Jake Gyllenhaal may be in one of the most cosmopolitan and cultured cities in the world, but he is fast turning himself into a wild man.
The 33-year-old was almost unrecognisable as he wandered around Rome, Italy, on Sunday.
Usually wearing his facial hair in a five o'clock shadow at most, the star was instead sporting a very bushy beard and long hair, which he tied back in a bun.
Wearing a pair of simple tortoiseshell sunglasses, the Hollywood actor was just another face in the crowd.
It was not until he took a break, sitting down on the curb and pushing his sunglasses back on to the top of his head, that it was even possible to tell it was the Academy Award nominated star.
With an Italian-looking woman showing his around town, Jake seemed like a local as the mystery brunette relaxed in the sunshine and walked through the cobbled streets.
For this tour of the town, the Brokeback Mountain star appeared to have taken his style inspiration from 1940s aviators, wearing a classic airman's brown leather shearling lined jacket over a plain white T-shirt with khaki pants and rubber snow boots.
Jake's earthy feel and wild look is, however, not just a fashion decision but rather part of the actor becoming his role for upcoming film Everest.
