In this special, we are joined by celebrity guests like David Byrne, Tony Award Winner Andre De Shields, Natasha Lyonne, Annaleigh Ashford, Richard Kind, and Jake Gyllenhaal from the movie Zodiac. The result is a collage of Broadway-caliber showstoppers, comedy sketches for all ages, meditations on the unknown from children and adults, and a papier-mache volcano. It’s funny, musical, joyous, anxious, and surprisingly profound.

  42. Marvel's Tom Holland pays adorable tribute to Spider-Man co-star Jake Gyllenhaal "#husbandgoals"

After establishing a bromance on the set of this year's Spider-Man: Far from Home, Tom Holland has paid tribute to co-star Jake Gyllenhaal on Instagram.

The pair might have done battle on the big screen – as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Quentin Beck/Mysterio respectively – but Tom and Jake's real-life friendship is plain for all to see in this new upload, as the former wished the latter a happy birthday.

Alongside an image of the pair kicking back and having a laugh together, Holland wrote: "He's the Mysterio to my Spider-man. Happy birthday mate. #husbandgoals"

This adorable snapshot has since inspired a whole host of comments from fans, with 'Señorita' singer Shawn Mendes even replying: "Wow this is a cool photo."

Another Insta fan was a bit less measured, declaring: "Tom I Am Going To Cry You Can't Just Post Things Like This I Am Not Emotionally Stable Enough For This Kind Of Content." Meanwhile, Jake previously joked with Digital Spy that his co-star was "a real pain in the ass" while making the Spidey sequel.

Absolutely loved John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch. It's brilliant.
2 takeaways: I want to meet André De Shields, have a long conversation with him and then get a hug. And Jake Gyllenhaal might be one of the funniest people alive (he steals the show).
    So well done @mulaney

    ReplyDelete
  55. ... As “Mr. Music,” Gyllenhaal crashes in near the end of the special with a press-on mustache, and jacket that doubles as a xylophone. “I’m here to teach you about music!” he cries, eyes wild. He refuses a child’s offer of a clarinet (“Put away your skinny trumpet! Instruments are stupid!”) before launching into a jaunty calypso tune about how there’s “music here, music there, music, music, everywhere!” The only problem is, nothing he uses to demonstrate that fact — whether a pudding cup, leaky faucet, or fancy toilet — ends up making any sounds at all. Mr. Music’s ensuing breakdown is one of the most purely bizarre things on TV this year, period, and Gyllenhaal embraces the downward spiral so thoroughly that his mustache comes flying off by the end.

“It was pretty clear what [Mr. Music] was and that he would just be struggling,” says Mulaney of the writing process. “[But] until Mr. Gyllenhaal came in, the level of breakdown he was going to have was uncharted.”

(Later, when Gyllenhaal asked Mulaney who else they wanted to ask, Mulaney assured him that he was their “first choice in a world where we couldn’t have Harry Belafonte.”)

This number, unlike every other one in the special, had to be performed and recorded live as Gyllenhaal careened through over a dozen vignettes of failure. “It was really by the seat of our pants,” says Bolin — plus, given the premise, “if there’s any sound anywhere, you have to start and go back.”

But Gyllenhaal was so committed to the song and persona that it all came together, anyway. “When a great actor commits himself to comedy, and I say this very a reluctantly as a comedian‘s not a great actor,” adds Mulaney, “it’s funnier than any comedian could ever be. Every take he made a different choice, and the first one when he was pulling notes out of the air and we were like, ‘This is the funniest thing we’ve ever seen and we’ve worked with many, many comic talents.’”

Eventually, the kids help a bedraggled Mr. Music relax and have some fun, despite his frustration (and several ridiculous injuries). Their final singalong turns a potentially sour experience into something joyous and hopeful, confirming that “John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch” is one of the year’s the strangest hours of television, with one of the biggest hearts.

  72. It has been reported that Academy Award-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal will produce and star in an upcoming big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home.

