problem is immediately exacerbated when you're in a tight, metal abode thousands of miles from any other human being. The upcoming drama Life is set to follow this trend, especially because it has assembled a tip-top array of actors that will undoubtedly thrive in such conditions.

There's every chance, though, that come the end of the movie, they'll have been eclipsed by one or all of their co-stars, which includes Rebecca Ferguson, Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada, each of whom are riddled with acting moxie.
During my visit to the set of Life back in August, I had the chance to sit down with all of the cast alongside a group of other journalists. During our chat, they each broke down their roles on the International Space Station, and their revelations gave us a quick insight into the dynamic that we'll see in Life. Here's what they had to say,

Another actor that you might have heard of in recent years, the pairing of Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds is what makes Life such an appealing prospect. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the Dr. David Jordan to Ryan Reynolds' Rory Adams. Discussing his character, Jake Gyllenhaal remarked, "He's a doctor, sort of the internist on the ship and he's been there the longest. He's just the doctor and makes sure that everybody's healthy."
Sounds pretty run of the mill, but considering that some kind of alien life form infiltrates the International Space Station and soon starts wreaking havoc, it's safe to say that his skills as a doctor will be stretched to the limit. The trailer for Life has already suggested that Reynolds and Gyllenhaal come into some conflict over how to deal with quarantining both the alien and those that come into contact with it. How will that be resolved?

Jake Gyllenhaal Says Ryan Reynolds Deserved Oscar Nomination
ReplyDeleteAt a Q&A following a screening of Nocturnal Animals on Tuesday — the day that the Oscar nominations were announced — Jake Gyllenhaal shared his opinion about what he considered an Oscar snub.
Gyllenhaal didn’t say himself, though the 36-year-old veteran actor did deliver one of the year’s trickiest, most layered lead performances in Tom Ford’s dark psychological thriller, in which he played dual roles. In one third of the movie he’s a young writer from Texas named Edward, falling into and out of love with his college sweetheart (Amy Adams). And then he’s Tony, a fictional character in Edward’s novel, who is terrorized along with his family on a highway late at night.
He did score a British Academy Award (BAFTA) nomination for his lead role. Gyllenhaal won the BAFTA for best supporting actor in 2006 for Brokeback Mountain and was nominated in 2015 for Nightcrawler.
But one of the performances he believes deserved more serious recognition is from a film that received zero Oscar nominations.
“Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool,” Gyllenhaal says. “We talk about brilliant performances all the time, you know, the actors who tear themselves apart for their roles, which I’m a believer in. But then I look at Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool and I say, ‘No one can do that but him.’ That is truly, purely him. As an artist he struggled for several years to figure that out and it’s all there on the screen. And it’s brilliant.”
Reynolds aspired to play the ribald Marvel superhero for a decade (even appearing as a neutered version of the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine) until finally getting the green light from Twentieth Century Fox, following a very mysterious leak of test footage. Directed by Tim Miller, the movie opened last February and went on to earn $363 million.
Gyllenhaal adds, “Sure it’s a comic book movie and it’s made a lot of money — but that doesn’t subtract from Ryan’s extraordinary work. Because it’s him. I mean, let’s ask ourselves: What else do we want from people who create? Something that is truly them.”
Gyllenhaal and Reynolds, it should be mentioned, are not strangers. On March 24, they’ll both be seen in the outer space drama Life.

In a move which really is not surprising, it turns out that yesterday's Women's March on Washington was the perfect opportunity to ship a couple of PR narratives. 1) Jake Gyllenhaal is an advocate for women's rights, and 2) Jake Gyllenhaal can't be gay because he loves women (and even invited his "longtime female pal" Greta Caruso to accompany him at the women march.) Because remember, Jake can't get enough of women.

Another side eye was the "presence" or pretend presence of Austin's beard, Chloe Bennet, at the Women's March in DC. Did Bennet offer any undeniable proof she was there? Nope.

The picture below of Jake and Maggie contains several questionables, like why is the bag under Jake's arm flat? In other pictures, the bag obviously has contents in it. I look at the two brown shoes directly behind the brunette girl standing behind him. Is that person on top of the girl's back? Because that's what it looks like. And yes, Maggie is listed at 5'9", but in this picture, they are both on level ground. Is Jake really that much taller than she is? These are just a couple of things that I had to question.

I have 95% doubt Maggie was there at the march. ...
And speaking of "where was", one has to wonder about Austin in all of this. ...
One has to wonder why he didn't accompany his bird Chlo to Washington DC, even though they had just been to that very same city (quite noisily, too - I seem to recall that great "White House" photo) this past fall. ...
I'm not sure about everyone else, but the only person I am 100% certain was in attendance in Washington DC yesterday was Jake. Honorary mention tip to Greta Caruso, who is - make no mistake about it - the current beard for Jake. Everyone else? I don't think they were there.
Largest stunt I think we've witnessed up to this point in following Jake and Austin. And no doubt, the stunt was to separate these two. With Austin loudly planted in "Los Angeles" and Jake blowhorned in DC? The separation is clear and was supported by a cast of thousands.

