Doctor Parnassus: Why hello pussycakes. I’ve been expecting you.
Toothy: I’m actually calling on behalf of a friend who’s…having issues.
Doctor Parnassus: Of course you are. You are wise to contact me. Those who play the game do not see it as clearly as those who watch.

Doctor Parnassus: Relax, cherub, close those mournful eyes, free your memories…
Toothy: I remember … I remember when I lost my mind. There was something so pleasant about that place.
Doctor Parnassus: Ah yes, even repressed emotions have an echo in so much space.
Toothy: When I was out there, I didn’t care. Because I was out of touch. But it wasn't because I didn't know enough. I just knew too much.
Doctor Parnassus: About your friend?
Toothy: Yes, I know too much. Does that make me crazy?
Doctor Parnassus: Possibly.
Toothy: Probably?
Doctor Parnassus: Oh lovemuffin. I hope your friend is having the time of his life. Otherwise, I’d tell him to think twice, that's my only advice.
Toothy: I used to do … whatever the voices in his head told me to. Then… one day he said, come on now, who do you think you are?
Doctor Parnassus: Ha ha ha, bless his soul! He really thinks he’s in control?!
Toothy: He does. He says I’m crazy. He says we’re crazy. And that’s he’s running the show.
Doctor Parnassus: Honeybaby, in two words: im possible! Peruse the paradox. In dissociative identity disorder, the ego maintains repression without knowing the repressed. Knowing without knowing. But here, we have knowing with knowing! Of course, the alter ego's coping mechanisms allow superficially normal functioning. But primal repression of bi-ambiguity coupled with intermetamorphosis ultimately leads to depersonalization and dysphoria. Ergo, eventually, loss of control.
Toothy: Bi-ambiguity? You mean 85% straight and looking for beer?
Doctor Parnassus: Well, as one my most loyal patients, Woody Allen, said, "Being bisexual doubles your chance of a date on Saturday night." Let me put it this way: It is what you do when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it. It’s nothing 20 years of therapy won’t fix! Doctor Parnassus: I am out here, lamb, but he who can analyze his delusions is called a philosopher. Exempli gratia: Which is better for your friend, eternal happiness or a peanut butter cup? It would appear that eternal happiness is better, but in his mind, this is really not so. After all, nothing is better than eternal happiness, and a peanut butter cup is certainly better than nothing. Therefore a peanut butter cup is better than eternal happiness.

ReplyDeleteLast time I looked, this wasn't a Jake fanblog, or a Heath fanblog. Aren’t there enough of those? I thought this was Waiting for Toothy 2, a loose and nicely bent place that’s about ... identity, truth, and the Hollywood way, as filtered through the life and times of Toothy and associates. If stuff about Heath helps to illuminate that, in a positive OR negative way, seems very legit to post it.
If WFT becomes nothing but Jake, it will be boring. It needs a villain (Reeeese), a flawed heroic figure (Heath), a dream (Austin), comic relief (trolls?), all and whatever elements that make a story worth following. I guess the wish of some here is for Jake to be the hero, full stop. Time will tell what Toothy does. But you can't become a hero without suffering slings and arrows (er, critical posts, the most interesting kind). And since this is Waiting for Toothy, Jake's not a hero yet...

Who here liked Reese Witherspoon before she hooked up (or whatever that is) with Jake?
ReplyDeleteI liked her up until that Oscar speech of hers. She came off so fake and annoying. I don't think she's a bad person, but she seems very self-centered and image obsessed. She strikes me as the type of person who'd be difficult in a relationship, high maintenance, you know? But I don't think she'd cheat on her partner, she doesn't seem to be a slut or night life kind of girl. I do think she's pretty, not beautiful or attractive, but pretty and well groomed.
I'm not a Ted C. believer, but I noticed there seems something off lately. I think Jake isn't that much into her anymore and I think a break up isn't very far away. And yes, I do believe they pimp out their relationship for PR reasons. I think Jake likes attention as much as Reese, that's what they have in common.
Reese used her non-existent marriage for the "happy" family PR (Oscars) so this fauxmance is no surprise. She's not attractive, interesting nor talented - her PR image is her most important asset.
ReplyDeletePerez and Wentworth: What Do You Think?
ReplyDeleteLove him or hate him, you have to admit that Perez Hilton has done an amazing job carving out a (fake) name for himself. His entertainment blog is the "go to" site for people like me who can't get enough of Misha Barton's cellulite or the Denise Richards/Charlie Sheen feud. But what's really set Perez apart is his willingness to "go there" when no one else will, whether it be calling babies ugly or pressuring celebs to come out of the closet.
This last topic was the subject of an interesting vlog he posted yesterday. At the 2:00 minute mark, Hilton observes how differently he is treated when he "outs" people vs. how the mainstream press seems to get a pass when they "report" on someone's homosexuality (case in point - Lindsay Lohan). Perez is no dummy - he makes some interesting points, including the different standards applied to outing gay men vs. women.
But then Perez goes there, and I mean REALLY GOES THERE, talking specifically about Wentworth Miller of Prison Break at the 3:40 mark: "Wentworth Miller...is a homosexual." Yikes...no pussy-footing around that. And that's not the half of it -- he goes on to say more about Miller, but rather than repeat, you can watch it here. Now, even though I get the point Hilton is trying to make in his argument, I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable with the statement he makes.
You'll remember Hilton was the impetus that convinced Neil Patrick Harris to "come out" to People magazine. When the topic was raised with Harris during a recent interview with Howard Stern, Harris said, "He (Perez) was sort of on a witch hunt to out me. He started posting things saying 'If you've ever fooled around with Neil to please send pictures.' He was really trying to get some scandal going. So rather than have to respond to that, I'd rather just respond to the topic at hand." When asked if he'd ever confronted Perez on the issue, Harris was diplomatic. "Well it's a tricky subject because people decide they want to be out in the open whether in a public forum or in their family at their own time. But Perez is from a generation that feels like (being out) is a non-issue. It's offensive to him when people don't declare that, because in his world, it's always been a part of who he is."
That's very diplomatic of Harris, but what does Wentworth Miller think about being the target this time in regards to his sexuality? I guess we'll have to wait and see, but what about you? What do you think? Are you comfortable with Hilton and others "outing/reporting" on closeted celeb gays sexual preferences and activities? Would it be a double-standard not to, or should celeb gays be extended the courtesy of coming out on their own terms given all the discrimination they will have to deal with in its wake? Let us know your thoughts below.

