New Showmance - It’s Official

December 1, 2010

With movie Love and Other Drugs and new album promotion still on, Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift officially started showmance promotion by posing for Us Weekly.

2,137 comments:

  1. The comments are extremely negative and almost all saying they are fake.

Some comments are funny: "From Joe Jonas, to Lautner, to Gyllenhaal. She's really moving up on the bearding totem pole. Impressive, Swifty, very impressive...next step George Clooney"

Man oh man, this pair is like manna from heaven for the snarkfest that is ONTD
(but, tbh, it's a little sad seeing Jake as the laughingstock)

Jake asked for it, one can beard without doing paparazzi photo shoots.

    "Jake & Taylor In Love!"
Here, you'll find the complete story of Jake and Taylor's romance. Literally. Six pages of coffee-drinking and sidewalk strolling and laughing and oh my god we are so happy. We suspect that the reason they keep having coffee dates is because she's not old enough to drink. Anyway, the story is so detailed you will want to stick a fork in your eye. They went to the Frothy Monkey coffee shop. They sat in a booth by the entrance. She had her arm around him. When they left they were holding hands. I know. Fascinating. You're dying for more? Well there is so much more. There's a "Romance Road Map" illustrating how they have traveled to be together. A source says, "She loves how nice and affectionate he is." He hung out with her family, she hung out with his. There's even a picture of Taylor walking with Maggie Gyllenhaal and her daughter Ramona. "Taylor is really into kids, and she loves Ramona," says a source. And in case you think this relationship is not real, the mag reminds you that Jake loves blondes and Southern girls: He dated Kirsten Dunst and Reese Witherspoon before Taylor. Let's move on.

LOL. They always overdo it. It's like liars who think the lie is more belieavable the more details they throw in ;)

  10. reposting DL gossipDecember 01, 2010 2:20 pm

Taylor image is so manufactured. First of all, she's from Pennsylvania, not Nashville. Her father is a millionaire with connections to the industry who paid 2 million for Big Machine records to make Taylor a music star.

  11. Not only is Jake getting laughed at and roasted at ONTD, but he's getting killed over at JJ also. Actually any website that talks about them gets comments that are almost all negative At least Reeke had a 50/50 like/don't believe it factor in the beginning The Jake/Taylor thing is starting out with a 97% not believing it factor. It's impossible that his PR and he and his family don't know the web reaction to them. It is interesting that the Gyllenhaal clan is jumping on the photo op train right from the beginning. They must like Taylor a hell of alot more than Reese. Wonder if he and his PR will disregard public opinion and keep up the showmance until all the likability about Jake is totally killed of. How does he agree that this is a good idea? It's baffling.

  12. I'm cringing that Jake is lumped in with these kids. How embarrassing.

Poll: Who Is Hollywood’s Hottest New Couple?

Jaylor and Tily: The newest romances to hit Hollywood (BTW, totally open for other couple name suggestions).

Seeing as celeb dating in this raunchy town has a pretty terrible success rate, we gotta ask:

Who has a better shot at love, Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift or her ex Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins?

    Let's break it down:

Yesterday marks Taylor and Jake's second coffee date this week (we've lost track how many they've had since their courtship started). The pair was caught sippin' some brew at the Frothy Monkey in Nashville.

In Jaylor's defense they have tried going on under the radar dates, but folks in their coffee houses of choice have been snapping phone pics and blasting them on the web.

Still, the "cutest" these two have gotten was when Swift got on her tippy-toes in Big Sur to playfully measure herself up against Jake. We cringed a little just typing that.

    Now let's get to Tily.

Lautner and Lily certainly have had more luck in the low-key romance department. They've been going on cutesy dinner dates at offbeat places (perhaps Robert Pattinson gave Tay some dating tips) and Collins' visit to Louisiana went undocumented.

Still, we'd like to see how these two interact. For all we know they could actually just be besties ('tho Lautner's acquaintances claim otherwise).

But, as the story goes, both of these duos are appearing to be very much on.

