Remembering Matthew Shepard
We asked people: "What effect did Matthew Shepard’s murder have on you since it happened 10 years ago?"
Matthew Shepard’s murder has served as a reminder for me that even good can come out of the most heinous acts. Dennis and Judy argued against the death penalty for their son’s murderers, and after his death established the Matthew Shepard Foundation to promote lgbt equality.
Bryan Glick
I was heartbroken; at the time I was living life as if America was a safe and accepting place. Ten years later I have learned that, in order for America to be that safe and accepting place, I have to live a genuine, visible life and take every opportunity to stand up in support of my community.
Erika Church
Matthew Shepherd’s heinous murder made real for me the ugly bigotry that had been hidden too long by giving it a face and a soul. Whenever I read of homophobic statements and actions, I now see Matthew’s face and it reminds me to stay in the fight for equality for all.
Kurt Bestor
I remember where I was and what I was doing — morning rush hour traffic. It made me realize how vulnerable life can be, and that living in my little bubble in Salt Lake City couldn’t protect me. I am always paying attention to my surroundings and I take nothing for granted.
Matt Lyon
I realized that the time had come for me to pull my head out of my ass and begin to live my life as God intended; gay, courageous and out.
John Wood
Matthew Shepard’s murder put a face to the issue of hate crimes in this country and who the victims of homophobia really are. His death was not only a wake up call to society at large, it was a resounding bell for the GLBT community to stand up for equal treatment and protection under the law. May His Memory Be Eternal (Greek Orthodox blessing).
Connie Anast
Matthew Shepard died just a couple years before I came out at 17. He signifies to me both that it is important to stand up and be counted for who I am, but to always remember that it can be dangerous to do so.
Josh Adamson
I have become very sensitive of which strangers I am open with about my sexuality (at least when I am in a strange town). When I travel through small towns I imagine the frustration and fears that the local GLBTQ people may be going through and I hope that they find positive allies and friends who will help to protect them.
Jeremiah Maybee
I wondered to myself "How in the world could anyone kill such a beautiful young man with so much potential and so much more life to be lived?" I remember attending the vigil at the Captiol that cold fall night when our community gathered together lighting candles in remembering Matthew’s life. That memory will live for me forever. Unfortunately, even with Matthew Shepard’s passing, many today are still violently beaten or killed today. When will it stop?

A hate crime remembered
ReplyDeleteThe horror of Matthew Shepard's murder has not diminished and neither should the resolve to crack down on hate crimes.
One decade ago, the world began learning the ghastly details of the beating and eventual death of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard. Shepard, who was openly gay, was tied to a fence and pistol-whipped by his attackers in the early morning hours of Oct. 7, 1998. He died in a Fort Collins hospital five days later.
The crime galvanized gay-rights activists, who were determined change should come of Shepard's death. In some ways, the death of the affable young man has made a difference. Laramie, where Shepard attended college, passed a bias-crime ordinance in response to his death. His killing also has led to greater awareness about hate crimes and calls for tougher laws nationwide.
But much work remains.
Wyoming is still one of 19 states without a hate-crime law. And an effort to expand a federal hate-crime law to include violent acts based on a victim's sexual orientation or gender identity died in Congress in 2007. Furthermore, FBI crime statistics show a distressing number of hate crimes still are being committed. In 2006, 9,080 offenses were reported, with nearly 300 of those classified as anti-homosexual crimes.
There is no doubt that all violent crimes are deplorable, but hate crimes have a ripple effect in communities. If one gay man or woman is targeted because of his or her sexual orientation, the effect is to send a message of fear to the entire gay community. The federal hate-crime law modification, which faced a veto threat from President Bush, ought to be revived under a new administration.
We understand the arguments that some have made against hate-crime laws in general, the most cogent being that they require the difficult- to-prove knowledge of a criminal's true motivation. But the Matthew Shepard Act would give the Justice Department new authority to investigate hate crimes, which would be an important advance.
Federal law enforcement could aid local authorities in investigations or even take the lead in crimes motivated by a victim's sexual orientation that resulted in death or serious injury if bias were a motivation.
The act had significant bipartisan support in Congress and is backed by a variety of law enforcement organizations, civil rights and church groups. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has said she supports the act, ought to find a way to marshal the support to make it law.
Even though 10 years have passed since Shepard was left for dead, lashed to a split-rail fence in near-freezing weather, the horror of the crime has not diminished and neither should the resolve to make sure crimes like it don't happen again.

ReplyDeleteThe lost brother - murder of Matthew Shepard - Abstract
Matthew Shepard was a gentle openly gay man in a state where being out isn't easy
On the night of Tuesday, October 6, the members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Alliance at the University of Wyoming got together for dinner at the Village Inn, a popular student hangout in Laramie. The group had a lot to be excited about. The students were planning a gay awareness celebration for the following week, which was to include a screening of In & Out and a discussion of "safe zones" for gay and lesbian students.
After dinner most of the group wanted to retire for the evening. But Matthew Shepard was aching to go out. "He wanted to go to the Fireside [Lounge], and he begged every single one of us to go with him," says Hauva Manookin, one of Shepard's friends. "But it was a week-night, and we didn't want to. We figured he wouldn't go by himself." But in fateful decision, Shepard did go by himself to the Fireside, a campus bar where he was a regular. The next day his battered body was found tied to a fence outside of town.
While he was alive, Matt Shepard was a cheerful young gay man known only to his friends and family. In death Shepard became the lost brother of gay men and lesbians across the country who were suddenly united in a devastating grief for a man they had not heard of just a week before.
At hundreds of vigils held across the country--from Pittsburgh to Pasadena to Portland, Ore.--tens of thousands of people burned candles in Shepard's memory and angrily demanded action on hate-crimes legislation. But underneath their chants was an element of fear and the enduring question of "How could this happen?"
Most of all, how could it happen to Matthew Shepard? A native of Wyoming, Shepard was nonetheless new to the state's gay scene. He went to high school in Europe, attended Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., and Casper College in Wyoming, and had worked in Denver for a while before moving to Laramie last summer to study political science and foreign relations at the University of Wyoming. By all accounts, Shepard was a gentle, fun-loving person whose slight build (5 feet 2 inches, 105 pounds) and ebullient disposition made people feel protective toward him, not threatened by him.
Kurt Scofield, a friend of Shepard's from North Carolina, called him "little Matt." Scofield recalls his friend as a "marathon shopper" who also read a lot--Old West-themed books were his favorite. The 21-year-old also says Shepard was the first to take him to a gay bar (bars in North Carolina are allowed to admit patrons aged 18 or older). "He just stood by me the whole time and made sure I was OK," he says. "He was a very wonderful person who thought everybody was as pleasant as he was."

I truly believe this quote - all of the hate and violence directed at each other for all kinds of reasons is human alone - it's not what a higher power intended. Everyone and everything was created equally and put here to have a life. Matthew was a beautiful young man. :-(
Gay Christians are forced to struggle with their religious and sexual identities. That must suck big time.