According to the report Gyllenhaal will portray Bruce Bechdel, father of the author and protagonist Alison Bechdel, and will produce the film through his production company, Nine Stories Productions. The Tony Award-winning director of the original Broadway production, Sam Gold, is set to helm the project.

Fun Home is a musical adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic memoir of the same name. It introduces us to author and cartoonist Alison Bechdel at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family- her mother, brothers and volatile, brilliant, enigmatic father- that connect with her in surprising new ways.

  82. Fun Home is the show that managed to bring audiences to tears night after night during its run on Broadway at the Circle in the Square theater. I remember seeing the show by doing standing room, and I just stood up at the top of the theater and cried as I watched Alison Bechdel’s life unfold before me. And now, Jake Gyllenhaal is set to bring the story to life with his production company while starring as Bruce Bechdel (Alison’s father).

Here’s the thing about Fun Home: It’s going to be very hard to adapt for film. The show, which was performed in the round, is very much centered in a somewhat bare set as the story itself brings to life Bruce Bechdel’s home and Alison’s work. So, how is that going to work as a movie while going back and forth between the three different Alisons?

Set in the Bechdel Funeral Home, the musical cuts back and forth between Alison’s life as a child to her coming out in college, and all of it is narrated by an older Alison Bechdel, who is drawing cartoons of the story she’s telling. Throughout it all, Alison is learning about herself throughout her life while realizing (after the fact) that her father is gay but not out.

    ... S P O I L E R S ...

To be honest, if the movie found a way to bring the magic of the bare stage presenting the necessary set pieces from “nowhere” and didn’t have to change the story into something linear, I’d be happy. Going back and forth between all three of the Alisons while showing her own discoveries along with her father gives a weight to the story that I think is necessary, so it’ll be interesting to see how they manage to bring it to life in a new way and keeping that weight to the film.

All this to say I’m very excited about a Fun Home movie could be, and I hope that it’s something that brings justice to the beauty of the stage musical.

Wow. I haven’t checked out Tooth’s social media much for the last several weeks bc well...hiatus.

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile ·3h
But right now, Tooth’s twitter search, which has been garbage since his Fall2019/Holiday2019/Winter2020 Hiatus started, it’s like a This is Your Life right now. An All-Star presentation of 2019 memes and robots.

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile · 3h
They’re all there. A trip through memory lane with Tooth for not only 2019, but the last several years. Memes from his social media team who feel they have to stuff his search w/tweets from phony accounts

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile · 3h
Most of them have to be phony bc all of the fans who loyally followed him all these past years, they know that OMG and now M&M and I - we’ve been right. We’ve been right all this time. They know it bc you can see it.

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile · 3h
You can’t have followed him & his man all this time and not have seen all of the changes. Even though we have a plethora of valid clues/sightings/tweets/FB/Instagram’s to prove we’ve been right, all you have to do is observe. They know it.

    ToothyTile&GGoose @GoosesTile · 3h
He’s been lying to them all these years, just like we know it and realized we were and still are being huge-time lied to. And so those old-timers, ones who were for real, they’ve all disappeared like dust.

Michelle Williams Sends Sweet Message to Daughter Matilda After Win at SAG Awards 2020!
Michelle, who is currently pregnant with her second child, thanked fiance Thomas Kail and Matilda at the end of her speech. “Tommy, like everything else in our life, I share this [award] with you and Matilda,” she said. “It’s one thing to be completely honest as an actor — it’s another thing to be completely honest as a human being.” “And that’s just who you are and how you live, and you teach me just by being you,” she added. “I love you and I’m coming home.”

She reminds me of Tooth in that in the beginning, they do all they can to avoid the misrepresentation. Even looking uncomfortable. But it gradually gets easier and easier until they reach that OTT, in-your-face, what’re-you-gonna-do-about-it stage.