    Do you approve?

  18. Interesting review for LaOD--this guy thought Jake was MUCH better than Anne (he didn't like her performance one bit and thought her character was annoying). He was surprised by their "lack of charisma" onscreen: http://www.jackiekcooper.com/MovieReviews/LoveAndOtherDrugs.htm

    ReplyDelete
  19. I read the US scans, it's ALL about Taylor again. Reeke 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The pictures are so staged it's scary! they look like a choreographed fashion ad or one of her cheesy videos.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 3:45 PM - What did you expect? That Taylor Swift would beard with Jake because she likes him?

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is worst than Reeke Rome feast!

    Jake is disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The magazine also has a full page ad for her 'US Taylor Swift Special Edition' magazine and a pic of her smiling looking straight into the camera from the same set: US ad and extra pic

    ReplyDelete
  24. Duh! TS likes posing for paparazzi, just like the chin.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jake is disgusting.

He truly is and so is Maggie for allowing her daughter to be used like that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No Jake no! I like him (like a fan likes a celeb) and I think he's a talented actor and I admit I fluctuate between believing he's straight, bi or gay. What can I say, sue me.

But dear god, this needs to stop. I wasn't sure if Reeke was real or totally fake or something in between l(ike using Reeke for publicity). Recently I came to the conclusion that Jake hated the attention that came with Reeke, hence HE broke it off. Then the TS thing started and again he's tabloid fodder. I don't know what to think.

Can he not have a good performance in a good movie and get attention for that? SIGH!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Recently I came to the conclusion that Jake hated the attention that came with Reeke,

Oh, honey. If there is one thing Jake loves above all else it is attention. Being the center of attention is even better. Come to you own conclusions re bi or whatever, but you can take it to the bank that he LOVES being "tabloid fodder." Out of all the females in the world, do you think he just happened to "fall for" Taylor S - probably the most famous (certainly the most publicized) female singer right now?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maybe you're right 4:49 PM. Regardless of his sexuality, he seems to love the attention that comes along with dating very famous women. Maybe because he can't get attention for his work, so he needs attentio for his private life? But that would make him pathetic. He doesen't have to do it. Even when you are gay and "have to" beard (I don't approve of bearding at all), then do it subtly. If Franco is gay, that's how you do it. Beard but subtly, not so openly.

I think Jake will never learn.
I just hope he'll get his career back on track.

    :(

  29. "Then the TS thing started and again he's tabloid fodder. I don't know what to think.

Can he not have a good performance in a good movie and get attention for that? SIGH!"

Same here- I managed to go through the Reese years but now it is over for me.

I have never expected to say this but for me he now is just another of those typical Hollywood fakers.

Not really interested in his craft, no integrity but the "the boyfriend of....." - good riddance Mr G.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think Jake should be dissed, we should feel sorry for him. He obiously is a very lost man and listens to bad advices. It's a pity that his well respected sister is supporting this tabloid nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lost man who can find his way to tabloid covers :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Honestly, I think Franco is genuinely bisexual and I think if it weren't for his PR folks, he would have outed himself as such AWHILE ago. I don't think he cares ONE bit about what the public thinks of him--if he did, he wouldn't have done a soap (BTW, his "Franco" persona on GH was funny). I think he has done exactly what he has wanted to do the past few years--and look how HOT he has become! He's a dead certain Best Actor Oscar nominee and now co-host with Anne. (I still find it interesting that Jake wasn't asked--he was an SNL host--was pretty funny in that Dreamgirls bit--and he's co-starring in a movie out right now with Anne).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't know about Franco, but I keep hearing stories about him dating men. And dating men while in "relationship" with a woman = gay.

    ReplyDelete

  35. I don't think he cares ONE bit about what the public thinks of him--if he did, he wouldn't have done a soap (BTW, his "Franco" persona on GH was funny).