ReplyDeleteGod Loves Me Too: My Journey Coming Out as a Gay Christian
Growing up, one of the biggest struggles I went through was trying to integrate my sexuality with my faith. Believe it or not, I knew from the ripe old age of seven that I was gay. It's not that I wanted to have sex with men when I was younger...I just remember thinking how cool it would be if I could marry a boy instead of a girl when I was older. My very first "schoolyard" crushes were always boys, and when I hit puberty, these feelings for members of the same sex only grew stronger.
But I've always held my Christian faith and my relationship with God very close to my heart as well. I was raised in the church, and I remember wanting to be a missionary when I was much younger. I used to spend my money on Christian tracts to hand out to my friends, and I really had a true "hunger for the Lord" when I was growing up.
I remember hearing that homosexuality was a sin for as long as I can remember. This was really an intense struggle for me. I would lie awake for hours at night, praying-begging God to "make me straight." I would ask for forgiveness for having feelings towards other men. When I was about 14 years old, I started to get really depressed about all of this. I started to think about suicide-I knew that so far, God wasn't making me straight, and I didn't know how I could go on with these feelings inside of me.
When it came time for college, I decided to go to a Christian institution called Eastern University near Philadelphia. The first semester of college, the depression continued, and I sought the help of an "ex-gay" ministry. The counselors at the ex-gay place told me that with God's help, I could "heal" myself of homosexuality. They encouraged me to attend group sessions, which were lead by "straight" men who were formerly homosexual. Quickly I realized that ex-gay ministries didn't produce straight guys-they produced miserable, self-loathing gay men in denial. I'm planning to write another whole article on Associated Content about how horrible my whole "ex-gay experience" was, but for now, let's just say that it didn't work and 6 months later I was feeling worse that I was before I started college.
The summer after my freshman year, I reached a boiling point and I had what I refer to as "my first nervous breakdown." Crying spells, no sleep, and severe loneliness characterized the next few months. That summer, though, I was working as an intern for Tony Campolo, who most evangelical Christian's will recognize as a world-renowned preacher and social activist. Part of my job involved shipping copies of Tony's tapes and books to people who had placed orders on the website.
I started to read & listen to some of these materials, and as it turns out, Tony and his wife Peggy are very supportive of homosexual Christians. Peggy, in particular, believes that God allows for lifelong, committed relationships between two members of the same sex, and she has a lot of good Biblical evidence to back her up. Although Tony's views aren't quite so liberal, he doesn't think that homosexuals are going to hell and he thinks they can be actively involved in the church (including leadership positions), just like straight people. Peggy & Tony have held many discussions where they present God's message of love for the homosexual community, and they have made recordings of these discussions widely available. (For more information about Tony Campolo, visit his website at http://www.tonycampolo.org.)
This rocked my world & the foundations of my faith. Homosexuality had always been presented to me as a sin...no ifs, ands, or buts about it. But there were actually people out there who believed differently. They realize that the Bible has been historically used to oppress women and racial minorities, and they know that this current era of vitriolic condemnations of homosexuality will someday be looked at with bewilderment and disgust by future generations--just like we look at some past church teachings today. Luckily, Eastern University is on the liberal side of Christian universities, and I met lots of students & professors there who helped me figure out that God loved me, regardless of the gender of the people I loved.
If you are a gay person who is struggling to integrate their Christian faith with their sexuality, I would encourage you to seek out resources that are affirming of who you are as a person. I suspect that many gay people just figure that if God has rejected them, they will reject God. But the fact of the matter is, God hasn't rejected you. He loves you & created you in his image, whether you're gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered...it doesn't matter to him. Find books, websites, and churches (like the Metropolitan Community Church, a denomination started by gays & lesbians and their allies) that welcome homosexuals with open arms. If you have questions, find someone supportive to talk to.
Saying "Yes, I'm gay" doesn't have to be the end of your Christian journey. If you have more questions about what the Bible really says about homosexuality, visit http://www.whosoever.org. Also, if you'd like to get more involved in the fight to make churches in American more friendly for the LGBT community, visit the Soulforce website.
I'm happy to report that almost as soon as I accepted the fact that I could be gay & Christian at the same time, my life got so much better. My faith is important to me, and I knew that I could never feel "complete" without a spiritual component to my life. If you have struggled like I did, please do whatever it takes to find a place of comfort and peace for you & God. You will be so glad that you did.

No reason why he, or anybody, can't marry the person of their choice. :)

ReplyDelete"House" bromance makes the cover of TVGuide
So it's official: Nonsexual romances between straight men are inoffensive enough to make the cover of TVGuide, a magazine that back in the day was about as progressive as the Lillian Vernon mail-order catalogue.
Yes, the relationship between Dr. House (Hugh Laurie) and That Guy from Dead Poets Society (Robert Sean Leonard) is the topic of the weekly's lead story.
The interview itself is a curious one, with the guys discussing the close emotional relationship that has made their two characters so popular while at the same time downplaying how interesting it is. Check out the first lines of the piece:
TVGuide: Gentlemen, can this bromance be saved?
Robert Sean Leonard: [Groans loudly] Is everyone obsessed with homosexuality?
TVGuide: We weren't suggesting...
Hugh Laurie: No, no, let's talk about it. Wilson and House have an unusual relationship so you have to explore all the angles. It's not simple buddydom. House and Wilson clearly care about each other and even House has joked about it [House once blurted to former girlfriend Stacy (Sela Ward) that being gay would explain a lot about his own behavior: "No girlfriend, always with Wilson, the obsession with sneakers..."] But no, I don't think they're..."
Leonard: "Thank you. I mean, not that there's anything wrong with that.
Hugh Laurie: ...What we're seeing this season is vulnerable House really is. I think it's fascinating to watch House pursuing Wilson. He needs him, and I suppose he's revealed himself more than ever this year because he's so needy...One thing House needs Wilson for is vanity. He needs someone to laugh at his jokes. If a tree falls in the forest and Wilson doesn't hear it, does it stll make noise?
Nice save, Hugh. Throughout the article he definitely seems the more comfortable of the two in discussing the topic (Leonard actually compares their characters' relationship to Cesar Millan and his pitbull).
But really, is it a logical jump from bromance to gay? Doesn't the very term "bromance" imply heterosexuality? Close emotional relationships between straight men seem to be less laden with "gay panic" than they used to ... or outside of this interview they are, anyway.
Is anyone a fan of House and of this relationship? I'm curious to hear if people think that labeling it a "bromance" in any way implies that the characters are anything but heterosexual men who are fond of one another.

jake looks really hot , i must say !
ReplyDeleteReese is trying too hard. lol
ReplyDeleteI recall Ryan P's reported comment about seeing Jake and Reese together: it's bizarre!
ReplyDeleteWow, they went shopping and drank coffee. The Chin flew all the way to London to do the same thing she does every day. What is shocking is that Jake is actually smiling. But, could he stand any further away when they're walking side by side? Even when he holds her hand, he's still 2 feet away from her. They have the most unromantic body language for a couple who is "sooooo in love".
ReplyDeleteNice outfit, Jake. Glad you didnt put out yr eye. Just watch it, will ya?
ReplyDeleteThey are both trying too hard you sily fangirls, love how you always point her out, they are both phony tools. Jakey-poop must have been dancing around in joy when he found out Reese was coming for her usual weekend visits.
ReplyDeleteBTw, he looks like crap.
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteobjectively I think he looks great and happy.
ReplyDeletegood for him, london is a cool city
but subjectively i still don't like reese even if I for once find his look not so horrible lol
Reese looks like she copied the style of Michelle Williams or Maggie Gyllenhaal, except the afore mentioned women have better bods.
ReplyDeleteJake actually looks happy but he ain't too good looking anymore.
Compare :
ReplyDeleteAnti-Reeke events (ie. the unplanned spontaneous stuff that they can't control ) : multiple movies postponed by studios heads, arguments overheard in restaurants, self-sustained injuries on sets, parental break-ups, estrangements in family, pets fighting, film roles that don't come through
vs.
Pro-reeke events (ie. pr-created smoke screens and carefully planned distractions) : unbsubstantiated rumors planted on gossip sites or in trash magazines, shopping trips, vacations in exotic locales
This fauxmance is an exercise in mendacious, controlled chaos. It's a perfect example of what happens when you're closeted, lonely, ambitious and prepared to strip your life down to practically nothing in order to get what you want.
What did Ted call it? Oh yes, 'friends with benefits' (mutual publicity). I guess that you can tolerate getting screamed at in a restaurant and unintentionally scarring yourself when there's a big paycheck in the bank and you have little else going on in your life besides work.
Jake looks good.
ReplyDeleteReese's laughing looks forced and fake.

