Well, I think that Jake had something going with Austin, but it's over. I think it ended summer 2007. Remember last summer Austin got arrested for DWI in Colorodo or somewhere and then Jake spent the entire summer in MV. I'm thinking that's when they broke up for good. I also still think that Chris is his best friend and fuck buddy. Interesting that Chris has been in Europe since end of August-about the time Jake got back to London. Also, if you look at that pic of Chris w/Greta in Rome cooking school, doesn't look like they are a couple. If they were, they would be standing next to each other. Chris could be further away from her and almost looks like he's trying to hide in the pic.

Maybe. Jake was practically MIA the whole summer. Few LA Reeke photo ops, few MV paparazzi pictures and that's it. At least that's how I remember it.
I also think that Jake and Austin were a couple but that Austin ended it because he couldn't handle Reeke. I think Jake tried to convince him that Reeke was necesary when he spent the first week of April 2007 visiting Austin on the JFC set, biking with him and going out to dinner with him. After that we saw then together at the bookstore and then a month or 2 later Austin stopped wearing the ring.

^^ I felt this right from the start. Don't think Austin was ready for the rumors at all. I think Jake could have handled it. My opinion is that they are both bi, Jake was willing to give it a try (like Lindsay) especially with the high and success of BBM. I know I'm a minority on this, as most seem to think Austin was the one willing and ready. I don't think so. I think Jake pulled back because of Austin's reluctance so Jake was lost and had to deal the rumors on his own. Thus the photos of constantly being alone, then new friends Matt and Lance. This was probably put together by managers / PR though. Then a putting together of J/R. Most likely by PR. I think they are real though. I also believe that Chris and Jake were more than best buddies in the past. I think best buddies with benefits, and they will still be close even if the benefits are not there anymore. I believe most of this because I believe they (Jake / Austin / Chris ) are bisexual.... They all had girlfriends!

Film Envisions Fantasies of a Gay Teen
Were the World Mine is a new gay film by writer/director Tom Gustafson which plays out the fantasies of a struggling gay teen over the backdrop of a high school in a close-minded town. The show's main character Timothy, discovers a love potion while playing Puck in a Midsummer Night's Dream and begins to turn the town gay.
It's been playing at film festivals but plays in Louisville on October 31, and opens in New York, S.F. and L.A. in November, and other cities after that. Haven't seen it, but the just-released full trailer looks sweet.

This is not exactly a revelation: even before her Oscar-nominated turn in “Brokeback Mountain” brought her to wider attention, her work in films like “Dick” and “Me Without You,” not to mention as the most interesting member of the “Dawson’s Creek” ensemble, made it clear she was going places.
2008 looks to be something of a watershed year for Williams, in which she has made clear strides towards identifying the independently-oriented performer she wants to be (the awkward paycheck job of “Deception” notwithstanding). Not content with holding her own in the dazzling “Synecdoche, New York” ensemble, she has, for the first time, taken on front-and-center roles in two very challenging projects.
In “Incendiary” (reviewed here), Williams impresses by remaining focused when the film falls apart around her; happily, in Kelly Reichardt’s sad, spare and altogether beguiling “Wendy and Lucy,” she has found a project with the discipline and intelligence to match her own.
I wouldn’t normally begin a review by foregrounding the star to such an extent, but the truth is that Williams’s performance is both integral to, and responsible for, the film’s success; without the silently expressed complexities, the shadows of days past, that she brings to the character of Wendy Carroll, the film would amount to little more than a sketch, a landscape as unmoored as its protagonist.

Her sun-kissed, all-American looks washed out in favor of a dark, hack-sawed crop and drab corduroy cutoffs, Williams strikes a very different figure on screen here to anything we’ve seen from her before. But the changes go beyond the cosmetic.
Her attention to physical detail is something to behold: from the loping, gangly walk, to the childlike eagerness of her fingers as they curl around a new possession, Williams uses every part of her being to express Wendy’s statelessness. The voice, when it does come, is equally bruised and tentative, as if out of practice in an interpersonal context. Only when talking to Lucy does she sound alert and conversant.
It’s a heartbreaking performance, one that could (and should) attract awards attention if enough people see it. More importantly, however, Williams’s work is absolutely of a piece with the film, as varyingly intense or understated as each scene demands; no line or gesture feels self-seeking or over-thought. She has the confidence to raise questions and leave them in transit, much like the film itself.
As in all the finest road movies, “Wendy and Lucy” does not treat restlessness as a condition to be cured. By the end of this troubling, beautiful film, we’re no closer to knowing what fate Wendy faces, or what she really wants, whether from Alaska or from herself — but we carry as much hope for her as we do fear.

