I think LAOD was heavily marketed to the 20-something crowd, the screening I went to was via an invite through a university network, and was full of college-aged kids. I think Jake and his people thought bearding with Swifty would help bring in the young girls, and of course Swifty was promoting her new CD.

Heath: A Night Under the Stars Celebrating One of Its Finest, will showcase Ledger's Oscar-winning performance in The Dark Knight, and the event has been endorsed by Ledger's family.
"We the Ledger family confirm our approval and endorsement for the one time only Heath tribute night and are pleased donations from the proceeds will benefit Telethon, His Majesty's Theatre Foundation & Australians in Film," Ledger's father Kim told organisers.
The event, which organisers promise will include some surprises, will feature a special guest appearance by his actress friend Miller, who co-starred with Ledger in the romantic Casanova.
Former supermodel and now actress Ward, who was romantically linked to Ledger, is also set to appear at the event on February 12 at the outdoor cinema Movies by Burswood next to Perth's Swan River.
More than 1200 people are expected to attend, including friends and family of Ledger. Tickets are also available for fans, at $30 for general admission and VIP double passes at $160.
An after party will take place at the stylish Minq bar at the Burswood Entertainment Complex.

Since I used to work in PR, I was fascinated by the fake stories planted about Jake giving her expensive presents. Those things were coming out of her camp. Complete misreading of his treehugger image.
As a PR maven, up until now, I had to give him kudos for some subtlety with the way the Reese Witherspoon "showmance" was introduced. Of course once it was out there things changed, but at first, it was subtle. Jake's people were nkow for the light touch. Until now.
It wasn't just internet bloggers and delusional fangurls fantasizing. It was TV shows like E! Access, and a few others.
I'd bet Jake's fans are glad he dumped her so fast. Professionally speaking, her PR people look bad. Private jets and diamond bracelets are the kinds of things rock stars and wannabes are into. Jake's arugula and granola.
BTW: Gwyneth rode this showmance for some mileage as she promoted her reincarnation as a country singer. She admits getting them together(!)even said Taylor, "has a "friendship" with my husband." Which gave me pause.
There was talk of Taylor sharing her dressing room with Gwyn at the awards show where she sang. But when Taylor later embellished, by saying she looks at Goop as an "older sister" I think their 'friendship' cooled. LOL!
To complete my analysis, from a PR point of view, this whole thing was a mess. If I had to rate it, in terms of the general public, Taylor came out looking worse than Jake, but that ain't sayin' much. The upside is that it's only a two or three day story.
I will credit Taylor's marketing people (a bit different from PR)with taking someone of such limited...'talent' and really making her a huge world-wide brand. It really is Taylor, Inc.

Reese Witherspoon, her engagement ring, and her fiancé Jim Toth hit up the Laker game, seated next to Jeffrey Katzenberg. They were cheerful and engaging and she clapped and smiled a lot and waved that diamond around like you’re supposed to when you receive a diamond that size. And it’s just a fun thing to do I guess when your ex-boyfriend f-cks up with country’s angel.
Curiously, on January 4th, 2009, Reese was also at the Laker game. On the exact same day, in the exact same seats, different date: Jake Gyllenhaal. They were cheerful and engaging and she clapped and they kissed, very publicly.

I saw Part I of the off-Broadway production of Angels in America last night. Great production, and seeing it in a small theater it had even more impact on me than it did when I saw the original production. The acting was good, and Zachary Quinto in particular is really good and compelling to watch, a fearless performance. He definitely has what it takes to be a stage actor.
I don't know who is more pathetic between reese and jake.

I also think the relationship with Toth is real and that it started months before we heard the news of the "break-up" between her and Jake. That was the problem with the fauxmance from the beginning. There was no doubt that Reese would eventually meet someone with whom she wanted to have a real relationship. Now she looks like a happy mature woman ready to enter the next phase of her life while Jake looks like the immature boy she dumped.