What's the phrase. Those smiles never reach their eyes. Enough said. I think this photoop marks the official start of her movie promo. Obviously the movie can't stand on it's own merits.
ReplyDeleteJake and Reese have the same coloured (orange) cell phones.
ReplyDeleteThe timing of those shots in IHJ is weird considering Reese was photographed running in LA on October 10. (I'm thinking the IHJ shots were taken earlier because I don't think Reese can be at two places at the same time, no matter how wonderful she is). ReplyDeleteblah blah blah blah blah
I'm still wondering how Reese was able to be in two places--on two separate continents--on the same day!
ReplyDeleteI think these pics were taken way back when Reese was seen at airport.
ReplyDeletethat is, before Jake tried to put out his eye in a moment of despair disguised as hilarity.
It's been very hot in London these past days. The winter clothes don't fit the date of the pics either.

"Body Of Lies" Opens Weak, Mauled By Talking "Chihuahua"
ReplyDeleteAn adorable talking dog remained just the sort of escapist movie hero audiences wanted after a week of awful economic news. Disney's family comedy "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," with Drew Barrymore providing the voice of the pooch, was the No. 1 flick for the second-straight weekend with $17.5 million, raising its 10-day total to $52.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"Beverly Hills Chihuahua" is the only light comedy in a market heavy on drama. Chuck Viane, Disney's head of distribution, said movie-goers may be turning to the perky pooch to help forget the market free-fall on Wall Street. "This is only word-of-mouth coming back to us from theaters. I don't have any statistical proof. But they're telling us we're getting more unaccompanied-by-children adults coming on their own. They're looking for a little entertainment," Viane said. "The axiom we've always lived by is funny is money. People come out for comedy. They love to sit back and let someone give them a couple of hours of escapism."
The weekend's No. 2 flick _ the fright film "Quarantine," which debuted with $14.2 million _ filled the escapism needs for the horror crowd. The Sony Screen Gems release centers on a contagion that turns an apartment building's tenants into flesh-hungry monsters. "It's probably the perfect kind of movie for today's climate," said Rory Bruer, Sony head of distribution. "Let's just get away from the news, from all that's going on, and go someplace else, and this is something that'll take you someplace else."
The marquee trio of Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe and director Ridley Scott had to settle for third-place with their terrorism thriller "Body of Lies," which had a $13.1 million debut. The Warner Bros. film centers on a CIA operative hunting the terrorist responsible for bombings around the world. "Body of Lies" may have dealt with too sober a topic after all the disastrous financial news, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros. "I think we ran into really difficult timing. The nation suffered such an economic loss this week that the mood of our audience was such that they were probably looking for a little more escapism than to see a movie on terrorism," Fellman said.
...
1. "Beverly Hills Chihuahua," $17.5 million.
2. "Quarantine," $14.2 million.
3. "Body of Lies," $13.1 million.
4. "Eagle Eye," $11 million.
5. "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist," $6.5 million.
6. "The Express," $4.7 million.
7. "Nights in Rodanthe," $4.6 million.
8. "Appaloosa," $3.34 million.
9. "The Duchess," $3.32 million.
10. "City of Ember," $3.2 million.
Leo will be more lucky with the flick with Kate Winslet.

Is this part of the job description of a "fan" - ?
He's looked like a man without a country since Rome.

ReplyDeleteJake, not pretending to be amused.
It's been very hot in London these past days. The winter clothes don't fit the date of the pics either.
ReplyDeleteOctober 12, 2008 4:14 PM
It started to be warmer on Oct 8. Until then, there was one week of cold, rain and a few hours of sunny.
Are they on Oxford Street or somewhere near Covent Garden?
Ryan's pictures with Abby were released on 10/10, the same day that these Reeke photos were *allegedly* taken? And Reese was in La on 10/10 as well? Is CAA's pr asleep at the switch? Is Reese so desperate for positive pr for her bomb of a film that she convinced pr to release old photos? God, what a pathetic bunch of idiots. Yet another pathetic pr stunt by a washed up actress and her gay escort.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Shepard was brutally murdered 10 years ago today by homophobic thugs. Think about it.
ReplyDelete4:42, clearly the photos are not correctly dated on IHJ (not Stephanie's fault). They were probably taken from the weekend Reese flew into London in September or perhaps last weekend (maybe that's when the Fox gossip columnist heard Reese and Jake arguing). But obviously she wasn't in London on October 10 unless she has a twin.
ReplyDeleteWhat about this weekend?
ReplyDelete"They were probably taken from the weekend Reese flew into London in September or perhaps last weekend"
ReplyDeleteMy guess is the former, not the latter.
Jake doesn't look good in those photos at all. He's no longer sexy or gorgeous. Does he look happy? Can't say from the photos. Reese's laugh is way too forced and fake.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Shepard died for daring to live his life openly and honestly.
ReplyDeleteTen years later we still get spoiled rich stars bearding because hey, you can never be rich enough, and Disney won't fork over the big bucks if you're gay.
Jake is a beyond pathetic. Every time he appear with Reese like this he is giving his support to the system that allows homophobic people in middle america to keep telling themselves it's okay to beat up and murder people for being gay. After all, being gay is something so awful you have to hide it at all costs. No one of any worth is gay, right?
I hope there's a special place in purgatory (or the Jewish equivalent, if there is one) for people like Jake.
Oh please 5:31. You're wishing what? A terrible afterlife for Jake? Why you're no better than those that murdered Matthew Shepard.
ReplyDeleteI believe people should be held accountable for their actions.
ReplyDeleteJudaism has little to say about an afterlife.
ReplyDeleteSwedenborgians (papa G) on the other hand, "We decide our own afterlife, choosing our own heaven or hell as we align ourselves with the loves we have affirmed in the natural world. If our love is solely selfish in this life, we will later abide with others of selfish motives. Just as we choose our own company and values in this life, in the afterlife we choose our destiny."
Poor Jake, he's fucked.
Rarely does sites like x17 post pictures of actors doing mundane things like jogging on the same day.
ReplyDeleteThe pics of Reese jogging in Brentwood were posed on that site on 10/10, no date given, they don't even say yesterday like they usually do, it just says jogging near her Brentwood home.
The pics of Ryan and the kids were posted on 10/10 but it says that they were taken yesterday, 10/9.
Most likely the Reese pics were taken then or earlier, they most likely didn't get that set directly from one of their phtographers, it wouldn't be the first time they got the dates screwy.
I was going to say the pics were taken last weekend when they were spotted there twice, but the pictures would have been released then.
It's a bit warm in London now and they look a bit overdressed, so who knows.
Interesting 5:59. And you are right, Jake is fucked because he sold his soul to get on the A-list. And if not in the next life, then in this life. Some day his boyfriend will tire of all of this, especially if there is a child to think of. Think his money will keep him warm at night?
ReplyDeleteJudaism has little to say about an afterlife.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Jake a Buddhist?
6:29
ReplyDeleteJake has said often that he considers himself Jewish.
Leonard Cohen who is actually a Buddhist monk, even considers himself "Jewish" -
Jake's mom being Jewish would make him and Maggie Jewish too, however I think Jake and Maggie were baptized, they have Godparents, so I think they were brought up Christian, but of course honoring the Jewish traditions. Jake is most definitely Matilda Ledger's Godfather. He couldn't be her Godfather if he was "Jewish", since Heath and Michelle are Christian. It wouldn't be possible.
ReplyDeleteReese has a really uh, unfortunate looking laugh. Her mouth reminds me of a trap!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the posters who say Jake's bearding is homophobic. He doesn't have to come out of the closet but bearding is disgusting. If he's in a long term relationship with Austin & has a child, it makes his bearding and his pathetic attempts to be 'Dad' to Reese's kids unbelievably deceitful.
Please, there's no "Baby Tile"!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know that for a fact, 6.47. And if you read my post I said 'if'.
ReplyDeleteWhy does baby tile bother you so??
It doesn't bother me but his/her existence is highly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteI have Jewish godparents and i'm Christian. You must be really old to still believe stuff like that or an anti-semite.
ReplyDeleteJake had a Bar Mitzvah and Jake's dad has said that he has not practised that Swedenbogen or whatever religion in ages. He considers himself a buddist like Jake and Maggie. They were not Baptized at birth since their father was dischanted with all Christian religions at the time, his words.
Most likely Jake is Matilda's celebrity Godfather, and i'm certain that she has a real one like Jake has.
Jake had a bris and bar mitzvah, so was not "raised" as a "Christian"
ReplyDeleteI doubt if any of these folks are especially "religious" and we dont know if Matilda was baptised.
Surely Jake was not.
As for Jake and Buddhism, he'd have to keep re-incarnating until "he got it right" -
Nobody that is bearding at his level would have a baby unlss he got some girl knocked up and sh didn't want it and he agreed to take care of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point of delibertly doing something like that unless you are Aiken: who came out and never bearded, but did deny being gay a few times or Ricky Martin who didn't come out but made he annoucement because he knew that something like that can't be kept a secret and that it's not healthy.
Men you decide to have babies are out, period. Ted is just feeding you what you wan to hear because most of his readers are women and they like crap like that.
Ted has noone to to account for: hes a gossip columnist, if he's lying then what are you going to do? Go after him with pitch forks LOL!!!
I doubt that any of the Gs are "practicing" Buddhists.
ReplyDeletePeter S. however speaks of himself as a practicing Catholic.
I saw Body of Lies today, what a good movie. Russell Crowe is the guy you love to hate, Leo is wonderful and looking more mature, and Mark Strong is incredible as the Head of Jordanian Intelligence. I guess I had seen him in some other things before, but he's wonderful in this, and his wardrobe is to die for.
ReplyDeleteNew Slash Couple: Roger Ferris (Leo) and Hani Salaam (Strong), especially when he calls Ferris my dear. Hawt!
Men you decide to have babies are out, period.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know that 7.04, because if they're not 'out' you wouldn't know about them anyway.
I just wish people don't speculate and pass it as fact and use words like 'period' when they don't know shit.
BT may or may not exist but it obviously gets some poster's panties in a wad. lol