Both Reese and Jake are in a very special and difficult time in their carrers.
After the divorce Reese was no longer the "girl who has it all" and her movies weren't exactly a hit. Split issues,kids to take care of,a millionare business to run, it's too much to handle even for an A type Reese.No time to meet a man and the tons of problems of starting a new relationship.
Jake wants to be a star NOW and wants fame and a solid place in the business, having a GF or a BF takes time and commitment and maybe he is no ready for that yet,his carrer is his priority at least for now and a couple of years more until he can become a real HW player.

Being a sucker, I always give Jake the benefit of th doubt and tend to the view that the bearding is so he can have a real relationship with another guy (probably Austin). What a celeberity / film star allows to be shown to the public is very controlled and projecting the Reeke image must allow for all manner of things to happen in the background. Maybe Jake (and Austin?) decided that they didn't want their relationship to become a circus and also taking account of the likelihood of an 'out' Jake never getting the parts he wants (there's nothing wrong with being ambitious), hence te decision to beard up for a period. Yes it means that Jake has to spend quite a bit of time with Reese, but doesn't everyone have to spend time with work colleagues, some of whom you like, some of whom you don't.

Finally, some good news to share this sad week. For all you animal lovers out there, li'l Iraqi pup Ratchet was finally reunited with his owner.
As we barked to you a few weeks ago, U.S. soldier Gwen Beberg adopted the doggy while she was on tour in Iraq, after saving the poor pooch from being burned in a pile of trash. Lovely. About the same end comes to so many discarded animals in this country, but that's another item in this bitchy blolumn, we suppose.
When G.B. was deployed from the country, Ratchet was forcibly kept behind by the military, since it's a big no-no to befriend animals while on tour. Killing folks is encouraged, 'course, and certainly no kindness to critters is permitted, damn straight. But with the help of Baghdad Pups and more than 45,000 people signing the online petition, including some do-gooding A.T. readers, dog and owner were brought back together. It's refreshing to hear some sweet stuff sometimes—we need more headlines like this, eh?

Q:I have been reading about a movie version coming soon of the 1974 novel by Joe Haldeman: The Forever War. Not only are we lucky that it is it to be directed by Ridley Scott, but also a subplot that has to do with the government of Earth encouraging homosexuality. Does the Monkey feel they will cut this very different view of homosexuality out to make it more appealing to vast audiences? – RonSalon, Buffalo, NY
A: Scott is, of course, the director of two sci-fi classics, Alien (1979), which is sublime, and Blade Runner (1982), which is impressively atmospheric, but ultimately a mess of a movie (with or without the much-maligned studio-added narration). As a follow-up to those two movies, Scott had intended to film Haldeman’s award-winning 1974 novel, but the rights haven’t been available until just recently.
The Forever War concerns a conscripted soldier who goes away to fight aliens and returns, via the relative nature of time during space travel, to find a very different earth than the one he left behind (not unlike the author’s own return from Vietnam as a soldier to find an America very unlike the one he had left). Sure enough, homosexuality is now encouraged by the “world” government to combat over-population. The military he is still a part of and fighting alongside now consists of almost all gay men.
"I first pursued Forever War 25 years ago, and the book has only grown more timely and relevant since," Scott told Daily Variety of the anti-military tome. "It’s a science-fiction epic, a bit of The Odyssey by way of Blade Runner, built upon a brilliant, disorienting premise."
First, keep in mind that this movie is still very early in the development process; a script has not yet even been written, so the project may still never see the light of day. But if it is made, will the “gay” sub-plot be left intact? The Monkey’s guess is that, given Ridley Scott’s penchant for provocative material and the importance of the gay element to the plot, it will remain in the movie in some form, although probably not dwelled upon.

Ted is the greatest; I love his story about Ratchet being brought home, and the truth about unwanted/discarded pets, and his thoughtful post about Julia and Jennifer Hudson. This is why I don't think he'd be making up the TT story. He might not be 100% correct, but I don't think he'd make it up, and I think he'd admit if he were wrong.
