The images are countless, breathtaking: Four editors-in-chief, 16 years online, piles of exclusives, plenty of gossip, invented languages, maddeningly fascinating celebrities (dead and alive) and most importantly — you. The reader.
We did this for two decades, folks! When The Awful Truth, which I founded at Premiere magazine 20 years ago, ends this week, it's not the deliciously decadent Blind Vices I will miss the most...
It's you barking types who always made me feel gloriously alive, with all you had to say and scream and be so real about.
That community is my life's (professional) work up until now. It has meant more to me than each of you will ever know.
But it really is time to move on.
If you don't agree, just keep in mind that when I first took this job at E!—in 1996, when the network founded E! Online—I was working at the established and respected Premiere magazine. Scores of people told me, "Online just isn't the place to go."
Everybody told me to pass on the job, and so I did. Then I called back the next day and an amazing man named Lew Harris said, yes, of course, I could change my mind. And I did.
So that's what I'd like my last words to be: Always do what you're not supposed to do.

In this week’s Backstage cover story, Jake Gyllenhaal talks about strapping on a bulletproof vest and going on ride-alongs with cops in L.A.’s South Central for five months in preparation for his new movie “End of Watch.”

Good description Anon 16:46 - I agree completely! It's good to see that he is spending more time outside the theater with fans now. The first two shows he didn't look like it was something he wanted to do at all (hence he only stopped for a small number and the negative comments started). The second show he was very nice but walked as if with blinders on. Some people have been commenting that they "expect" him to stop and sign/pose - I'm not sure if he is giving that some thought or just saw that the fans are out there after every single show so if he can't beat 'em he'll join 'em - LOL! Whatever the case, to me, he still looks like he is just going through the motions out there - a bit robotic. It's not my scene at all - all that swarming him and sticking playbills and cameras in his face - but he is always nice to look at!!

I'm still surprised that for someone who is as health conscious as Jake would go back to smoking. He's forever exercising and eating raw food or healthy food and smoking is so opposite. I get that he smoked several years ago, but to pick up the habit again (considering how hard it is to quit) is to bad.