ReplyDeleteHollywood stars still struggle with coming out
...
There is another show she is aware of, she said, that features an actor who will not talk about his children or his partner because “he doesn’t want to open that door.”
I didn't beleive in Baby Tile for a long time either, although I believed that they were trying with a surrogate, but Ted has made it pretty clear that there is indeed a Baby Tile now.
ReplyDeleteWhen this pictures were taken (last month, last week, ten days ago) is less important than that they're been released now. Pr is trying to show, once again, that Reese has a man on her arm (even a gay one), while her ex-husband is traipsing about with his ex-mistress/girlfriend and the two children he had with his ex-wife. Just like that stupid vacation to Cabo was timed to coincide with Ryan's last film.
ReplyDeleteReese could not be more pathetic right now. I'm just glad that Jake is not inconveniencing himself too much for her nutty pr stunts. At least he isn't running all over the world accommodating her whenever she's so desperate or bored that she can't even keep herself busy (you know, acting?). He is safely situated in London, and he isn't going anywhere. He's probably thanking god that PoP is being shot in Europe and Africa because he know that whenever Ryan appears on camera, she gets nervous and goes on attention-deficit alert. If he were here promoting Brothers, she'd probably drag him to ever single promo and premiere she could find just to get some free anti-Ryan therapy.
Of course, he's unbelievably pathetic himself, but at least he's working. He's doing more than simply whoring himself to the gossip rags.
^ I totally agree.
ReplyDeleteAmen, 11.23. Reese is still hung on Ryan..... LOL!
ReplyDeleteWho Will Be Oscar Nominated For Best Actress?
ReplyDeleteIt's only four months to the Oscar nominations (sorry, I'm a sick queen), so it's time to start separating the frontrunners from the back-of-the buses. Here come my never-too-early choices for the definite-probable-maybe nominees. And not to brag, but I'm usually about 80% right with this shit.
Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married. She made the self-indulgent drug mess seem utterly delightful!
Melissa Leo for Frozen River. The movie was a torture, but Melissa's a gem. This is her Half Nelson, sort of.
Meryl Streep for Doubt. Duh.
Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky. The feelgood performance of the year. She'll only be omitted if nominators forgot their Ambien.
Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road. Everyone says she's finally going to win--but then again they haven't seen the picture yet.
And of course don't rule out Angelina Jolie for Changeling (Looking for a kid is not exactly a stretch for Angie, but this is her bid for renewed credibility, so maybe we should just give it to her along with some fresh diapers), Nicole Kidman for Australia (Everyone wants Nicole to be hot again--especially her), and Marisa Tomei for The Wrestler (proving once and for all that last time wasn't a miscount).

ReplyDeletehuh..what 'bout michelle williams in Wendy & Lucy?
---
I have never been a big Hathaway fan, she always struck me as a petri dish mashup of Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts. However, I gotta admit, she rocked in RACHEL GETTING MARRIED.
But my prediction? She'll get shafted. Unlikable, uncharismatic characters--and Hathaway's Kym can be a real lulu--rarely get the Academy's attention. If they did, Miss Lili Taylor would have one to polish for I SHOT ANDY WARHOL.

ReplyDelete10 Things I Hate About This Idea
It was announced today that ABC Family is going to adapt "10 Things I Hate About You" into a weekly TV series that will shift the focus from Patrick's courtship of Kat Stratford to her sibling rivalry with Bianca. I'm not a huge fan of this idea -- mostly because every time I've seen "10 Things" on TBS since January, Heath Ledger's tragic death is all I can think about and worry the same will be true of the TV series. But since I love this movie more than my Sketchers -- which is just because I don't have a Prada backpack -- here are, in no particular order, 10 things to love in "10 Things I Hate About You."
1. Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles have so much chemistry I could swear Bunsen burners were used in making the movie. I also love how they also invented the least painful form of paintball ever -- basically a Benjamin Moore waterballoon fight. A service I searched high and low for back in 1999 to no avail.
2. It's amazing that with even less than 10 years hindsight it becomes so very clear how misguided we were as a nation when it came to prom dresses. I don't know if this particularly pepto gown was a Jessica McClintock but I do know that the two-piece trend first flaunted here was very well represented at my senior prom two months later. But the movie's climax -- complete with unrealistic appearance from a famous band -- did have one thing going for it: Julia Stiles' hair! Three of my friends tried, and failed, to copy this fabulous curly up do.
3. Who knew Julia had such smooth moves?!?
4. Ditto for Heath!
5. She may have had a handful of roles on TV but "10 Things" was the first time Gabrielle Union truly got to shine and announced herself as a star. So far, she hasn't disappointed -- Isis from "Bring It On" is still my fav role of hers though.
6. Chastity: I know you can be overwhelmed and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?
Bianca: I think you can in Europe.
7. The soundtrack
8 & 9 Allison Janney as romance novel writing Ms. Perky and Larry Miller as Mr. Stratford prove that the kids don't always get the best lines in teen movies. Papa Strat gets particularly good mileage our of forcing Bianca into an abstinence promoting pregnancy belly while Perky gave us all a vocab lesson with "tumescent."
10. Last, but certainly not least, this: [video]

"I hope there's a special place in purgatory (or the Jewish equivalent, if there is one) for people like Jake."
ReplyDeleteWho are YOU to judge people and play God? Shut up, you know nothing about the way God judges people after they die. You're full of hatred and I can't believe you would wish such things oh Jake on any other human being for that matter. God gave him a lot to start with: looks, talent, money and he'll certainly be asked to hold account for how he's used them in life.
"Jake's mom being Jewish would make him and Maggie Jewish too, however I think Jake and Maggie were baptized, they have Godparents, so I think they were brought up Christian, but of course honoring the Jewish traditions. Jake is most definitely Matilda Ledger's Godfather. He couldn't be her Godfather if he was "Jewish", since Heath and Michelle are Christian. It wouldn't be possible."
As others said already: Jake cannot be Christian, because he had bar mitzvah, which also means he was circumcised (brit milah). He might not be practising Judaism but according to traditional Jewish Law, a Jew is anyone born of a Jewish mother or converted to Judaism in accord with Jewish Law.
Who are YOU to judge people ...
ReplyDeleteWe all judge people all the time.