For anyone who has participated in an online fandom focused on a closeted celeb or couple, certain patterns emerge rather quickly. Besides the inevitable mental abuse of gaslighting (using psychological means to manipulate others by having them question their own sanity), there are the 24/7 trolls who harass, ridicule and try to marginalize those who are not willing to toe the party line of management.
Besides the constant queerbaiting that aggressively pushes an implied homophobia (because according to The Powers That Be no one willingly closets themselves), there's also a tried and true technique of divide and conquer to partition and pit one group against another (often believers [hats] against hets) to hopefully use peer pressure to crack down on what is perceived as subversive talk. In actuality this "troublemaking" talk is really nothing more than non-obliging people expressing an independent opinion about what is being seen and heard and refusing to be silenced.
Probably my favorite closeting technique and one that Jake Gyllenhaal and Austin Nichols' team use on a regular ad nauseum basis is that of photoshopping and recruiting other performers, media outlets and personalities into shipping the "stories" they are trying to sell the public. ...

ReplyDeleteCaution: Big Smile Ahead at the Medical Building
I don't know about you all, but I generally am not smiling a whole lot anywhere near a medical/doctor's building, lol. But in a Tuesday Turnback, let's revisit January 29 2010 in a short video that was uploaded onto YouTube a few days later on Feb 2. Here is Jake Gyllenhaal "at" a medical center, and looking none too unhappy about it.

What or who was in that van that made Jake linger (even walk) alongside and smile so brightly, even for a few moments after the van had driven on?
A great looking movie script? Another puggle puppy? Austin Nichols striking a pose, pretzel-like in the backseat? How about cashmere upholstery? ;-)
Maybe it would help to paint a micro Baby Tile timeline. We know that Baby Tile No. 1 was born on October 17, 2007. Clues point towards twins being born in late, late 2008 / early 2009 (if not twins, then at least one baby seems highly likely) Could it have been a year's check up, a few weeks off schedule? Maybe one of the kiddos had the sniffles?
Fun to speculate now after having watched so much unfold in the years since. I myself think there was one, maybe two Baby Tiles in the back seat. Jake peers too long into the van and that smile is unlike any smile we see these days.
It's like seeing the footprints of Bigfoot, isn't it? Crop circles in the corn fields? So close and yet....so far. ;-)

ReplyDeleteA little more background for our new readers who are not as familiar with the early Baby Tile days. This was a huge clue every time these guys had a bun in the oven - the multitude of trips Jake made to this Beverly Hills medical center.
Jake was so less guarded back in these days, compared to the #Congras Baby Tile. There were a few trips to the medical building in November and December, which were a big clue there was another one born late 2015.
Another thing I think this video points to is how these guys sometimes travel with these kids. It's not like they're the Bradys in the Brady station wagon. Notice that someone else is driving the van with Baby Tile(s) inside. Jake drove separately and afterwards, is going to his own car. Or they're arriving? I think they're all leaving. Somehow the nanny and the BT came out another way or something.

Gyllenhaal has only been nominated once, for Best Supporting Actor in Brokeback Mountain, a film in which he was overshadowed by Heath Ledger. Since then, Gyllenhaal has at times seemed to court awards acceptance — he bulked up, Jake La Motta style, for Southpaw and he evoked sufficient pathos as a sad rich white man in search of redemption in Demolition. Most recently, Gyllenhaal emoted like crazy as a vengeful family man in Nocturnal Animals. But Academy voters opted instead for Gyllenhaal’s laconic foil, Michael Shannon.
Maybe the problem is that Gyllenhaal seems too eager. Gyllenhaal is generally regarded as an earnest worker, a guy who will show you exactly how much effort he’s putting in on screen. Leonardo DiCaprio is like that, too, but the typical DiCaprio character comes from a position of strength — the undercover cop, the eccentric billionaire, the sleazy Wall Street power broker, the mountain man who successful seeks revenge. Gyllenhaal meanwhile plays broken men whose obsessions always seem to lead them to oblivion — hardly the sort of thing the Oscars normally go for.
Louis Bloom is the closest Gyllenhaal has yet come to playing a “strong” character, though the film is dubious regarding his ultimate victory. In a town where scraping for power and accolades is a way of life at this time of the year, perhaps Gyllenhaal’s repellent depiction of that behavior in Nightcrawler hit a little too close to home.
