Somewhere around $40k roundtrip New York to LA, in other words probably about half of Austin's annual salary the past few years and Jake has been working for very little money lately on indie projects. Doubt he would spend his entire salary for Nightcrawler on one private plane trip.

His brother, Tony Gilroy, made his directorial debut with "Michael Clayton," and in both cases, these guys are making smart, grown-up movies that have these haunting qualities that make them special. I think "Nightcrawler" is something special, uncompromising, and I'm excited to see how other people feel when they slip into the violent, seedy, scary world it creates."
An audience member asked Gyllenhaal if he was “naturally that weird.”
Gyllenhaal took it in stride. “Yeah. I'm naturally that weird,” he replied deadpan. “I've been looking for a role for the past 18 years that would fit me, and this is it. This is closest to how I really am.”