ReplyDeleteYes, but not by condemning them to hell
Think I've figured out why John Barrowman is so happy to be an out actor - his manager is gay. So nobody is telling JB that his career is DOOMED if people know the truth.
ReplyDeleteVid of John and his (gorgeous) partner out for dinner with his manager Gavin, and his partner.
John and his manager
Yes, but not by condemning them to hell
ReplyDeleteHumans can't do that.
John and his manager
ReplyDeleteAy, can't watch it at work.
Stop comparing Barrowman and Gyllenhaal. They are in completely different leagues.
ReplyDeleteSo what?
ReplyDelete"I doubt if any of these folks are especially "religious" and we dont know if Matilda was baptised."
ReplyDeleteShe was. Stephen G. accompanied Jake to Matilda's baptism. Jake is not her celeb Godfather, he is her real Godfather. FYI.
6:37, where did you read that? This is the first time I hear that? Did you make that up?
ReplyDeleteNo I didn't make it up. When HL Central still existed, Teresa, the owner, who knew Heath personally told us. She closed the site because she wanted to write a script or someething like that.
ReplyDeleteDuring the BAFTA press conference Jake said that it was an incredible honor to be Matilda's Godfatber and that he loves the little girl.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why some people are so sceptical, Heath liked Jake very much (actually according to Teresa he was crazy about Jake as a friend) that's why he picked him.
ReplyDelete"Stop comparing Barrowman and Gyllenhaal. They are in completely different leagues."
ReplyDeleteI'm not comparing them. I simply thought this blog would be interested in one of the very few out leading men on British and American tv. He's not that well-known in the US ut he's a house-hold name in the UK.
Tv actors have less to lose. That's true. However as more tv stars come out it will slowly start to have an affect on Hollwood. Not for many years but eventually.
Besides he's easy on the eye.
Teresa, the owner, who knew Heath personally told us. She closed the site because she wanted to write a script or someething like that.
ReplyDeleteIs there a chance to get HL Central back online as an archive?
Is there a chance to get HL Central back online as an archive?
ReplyDeleteIDK.
I'm not a DCF member, but I heard Teresa every now and then posts in Heath related threads there, so maybe if you are a member you can contact and ask her?
(I don't like the DC forum very much, so I deactivated my account some time ago (too much bias and censorship there if you ask me)..
I am. What's her DC forum user name?
ReplyDelete7:18, I bet he hasn't seen Matilda since the baptism (and maybe Heath's memorial in LA this year).
ReplyDeleteI don't know what her user name is, maybe also "Teresa". Someone on Heath's blog "fiveleaves" said she posted there. I'll go over and ask under which name she posts, I hope the person will give an aswer.
ReplyDeleteWhen I find out I'll post it here.
Some time ago (August?) there was a rumour about Barrowman getting the role of "Captain America" - imagine an american icon played by a gay man....
ReplyDeleteProbably this would sadly cause an uproar for the homophobic and religious community.
Theresa never said that Stephen G attended a Christning for Matilda with Jake, why would his father attend.
ReplyDeleteThe only time religion came up with her is when she was posting there in '06 that she saw Jake and his father attending Mass. People were confused because both were thought to be Buddists.
There were some on the DC forum and still are that were bothered by Jake's Jewish heritage so it came up.
I think the G's are probably more spiritual then anything but Jake has sadi that he feels more jewish than anything else.
There were some on the DC forum and still are that were bothered by Jake's Jewish heritage so it came up."
ReplyDeleteWhy does that NOT surprise me?
Yes 9:02.
ReplyDeleteI think there was Swedenborgian liturgy or music at funeral of Stephen G's mother. Think I read this on Cantera (crosses self and repents) blog.
9:02 AM, did you ask Teresa? I definitely read that Jake was accompanied by his father. I don't make this stuff up.
ReplyDeleteI was e-mailing Teresa at the time because she was getting a lot of shit from some DC posters regarding Jake and Heath and how well she really knew them.
ReplyDeleteYour read wrong, she posted that she saw Jake and his father attending Mass. If she actually said that Jake's father attended a christning for Matilda t would have been all over the place, especially after Heath died.
Unless his father was a godfather as well, there would be no reason for him to attend. The godmother, Busy Philips yes but not Stephen.
So you are eithe remembering wrong or making it up, something DC posters do a lot.
I still have Theresa's e-mail, I will contact her.
Your read wrong, she posted that she saw Jake and his father attending Mass.
ReplyDeleteIf I remembered wrong, I want to apologize. I was convinced they went to the christening together.
Mass, you probably mean Heath's music label. I see.
9:58, I'm not a DC poster btw.
Sorry for spreading wrong information, I really was conviced about it, but it seems I read or remembered wrong. :(
^Or you meant a Mass not the music label Mass.
ReplyDeleteI'll give up, I read all this stuff 2006, maybe I confused some things.
No intention to stirr trouble, I really was convinced about some stuff.
Ok, moving on.
Ten Years Later
ReplyDeleteMatthew Shepard died ten years ago today, six days after being beaten by two men and left clinging to life on a fence outside Laramie, Wyoming. He will not be forgotten.
Barack Obama released a statement today with regard to the somber anniversary:
"Today, we pause to remember the heartbreaking and senseless murder of Matthew Shepard. A freshman at the University of Wyoming, Matthew was a young man committed to fighting for equality and changing the world around him. He was tragically taken from us far too early, an innocent victim of an abhorrent hate crime, and never had the chance to see his dreams realized.
"In the ten years since Matthew’s passing, Congress has repeatedly and unacceptably failed to enact a federal hate crimes law that would protect all LGBT Americans. That’s not just a failure to honor Matthew’s memory; it’s a failure to deliver justice for all who have been victimized by hate crimes, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. All Americans deserve to live their lives free of fear, and as Americans, it is our moral obligation to stand up against bigotry and strive for equality for all.
"Today, Michelle and I send our thoughts and prayers to Matthew’s parents, Judy and Dennis, and to all whose lives have been touched by unconscionable violence."

ReplyDeleteDoggy Death in Iraq?
ReplyDeleteWe're big animal lovers here at the A.T., which is why it pains us like crazy to see pooches treated so poorly. Utterly unimaginable conditions in Iraq, if you even want to think about it, and one soldier came across a puppy while on duty there. Sgt. Gwen Beberg named the adorable dog Ratchet, cared for him and even sent updates back home, where Ratchet grew his own fan base back in the U.S. So very Tinkerbell Hilton.
When it was Beberg's time to fly home, the military refused to let her doggy return with her, since soldiers are prohibited from befriending animals overseas for some insane reason. They took the precious pup, and everyone's afraid the animal might be shot, execution-style.
Any animal admirer out there can sign the petition to save Ratchet, or donate to Baghdad Pups. Hey, PETA, where the ef are you? Still insulting the Olsens? This is something you should be all over, pronto. And to every dog-lovin' celeb we dished about a few days ago, hope you're hearing about this horrible treatment. Truly disgusting.
Awful Truth
Ted is the best. :)
ReplyDelete...soldiers are prohibited from befriending animals overseas for some insane reason
ReplyDeleteArmy doesn’t need soft, emotional soldiers.
I never heard of such a thing, I have heard of animals being brought home all the time, and dogs have a history of helping soldiers in the military. Some of those comments are inane on Ted's blog - whey do we have to choose one or the other, why can't we help both people and animals, especially since dogs and other animals have been domesticated by man and have lived together for centuries? Should have left them be if you don't intend to be committed to caring for them. These crazy ideas that man is somehow better than animal, when they are the same, another lie proliferated by religion and dogma (pardon the pun) are ridiculous and need to change. It's always the same silly argument and excuse as to why we neglect animals. Sometimes man is worse. Hooray for Ted for always telling it like it is.