'Jake was under the balcony, so it was really hard to see his character most of the time but I did see him during breaks. Jake was texting and he also asked about the horse race yesterday. At the end of the day, Jake was helping Tracy, James, and the gang with their lines and he even made the little girls laugh (as well as me). There's a line in the movie where, I think, some people say 'You monster' to Jake's character and they couldn't get it right and Jake starts yelling 'You monster' in funny ways. The director told him to stop making everyone laugh (at that point it was 12:30 in the morning and i know the girls were tired so I thought it was great how Jake, Tracy, James were interacting with the girls and making them laugh). Jake was wearing the exact same suit he has been wearing and they were all wearing the same outfits.'

ReplyDeleteNEW YORK - The New York City Opera commissioned Charles Wuorinen to compose an opera based on "Brokeback Mountain," the 1997 short story by Annie Proulx that became the basis for a 2005 movie that won three Academy Awards.
The opera is scheduled to premiere in spring 2013, City Opera said Sunday. It will be City Opera's second Wuorinen premiere, following "Haroun and the Sea of Stories," which was based on a Salman Rushdie novel and opened in October 2004.
"Ever since encountering Annie Proulx's extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that Gerard Mortier and New York City Opera have given me the opportunity to do so," Wuorinen said in a statement.
"Brokeback Mountain" is a cowboy romance about two ranch-hand buddies who start a homosexual affair when they meet on the fictional mountain in 1963.

The incident with that Maria full of Grace chick happened in January of '05 a few months before Jake and kiki got back together at the VF party during Oscar time where supposedly Maggie told Jake not to do it after he announced that he was going home with Kiki.Her drug use was pretty well known and maggie didn't want her brother back with her again according to rumors.

According to sources, Jake and Kiki got back together in '05 around March during awards time, Jake was oveherard arguing with Maggie about going home with Kiki, it was some after party.

The Venice Film Festival was in August/September 2005, she was there with him. Anne Hathaway said her boyfriend gave Maggie G. a tissue after watching BBM at the premiere and she shared it with Kiki.

The most likely reason for that is that they all are a bunch of lying phonies in Hollywood and Jake is certainly one of them. Whats the expression those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I bet here are many many glass houses in Hollywood.

DreamWorks Pictures has hired newcomer Dan Mazeau to rewrite an untitled action film about lunar colonization that is slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Doug Liman (Jumper, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, The Bourne Identity), who will direct the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg (Along Came Polly). Black Hawk Down author Mark Bowden revamped that script.
Now Mazeau is on board to try to bring it in for a landing with a different take "based on an original story by Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg." Former Paramount co-president of production Alli Shearmur will produce with writer/producer Kinberg and Liman. Dave Bartis is executive producing. Up-and-coming scribe Dan Mazeau has been hired to redraft the action film about lunar colonization that is slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal. Doug Liman, who will direct the film, wrote an original screenplay with John Hamburg ("Along Came Polly"). "Black Hawk Down" author Mark Bowden revamped that script.
Now Mazeau is on board to try to bring it in for a landing with a different take "based on an original story by Liman, Bowden and Simon Kinberg," according to the studio. Former Paramount co-president of production Alli Shearmur will produce with writer-producer Kinberg and Liman. Dave Bartis is executive producing. Mazeau, who is repped by the Gersh Agency and Circle of Confusion, last month turned in his latest draft of "Jonny Quest," a live-action adventure based on the animated '60s Hanna-Barbera TV show created by Doug Wildey. Warner Bros. and producers Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Dan Lin are eyeing the resourceful, globe-trotting youth as a potential new franchise character.
Last year, Mazeau's momentum was triggered by the sale of his family-film spec "Land of Lost Things" to Paramount Pictures' Nickelodeon Films. Kopelson Entertainment and Bad Robot exec Sherryl Clark are set to produce.

