ReplyDeleteGyllenhaal produced the movie, in part because he loved the melancholy nature of the story, in part because he had a chance to help good buddy Paul Dano, directing his first movie. The two are very close and are good friends with Mulligan — in fact, Gyllenhaal met Dano at Mulligan's wedding (the two actors also worked together on Okja and Prisoners, and Gyllenhaal and Mulligan costarred in Brothers).
"I met Jake through Carey, so I knew both of them, and I knew they really wanted to work together. But that only takes you so far, because we all know what making a movie entails, and just to ask as a favor, it's too much work. You look at what Carey does [as Jeanette], for instance, she's just so all-in. She's messy on screen in a way that she's never been before. In fact, we talked about that. Her performances are sometimes dialed back in the edit, but there were none of those kinds of restrictions on this role," said Dano, who showed the movie at the Philadelphia Film Festival last month. "And, Jake, when he read it, it just hit home for him. We got on the phone and just talked about family for 90 minutes. It just stoked something in him, and that was obviously a great asset to me."
Gyllenhaal was also all-in.
"I'd started a production company to make projects like this, that really studios don't make anymore. And Paul came to me with this script, and it was just a perfect fit. I was sort of looking for this new adventure, and this seemed like the right thing," said Gyllenhaal, who is also friends with Dano's partner Zoe Kazan, who cowrote Wildlife.

ReplyDeleteHe is old enough to see thru her behavior, he likely just doesn’t care because he has a young woman who worships him so it’s a trade off. She took down the more obviously pictures already, I’m sure he was behind it so he feels she’s controllable. I don’t think they will go official like red carpet, not unless they are together for a few years and she’s a little bit older so he avoids backlash for her being so young. I think a 37 year old man shouldn’t date someone college aged, but this confirms to me that he likely has issues because there are plenty of women in their late 20’s and 30’s who are suitable for him.

In 2015 (see Howard stern interview) he talked about how he has people he “sees” for sex/hook ups and “dates”, but he’s not in love with anyone. He said he takes out his go to hookups out on real dates. I think it’s clear that they have some sort of relationship and she’s probably thinking it’s more serious than it is and is dropping hints to prove it’s her “man” to the naysayers making claims that she’s delusional and doesn’t see him romantically. I don’t think he’s in love with her, I think if he was then he wouldn’t care about backlash or social media commenters so he wouldn’t hide her or ask her to take down pictures.

ReplyDeleteWho said that I was shocked by anything? I remember his comments clearly because I have a good sense of audio recall so I know who said what and when during the interview and it pertained to the subject being discussed so I mentioned it. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteHe obviously has casual sex and I do believe he’s having sex with Jeanne. Whether it’s casual or serious, I don’t know, but also I don’t care. I do think it’s sleazy to be 37 and having some relationship with someone 22 because of the maturity and power imbalance. And I say that as someone who is in his age group and have family members in college. It’s really odd and can be unfair to the young woman who is out of her league as far as dating, maturity, fame and power. But she may not see that until she’s much older.
I do not think it is anything serious, he doesn’t treat his hookups like hookers. I’ve been following Jake for a decade and this isn’t the first time he has done this exact same thing. Remember if this mysterious strange Jake fan that recognized this very unknown generic model hadn’t of posted who she was then no one would know any of this. My point is how many times has this happened but no one sees it or hears about it? Is this the first time he has been seen with model types or just women? NOPE. If I had to guess I would say it was her or a close friend putting her name out there to tip people off to give her exposure in her modeling career. It’s like Leo Dicaprio thing, if they are trying to get ahead in modeling then it has to be when they are still young and if you’re hooking up with an A-lister then you use it to also advance your career. Because she has to know this relationship has an expiration date, but the career can be boosted from it while enjoy current perks of being “girlfriend” without being a real girlfriend that the A-lister is in love with. Both parties benefit from it and his side is someone to hook up with and have as company for dates that he can (or thinks) is trustworthy to not go to media like a full blown attention seeker. He strikes me as someone highly private to where he might be a little paranoid of unknown models so if he has them sign NDAs that wouldn’t be shocking to me either. I think he does this often, he is just discrete and their names don’t get out because most are allegedly girls in regular jobs outside the entertainment/model industry.

Luca Guadagnino was originally going to direct but due to scheduling changes he was being told he needed to start production sooner than planned. I read an interview with Luca and he said at this point in his career he doesn’t have to be rushed or forced to make a film when he isn’t ready so he bowed out.