Cosmo Elects Johnny Depp Sexiest Man in the World
ReplyDeleteCosmopolitan (I'm assuming the British version because Gordon fucking Ramsey made the list too) says that 21 Jump Street star Johnny Depp—who's also in movies—is the hottest male on earth. Usual suspect George Clooney is runner up. And (what?!) Jake Gyllenhaal comes in third place. Gyllenhaal? Like, from Bubble Boy? The rest of the list after the jump. Spoiler alert: Manshark Michael Phelps didn't make the cut.

Jake made #3 on the list before he was pictured with Reese - he just plummeted to 4,302, right after the guy down the hall from my office. Whenever he's next to her, she neuters his attractiveness. ;)
ReplyDeletePlease post down the hall, on the left guy's picture :)
ReplyDeleteLOL - I saw guy down the hall him first. ;)
ReplyDeleteTrolly if you're going to criticize people at least get your facts straing. Just because Jake had a bar mitzvah and is of Jewish descent doesn't mean he can't practice Christianity or even convert, if so inclined.
ReplyDeleteYou also clearly don't understand the difference between purgatory and hell.
Funny how you seem to think I have no right to want to see someone pay their dues for bad behavior when I'm sure there are plenty of fan girls who would condemn someone to hell just for acting on their homosexuality. Check out the Aiken sites if you don't believe me.

Palin Declines To Acknowledge "National Coming Out Day"
ReplyDeleteGov. Sarah Palin has declined to issue a formal proclamation recognizing "National Coming Out Day," in Alaska. Heartened by Palin’s positive comments about gays and lesbians in the Vice Presidential Debate, Alaskans Together submitted a formal request to acknowledge the day, which is observed on Oct. 11 internationally by members of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered) communities and supporters.
"But I also want to clarify, if there’s any kind of suggestion at all from my answer that I would be anything but tolerant of adults in America choosing their partners, choosing relationships that they deem best for themselves, you know...," said Gov. Palin during the debate.
"Governor Palin called for ’tolerance’, and we hoped she’d show that type of leadership as Governor with this proclamation," said Alaskans Together President Marsha Buck. "Coming out is a difficult and deserves recognition."
So far in October 2008 Governor Palin has issued proclamations for: "Careers in Construction Week," "10th Annual Christian Heritage Week," "Biomedical Technician Week," "Alaska Taiwan Friendship Week," "World Farm Animals Day," "Breastfeeding Awareness Month," and "Grand Opening of Rilke Schule Day."
"We were asking for the Governor to acknowledge and recognize the dignity of openly-gay Alaskans. We weren’t asking for a policy position, beyond simple acknowledgement." Buck said.

ReplyDeleteJust say no: TR gives another $50k to fight Prop 8, PLUS a sneaky donation from a "magician" leaves us guessing
Over at Geek Central, the fun never stops. We've been trolling the rolls at the California Secretary of State's website to see who's coughed up big bucks for No on 8, the effort to stop voters in the Golden State from overturning this year's historic court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage.
Since we last updated you:
> T.R. Knight gave another $50,000, bringing his combined total to $100,000 Brad Pitt levels of awesome.
> Suze Orman (#24 on Out's 2008 Power 50 list) gave $10,000.
> Jon Stryker (#39 on Out's 2008 Power 50 list) gave another $200,000, bringing his total to more than half a mil. And he doesn't even live in California.
> Perez Hilton even ponied up $1,000.
But our favorite has to be the donation shown above, $2,500 from one "Neil Harris" of West Hollywood, California, who identifies his occupation as "self-employed prestidigitator." What is a prestidigitator, you might ask? Why, it is someone who engages in a sleight-of-hand, often by juggling or utilizing other magic. A jester, one might say, amusing the court with a look-over-here-no-over-here wink and a smile.

The Jake fangirls at the DC forum seem not to like that Jake may be gay and that he has Jewish blood.

7:18, I bet he hasn't seen Matilda since the baptism (and maybe Heath's memorial in LA this year).
ReplyDeleteI also think he hasn't. Whether he's her real or celeb godfather. He's too busy with "Reeke" whether real or fake.
Leo and Bar
ReplyDeleteI don't know if she's a beard but if she is, she's a good beard. Ambituous little model. He needs her for career reasons and she him even more so for career reasons. And she doesn't make him look like a wimp on top of all that.
Nonsense, Jake isn't too busy with reeking.
ReplyDeleteHe's working a lot, but, as we found out, he can still make time to visit NYC while in UK. It was easier when he was in New Mexico and South Carolina.
4:31, Who did he visit when he was in NYC? I thought he went to CT to see the Newman family but then there was that tidbit from the frisky site following that weekend how Reese busting Jake for getting it on with another guy.
ReplyDeleteSo who did he bang in NYC? That's the INTERESTING story not the phony Reeke crap.
I like Bar because she's Israeli (I'm half-Israeli--my mother is a Sabra). We all think it's very cool that Leo is dating a Sabra.

ReplyDeleteAnnie will be pissed off! lol
Who did he visit when he was in NYC
ReplyDeleteMaggie, Naomi, Chris, Austin (filming in North Carolina), naughty NYC boys, ... a lot of possibilities :)
So who did he bang in NYC?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe, just maybe, he visited his sister, Ramona and Matilda (who live in the same neighbourhood)?
I'm sure he visited his sister (I think) but he probably banged a guy too. You can do both on a weekend.
ReplyDeleteHow soon you all forget me!!
ReplyDeleteJustin, you are unforgettable.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how, even if most people believe Jake is Matilda's celebrity godfather, no one thinks he pays visits to her when in NYC? He said it was an honor being chosen as her goodfather and some fans still think, now that her father is dead, Jake doesn't give a fuck anymore?
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was down for some time, not because of being with Reese, but because Heath died, whom he obviously liked a lot?
^Jake's not heartless for God's sake.
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like the latest photo-op pr stunt went down like a thud in the DC /Reekers community. Maybe it even flunks the authenticity smell test with them.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if :
1. The photos were taken before the restaurant spat
2. The photos were taken before the self-scarring episode
3. The photos were carefully coordinated with the paps, and timed to coincide with Ryan's photos
4. Reese organized this stunt, not Jake.
5. Jake is desperate to distract attention away from his personal and professional problems, but he's sick of the pr stunts. Reese, on the other hand, absolutely loves this stuff.
Thanks, sweetie (winking). So when am I going to see you again?
ReplyDeleteAs soon as possible Big Boy.
ReplyDeleteAn Open Letter to Ellen DeGeneres
ReplyDeleteAn Advocate.com exclusive posted October 11, 2008
Editors' note: According to the California secretary of state's campaign finance records, as of last Friday, Ellen DeGeneres -- like some other gay celebrities -- has not donated to the campaign to beat Proposition 8. Her publicist didn't return calls seeking comment.
Dear Ellen,
I watched you on Jay Leno the other night. I have been a fan of yours for a long time, long before you came out. I remember watching your show on ABC when it was called These Friends of Mine, before later being renamed Ellen. When you were on Leno, you spoke eloquently about why marriage equality matters to you and why you are so frustrated at the sheer amount of money being spent to support Proposition 8 -- now over $25 million.
As you said, "There are so many people who need money right now, and if you are raising millions of dollars, give it to those people, because you don't need to promote hate."
I agree, Ellen. It would be nice if the Catholic Church or the LDS Church were to redirect the millions they are giving to take away our right to marry to just and loving causes, but that is not the case, and frankly, no appeal will change their minds.
The only real appeal we can make is to ourselves. Will we match them dollar for dollar? Currently, our answer to that question is no. The Los Angeles Times recently reported that the opposition has outraised us by almost two to one, and the effect of this is being seen in the polls. We are down, and if things don't change soon, we will lose.
The lesson we must remember is that freedom isn't free. It never has been. Whenever freedom is won, it is purchased through time, energy, sweat, blood, tears, and yes, money. Our founding fathers knew this; those who marched from Selma to Birmingham knew it too; and in the 30 years since Stonewall, our community has experienced this time and again.
That is why I was shocked to learn that you and so many other gay and lesbian celebrities have not personally given to the No on 8 campaign. Why is this? You make tens of millions of dollars a year. You and Portia recently got married. Surely you know how important keeping that right is to you and your family. If we are to win, we desperately need your financial support.
As someone who has donated to No on 8, I ask you to give. I gave $500, and for me that is a lot. I am a graduate student who faces student loans and credit card debt, but I donated because I know how important marriage equality is to our future.
So please, Ellen, as a fan, as a member of the LGBT community, and most important, as a donor, I am asking you to give now and give generously to No on 8. You know as well as I that we must not lose what we have finally won.
In hope and victory,
Jacob Reitan