She, Tooth, and their deceased common bond co-star all shared/share the same publicist, did you know that? Huge clue that the deception dates further back than people realize. #ohyes #thethingswefindout

I said it last night but I am the luckiest boy in the world to have had @levelforwardinc
, Troy Carter, Jake Gyllenhaal & Riva Marker, and @gregnobile producing @SlavePlayBway.
They are the reason a young black man making his debut got a producer credit and a seat at the table.

  107. Rufus Wainwright: Everly Brothers Duet Rufus and Jake
Got to sing one of the classic Everly Brothers songs with the amazingly talented and musically gifted @jakegyllenhaal last night. So happy and grateful! Jake also did a beautiful version of Poses! What a soul!!!

  108. We do not wish to delay you. If you clicked on this article, it’s because you read that headline and then all other thought left your mind, replaced by a fervent need to watch Jake Gyllenhaal and Rufus Wainwright sing a song by The Everly Brothers, together. So here you go.

That sadly short snippet comes courtesy of Jake “Mr. Music” Gyllenhaal himself, and it’s from the Rufus Wainwright edition of Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, which took place on Wednesday, January 22. It is possible that even those of you who tuned into John Mulaney’s marvelous Sack Lunch Bunch special might be surprised by exactly how good a singer Jake Gyllenhaal is, and if that’s the case, it’s because you’re not a hardcore musical theater nerd. Have no fear, for this writer is exactly such a nerd, and she has examples to share.

First up, here’s Mr. Gyllenhaal singing a really, really hard song from Sunday In The Park With George, a role originated by Mandy Freakin’ Patinkin:

Here is an obvious but invaluable bootleg (really, several bootlegs) from a concert version of Little Shop Of Horrors, in which Gyllenhaal starred alongside Ellen Greene, the original and eternal Audrey:

Here he is singing “Maria” from West Side Story, which he also sang at Lincoln Center as part of an event celebrating Leonard Bernstein:

    And here’s Mr. Music.

So yes, the man’s got chops. As for Rufus Wainwright—well, he’s Rufus Wainwright, what did you expect? He’s also set to release an as-yet untitled album sometime this spring—his first since 2012—so consider this a reminder that when it comes out, it will almost certainly be well worth your time. And who knows, maybe Jake Gyllenhaal will sing on it somewhere.

"From last night: @gustavodudamel led an epic concert of Mahler and Schubert with guest soloists Michelle Deyoung and Andrew Staples! Once the concert ended, there was 62 seconds of silence before the audience applauded. If you don’t believe us, ask #JakeGyllenhaal!" via @nyphil

  110. In today’s reason that despite living in a swirling vortex of doom, maybe existence isn’t that bad, actor Jake Gyllenhaal and singer Rufus Wainwright sang The Everly Brothers and it said: “Gay rights!” Taking to New York City’s Lincoln Centre on Wednesday, the pair performed “All I Have to Do Is Dream” together.

Anyway, you clicked this story for one reason and one reason only, and that is to swoon over Gyllenhaal as the law itself dictates we must do. So here is Jake Gyllenhaal and Rufus Wainwright singing. Swoon away!

The performance was part of the Lincoln Centre’s ongoing ‘American Songbook’ concert series, which “highlights the unique ability of the human voice to convey natural emotion and express a universal and personal story,” the series’ website says.

While the clip the Brokeback Mountain star shared was rather short, more footage of the duo singing – this time with Wainwright in a leopard-print tailcoat – started popping up all over Twitter.

For those still craving more of Gyllenhaal’s singing chops, among other things, the 39-year-old is set to play a closeted gay father in an upcoming film based on the Broadway musical, Fun Home. It will be his third major gay role since Brokeback Mountain and the Netflix thriller tale, Velvet Buzzsaw.

However, if you’re still in need of more of singing Gyllenhaal, here’s a video of him, heavily bearded, belting out “Finishing the Hat” from the Stephen Sondheim classic, Sunday in the Park with George.