I had a person in my own family call my father before calling the paramedics when someone appeared to not be breathing. My father had to call the paramedics. People panic and don't always use their brains in emergency situations.

painkillers: OxyContin and Vicodin, the anti-anxiety medications Valium and Xanax, the sleep aid Restoril, and the sedating antihistimine sleep aid Unisom.
I understand he suffered from insomnia and depression, anxiety, but what did he need painkillers for?
If you take a look at pictures of him months and weeks before he died he mostly looked unhappy. I don't think he was doing well at all.
Two scenarios: Either he took the painkillers to get high and didn't know that mixing them with the other medication was lethal, or he knew exactly what he was doing.
The girl ... doesn't even seem the least bit affected.

ReplyDeleteOn his fansites most of his fans seem to like Jake and Reese together and it could end up in a fight if you suggest that maybe there's something off with them and mods are very strict there... here are more different opinions allowed.
The illegal drugs are still just rumors, I wouldn't be surprised if he used illegal drugs at some point like most of the celebrities do.

The illegal drug rumors could have prevented some colleagues or "friends" from saying something and being associated with him at this point though.

If Jake wanted to be low profile and decided not saying anything is the way to go, this wasn't helpful, because in electronic and print media they kept mentioning how Jake still didn't say anything.

5:14 PM I think it's safe to say that his silence was deliberate but I wouldn't call his behavior low profile at all. That’s what I find disgusting, not necessarily his silence.
ReplyDeleteHe looks a little tired in that pic. I wouldn't have thought twice about MKO until her recent, curt comment in Vanity Fair about the incident. It's like she couldn't even say something about it, just cut the interviewer off at the pass. She could protect her privacy and still have said something that showed she had some feelings about what happened. And surprise! - now we hear she's going to rehab. I don't know what Heath's problems were, but if she were any kind of friend of his, she'd have done something and not just covered her own skinny ass. That's way worse than anything Jake may or may not have done, IMO. He wasn't there - she was. Of course, we'll never know what the real story is.

I think this totally hits the nail on the head. I don't even think it's personal, Perez just sees him as easy pickings. He's not a Jake or Tom Cruise who has the backing of enormous studios and contracts coming out of their ears. He's a relatively well-known TV actor who's popular but lowkey and doesn't throw his weight around. That, and lack of many (if any) safety net of highly-paid advisors, agencies, and aides with lawsuits, will be enough to entice Perez to keep at him.

ReplyDeleteMe neither, but for a private guy like Heath to talk about his insomnia problems with a reporter from the N.Y. Times is strage. I read he also hung out with older people in a N.Y. park, playing chess with them. I really hope he had people around with whom he could have talked, perhaps he had, but didn't want to?
This is so frustrating. I really feel so sorry for this guy. Gone forever with only 28. :(
Now people think Perez gets paid to keep his mouth shut. If true in addition to the great traffic his blog has, he must be a rich man.

ReplyDeleteI agree, just when you think you've dealt with it, something happens to bring it to mind, and you feel all the unfairness, all over again. I still want to see TDK tho.
Jake's fans do not think Reeke is real, IHJ and Babbler fan girls may, but that's about it.
ReplyDeletePerez picks on Wentworth because a close friend of his dated Wentworth for quite a while. Perez knows for sure he is gay and he did not like how Went treated his friend by keeping the relationship hidden. So, its a bit personal. He has stated all this on his blog.
If Jake's silence about Heath was ACTUALLY silence I wouldn't have minded. But since his PR decided to give People magazine that ridiculous "Jake's pain is worse than everyone elses!" spin I DO mind. No matter if Jake was actually close to Heath or not, I found that spin so offensive. Like how could Jake's pain be worse than Heath's family? I wonder if they're going to spin the same "my pain is worse than anyone elses which is why I had to do photo ops with Reese instead of attending his memorial service" PR when the Brothers promotion begins.

ReplyDeleteITA 9:57PM, but I'm betting that when he does Brother promos, he have it pre-stated no questions about Heath, like he did with the no questions about Reese with Redition promos. Also, every single person who worked with Heath gave a comment about him, even if Jake would have said something minimal-great guy, good friend,etc-no one would have paid him any mind at all. By staying silent, he's bringing more attention to himself.

ReplyDeleteNot really. Ben Stiller's romcoms have never done all that well, Crowe's last two films were terrible, and as I read in EW the other day, Reese hasn't had a big romcom hit since 2002. Katherine Heigl has apparently replaced her as the new 'romcom queen' on the A list.
I agree with you, 10:12 pm, plus to quote the Washington Post, Katherine Heigl is seen as fresh and charming to men and women while Reese is seen as "cold and calculating."