The DC posters are mentioned here because they post here a lot. The ones that are uncomfortable with Jake being Jewish are the GWM that are log cabin rethugs.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the fangirls on DC and GB are Jewish so the anti-Semtisim isn't coming from them.
I doubt that either a fight or a on set accident occurred. If the pics are a fews weeks old then Reese is still in London according to this:
"My friend said she saw Reese and Jake out in London the other day and they looked sweet together. But she's probably lying".
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/28748220.html?page=2#comments
That was posted today, so the other day would be either Friday or Saturday.
Jake and Reese have the same PR, so they both arranged this, they both have shit-eating grins on their faces.
The pic aren't a dud, it's the usual amount of sqeeing on the Jake sites and places loke ONTD, Popsugar, etc.
I also have a feeling that the pictures were planned and happened awhile ago, and that the fight was real.

Neil Sean: Reese Witherspoon Thinks Her Man Is Unsupportive
LONDON — Not one to gossip, but are Reese Witherspoon and man-child boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal having problems?
I sat near the couple at a coffee bar on London's Marylebone High Street, and let's just say that Jake was getting a right-ear bashing for “not supporting me on this.“
Quite what it was I never found out, but they left without speaking to each other. ...

Thanks a lot 5:44PM.
ReplyDeleteThe "man-child boyfriend" comment made me lol.
There was no fight, it was a PR plant to set up these pictures. There were 2 sightings last week of them in London: one in Heat magazine where they were all love-dovey, then a few days later a gossip creep from Foxmsaid that he overheard her saying that he wasn't being supportive on something, he sat silent and they both left the cafe silently. Didn't sound like a fight but a GF nagging and the BF looking like a wuss.
ReplyDeleteEither way both sightings were BS unless she has been in London for over two weeks, and yes I believe the pics were taken on 10/10, someone on ontd says that a friend saw them in London over the weekend, this weekend, no reason to think they made it up.
I can't believe you don't smell a PR set-up, google them today and all the blogs have the pictures and refer to the Star and Fox story, she flew in to London right on cue, no wonder they are grinning.
no reason to think they made it up
ReplyDeleteNo reason to believe it either.
Didn't sound like a fight but a GF nagging and the BF looking like a wuss.
ReplyDeletePerhaps that's what it actually was?
Bar really is gorgeous and has a fabulous body IMO. Whether it's real or not, she and Leo look good together. Anyone would look good next to her. ;)
ReplyDeleteReese just doesn't seem right for Jake, in so many ways, but I'm hoping everything we've heard about his character is true, and not just image, and he's really shallow and just hung up on status. :(
Matthew Shepard is a hero. Jake Gyllenhaal is a coward.
ReplyDeleteMatthew Shepard is a hero.
ReplyDeletePoor guy. I think murderers and people who rape kids should be punished with death all over the world. Sorry for sounding politically incorrect, but that's my honest opinion. We live in a mostly gross world.
and he's really shallow and just hung up on status
ReplyDeleteShouldn't that be "he's not really shallow..."?
No.
ReplyDeleteYou hope Jake's "really shallow and just hung up on status"? Huh?
ReplyDeleteYou misunderstand - I meant that I hope he isn't hung up on just status and is shallow. I have nothing against Reese, if they are a couple why not just come out with it? The fact that they don't just makes it look like the mystery is beneficial for them, and yes, you can have an argument in such an arrangement.
ReplyDeleteYou've got both women and gay men on DC that are 'phobes, conservatives, and a few, at least, uncomfortable with Jake's claims to be "mostly" Jewish, which, actually, acc'g to Jewish law, is an understatement.
ReplyDeleteOld or young, these folks are finding that once the fundybrain bullies moved in to clean up the site, and succeeded, it's awful quiet over there.
Reese is an Episcopalian, who believes that every time she takes communion she becomes more like Jesus Christ. If Jake "marries" her and her children, Im really gonna quit him.
It annoys me alot that they're pulling PR stunts, I should have quit him a year ago.
I see 6:30 PM.
ReplyDeleteI think you are the only one who thinks that "the fact that they don't just makes it look like the mystery".
Until they are quoted as saying they are together, or an engagement is announced, these are nothing but a series of staged photo-ops. "The other day" is purely subjective and could mean anything, two days ago to one person, a week and a half ago to another, or yesterday. To keep interest up, a "spat" is leaked, then what looks to be a reunion, just to keep interest up. It is very annoying, the stunts and vagueness, he's above all this, or should be. I'm gonna quit him too, if it continues. I can't see another film of his affecting me like BBM anyway, and all that clearly is in the past now.
ReplyDeleteGirls are great.
ReplyDeleteTwo articulate young women from Alaska hand Palin her ass...
You really think Jake cares one way or the other if some of us WFT2posters will quit him?
ReplyDeleteI think we're all intelligent enough people here to know that he doesn't give a fuck. LOL.
He's a rich Hollywood star with, I think, a bright future ahead of him. And we are a bit pathetic being so obsessed with stars.
I'm quite obsessed with stars, I'll admit, that's why most of my RL friends mock me.
It's hard to quit obsessions, maybe not so hard quitting Jake.
But since he's an obsession of us...
You really think Jake cares one way or the other if some of us WFT2posters will quit him?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone suggest anything like that?
No, I'm quite certain he doesn't care, but it makes a difference to me, what I think. I really don't care what others think. I don't know about a bright future ahead of him either. I tend to think BBM will be his pinnacle of success. And some HW stars don't even have that much, so it's still a big deal.
ReplyDelete7:12, who knows, PoP may turn out to be a big blockbuster movie.
ReplyDeleteHe may have box office successes, but as far as artistic success, it's hard to beat the best, BBM.
ReplyDeleteAnd why such a focus on his relgious background? I have to say I'm embarrassed as a fan to read some of what sounds very close to anti-Semitism. The Jewish religion and Jewish culture are some of the most beautiful in all the world, and it's a lovely part of him. Personally, I feel all religions are different people's way of looking at the same concepts, depending upon what part of the world you are from, they have many things in common. That is why my beliefs incorporate something from them all. That said, if he would turn his back on one of the most beautiful things about him, for success and Reeke, I would be at a loss for words. :(
Do I think Jake cares what I feel? o yeah really. what kind of a moron are you anyway?
ReplyDeleteif I quit Jake it will be for my own personal benefit and well being - not to "punish" some celeb I dont know.
very peculiar comment and view. no wonder your friends make fun of you.
very peculiar comment and view. no wonder your friends make fun of you.
ReplyDeleteOk, if you think so. LOL.
if I quit Jake it will be for my own personal benefit and well being - not to "punish" some celeb I dont know.
Very wise comment. ;)
Girls are great.
ReplyDeleteTwo articulate young women from Alaska hand Palin her ass...
^^^^ WoW, Could these girls be more Direct?!? LMAO I totally agree with them. They talk more about what happened in Wasila then most know about. Of course it's there take on things, but ITA...
"If the fight was real, it means they are for real, too. "
ReplyDeleteThat is completely circular.
Do people really think that only couples fight? People who are in business together fight too, especially if they want to take the business in different directions. The fight could be made up, or they could've been fighting over their contract.
ReplyDeleteAs for ant-Semitism, I agree that there are some out there who don't like the fact Jake is Jewish, or try to play it down. And the fact that Jake supposedly likes blonde beards bothers me tremendously because it is of course designed to play well with the suburban mom crowd, and they wouldn't be happy with someone too "exotic" or too "Jewish".
8:41 pm. I'm not sure I agree with you about too exotic or too Jewish. I remember the mags and fangirls going wild during the brief Natalie/Jake phase.
