I pretty much don't trust anything on twitter anymore unless it is from somebody I know or a news organization, etc. It's incredible to me that people trust celeb sightings, brand endorsements etc.
A friend works for a PR agency and one of her main jobs is to manage fake social media stuff. There are companies that own thousands of fake accounts (twitter, facebook and pinterest). They look real because they have followers and seem to tweet real life stuff but it is all a facade. Then one of these firms will be hired to execute a campaign and they use their fake accounts to do it.
For example, go to twitter and search 'details magazine gyllenhaal' and you will see dozens of tweets in the past few days that are all identical tweets. All of those accounts are fake. And look at those accounts followers - those are all fake, too.

Nope. It has nothing to do with the magazine or Jake. 99% of the tweets these accounts send out are full of random crap like this. It's fluff / filler.