ReplyDeleteThough I wonder what they think if Jake hooked up with someone like Angelina Jolie!
I agree that all the photo ops and rumors about drifting apart, blah blah is to keep them in the public eye. But, why do they need to be in the public eye? to sell their movies. If at the end of the day people are not interested in watching their movies, they will not be box office hits. The majority of the public don't care about all these silly publicity stunts....if the movie is no good, they'll not watch it. Anyone, Rendition?? One was briefly A-list during BBM the other won an Oscar 4 years ago and is fast becoming known as a one hit wonder.
ReplyDeleteThe DC forum has changed a lot recently (the last few months). It used to be a more mature, educated and sophisticated group, generally speaking. However the jake is not gay group got so nasty and was endlessly arguing their point so the mods imposed some censorship rules that drove the core group away. Not the same place at all anymore. Newcomers here who have not been following Toothy for years don't have the full picture, and someone looking at DC forum today would never know what they missed.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that a movie revolving around a chihuahua has been number 1 at the box office for the past two week says it all. After all, how many magazine covers did you see those dogs on?
ReplyDelete" Do people really think that only couples fight? .... they could've been fighting over their contract."
ReplyDeleteAnd what about the third alternative : they are sick of this fauxmance and they are starting to get on each others nerves? Gay men and straight women get along fabulously but a charade this complicated can drive any one batty. Even shopping isn't enough to keep Will and Grace together forever.
I think there is tons of evidence that Jake, Reese and their PR teams are re-examining the long-term viability and professional utility of this fauxmance. He has his franchise and big paycheck, and his self-esteem seems to be returning. She has had a gay male escort on her arm for the last year, and she's probably ansty to find a real man who can satisfy her ... um... needs post-Ryan.
He isn't returning to the US to promote Brothers this fall, which makes him less available for her frequent pr stunts and and anti-Ryan cleansing exercises. Her movie career has effectively stalled and she's probably ansty to get back into the game full-time. Exactly how much longer is she expected to nursemaid him? And god knows his family is a mess; that might pre-occupy him for the next few months.
Anything, including crass manipulation of fan-girl sympathy triggered by rumors of 'problems', is possible, but we should not discount the possibility that someone, somewhere in Reeke/Disney hell, is re-evaluating this arrangement.
Sorry to dissapoint you, but this will go full on for awhile or they wouldn't have done the London stuff. His family can take care of themselves, hes a grown man and he has moved on.
ReplyDeleteThe renting a flat in London is true, they have been looking. The planted PR bull about poblems were done to set up the next phase: marriage in MV, that's the chatter.
This is not ending because they don't want it to end, period.
Fans are important, because fans pay for the tickets.
ReplyDeleteI do think Jake and Reese will get married in the nearest future and will have a child. What happens next, nobody knows. If you really, really, really don't like them together, you'd better quit now or it's going to be hard.
ReplyDeleteVery well put 11:03. Also, the balance of power was bound to shift at some point. In the beginning Disney dangled POP and could lay down lots of rules. Now they have so much film in the can, and money spent on the project, if Toothy/Jake starts to act like himself, what can they do about it.
ReplyDelete11:49 exactly what are we supposed to quit. Expressing our opinion that jake is gay and it's a fauxmance? Did you not see earlier that jake already has babytile.
The idea that these two will get married is as nutty as the idea that this fauxmance will end anytime soon. If you *really* believe this, then you've been reading too many gossip rags, and nothing about the mechanics of bearding in contemporary Hollywood. This is not 1950. Marriage is not necessary for the charade to work.
ReplyDeleteCorporate re-evaluation of the fauxmance is completely consistent with its continuance.
The tactics of the fauxmance will change, but the fauxmance will continue as long as it serves their interests. But messy reality is intruding more and more into this nightmare, and that is what corporate/PR are factoring into the arrangement.
We were bamboozled about their London arrangements before (separate bedrooms, who wants what and when, Reese 'suddenly moving out' etc.) before, and we were flam-flammed when they just *happened* to take a vacation to Cabo when Ryan's last film cam out.
This is one big pr mess, and there is no reason to believe that these tactics will end in the near futire, but reality is getting in the way of the master narrative, and PR is losing its effectiveness.
Leakages and fights are both real and unmanageable, and they weren't happening before.
Something has changed.
I believe when Jake and Reese get married, the angels will weep with joy from the heavens and their sweet, tender tears will fall down to the earth, kissing our lips with the tactile sensation of everlasting happiness.
ReplyDelete12:03: You don't think Disney has that covered? Thye can do plenty about it, it's call a contract and we can all imagine what's in that contract.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that will be shifting is Jake and Reese into marriage. What people don't realize is that this is mainly Jake and Reese driven, their PR is actually not involved as much as some think.
Lainey did say somehing that was correct: Jake and Reese use the paps when they want to, at first i thought she was talking just about Reese but then I realize she was talking about both.
Jake can't afford to drift back to '06 and before because it's not just Disney that is watching. And I hate to break it to you but half of Dastan is Jake's stunt/body double. Pop is due out in 2010 and that Moon Proj, movie is turning into a kids movie via a script rewrite.
I was struck at these pics because they were a bit different, they both looked happy and smug and full of themselves and they are.
Reese was the life saver that was thrown him and you can be damn sure he ain't going to throw it back, he worked too hard for it.
12:07 stop clutching your pearls, there were "fights" before. Last October before they went to TIFF for Rendition, "sources" reported to Us that they had a big fight and that they were not talking to each other and the relationship had "cooled" and they were headed for a break-up. Well you know what happened after Rendition PR ended and Rome. It was a PR plant, just like the nagging that Jake wasn't supportive crap, more BS.
ReplyDeleteA reporting of a fight on set of Brothers reported by an extra, a report that they were cool to each other a t a cafe and barely spoke to one another, both earlier i the year, so no nothing has "changed".
So weather those reports are true or false, it's hardly new. And don't forget the 100 times they broke up last year becasue she wasn't ready and neither were the kids and we see how that changed.
Reese was the life saver that was thrown him and you can be damn sure he ain't going to throw it back, he worked too hard for it."
ReplyDeleteShe absolutely WAS his life saver and as a Jake fan, I'm so grateful to her not only for Jake's eternal joy but for mine. Watching their bliss I derive a vicarious feeling that transports me to nirvana. It's so uplifting I can barely stop my eyes welling with tears. Jake and Reese FOREVER!
Are you saying Disney is so powerful they can have him killed. Oh, you mean he'll never work in this town again. FYI, I think Mr.DeMille is dead. If you have so much inside info about Reeke, identify yourself to substatiate your allegations.
ReplyDelete"Reese was the life saver that was thrown him and you can be damn sure he ain't going to throw it back, he worked too hard for it."
ReplyDeleteLOL 12.28!
Don't forget Jake was Reese's life saver after Ryan dumped her and she didn't want to be seen as desperate & dateless.
Willing to bet the farm, the castle & chateau that Reeke will not even get engaged let alone get married. Hell, they can't even say they are a couple out of their own mouths after what? 2 years of playing hide & seek? LOL
Exactly 12.58 after filming finishes, Jake might not come out of the closet but hopefully will realize the damage the bearding has done him and dump the Chin! (uh, not to mention the mouth!)
ReplyDelete10:23, 100% accurate summary, many thanks.