I think it has more to do with James liking the attention for his professional choices (which is much, much better than attention for private life). Hosting the Oscars and maybe receiving an Oscar on the same evening = attention gallore. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. So what, if Jake had been offered the Oscar gig you think he would've refused? Franco is the hottest young actor at the moment. Good for him!

    ReplyDelete
  37. 5.50 PM, no one will argue with that.
He along with Gosling and JGL is the next big thing.

    Jake's career peak was BBM.

See, 2 of Jake's friends or acquaintances will be nominated for Oscars this year, Natalie, Michelle. And he is stuck.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Then why are you saying Franco does what he does professionally for attention? Get over it. If he does then so does Gosling, JGL, Hardy and others. I don't see them refusing awards or nominations.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Then why are you saying Franco does what he does professionally for attention? Get over it.

Get over what? I doubt Gosling or JGL would star in soaps or host Oscars while nominated. He is an attention whore re. his profession and I did say it is better than, like Jake, being an attention whore re. private matters.

In the end, yes Franco is a good actor and has a great career in front of him. What do you want me more to say?

Don't be so emotional for fucking actors. As if they give two shits about us. Let me say what I want, it's just an opinion of someone who should have a more interesting private life but hasn't instead spends too much of their time on a celeb blog. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "He along with Gosling and JGL is the next big thing."

Can you imagine one of those three guys getting six pages in US Weekly promoting their "new relationship"??

Franco is up for an Oscar, Gosling has two interesting films out, Paul Dano (also one of the young promising actors) has just joined the cast of JGLs next film "Looper" - the news are all over the film sites.

  44. Jake is disgusting.

He truly is and so is Maggie for allowing her daughter to be used like that.

    Ditto.

I see nothing wrong with someone trying to get a lot of attention for themselves and for their work, that is the way it should be. But I think it is wrong to use your relationships to get attention, whether the relationship is real or not.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He is an attention whore re. his profession and I did say it is better than

Sorry you have Franco, it must piss you off that he's the most sought after young actor right now.

Both would be jumping at the chance, as would Jake.

  49. Sorry you have Franco, it must piss you off that he's the most sought after young actor right now.

So true. I have sleepless nights because of it. Fuck! Franco is the most sought after actor... the scary thought dominates my real life, I'm even suicidal because of it. Damn, I'm so transparent.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Both would be jumping at the chance, as would Jake.

Jake probably, but the other two...still not sure.

    Whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 6:24 PM, you've been saying Franco is pretentious and an attention whore for months when he only minded his business. It's tired and annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Actually it depends with Jake. If LAOD got better reviews and better b.o. he would have accepted the offer, but as it is now, I think he would have refused.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have no problems with any actor being an "attention whore" for his craft or profession - but I have problems with pimping your so called love life but on the other hand trying to build an image of a "low key, private person".

    ReplyDelete
  54. It's tired and annoying.

I only said he wants attention for his profession more so than some of his equally talented peers. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Responding to you is tired and annoying. So, i'll stop.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Actually it depends with Jake. If LAOD got better reviews and better b.o. he would have accepted the offer, but as it is now, I think he would have refused.

LOL! Why in the world would Jake refuse? He loves attention, why do you think he's fauxmancing with Taylor. Hosting the Oscars would get him more exposure than his coffee runs with Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  56. LOL! Why in the world would Jake refuse? He loves attention, why do you think he's fauxmancing with Taylor. Hosting the Oscars would get him more exposure than his coffee runs with Taylor

I think he'd be more confident with a critical and b.o. hit in his bag. But who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jake was obviously NOT asked to co-host the Oscars cause if he were, he would have LEAPT LEAPT LEAPT at the chance. Are you kidding?

    ReplyDelete
  58. But that would make him pathetic.

:( I understand it's hard to believe someone who can be so charming can be such a phony, but that's HW for you. Smoke and mirrors.

He is a Hollywood baby, born and bred.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Remember that tweet of Jake and Taylor with Naomi at a restaurant in NYC right before Jake went to London for LAOD promo? I now believe that tweet was legit. Jake's mother is in it like she was in it with Reeke. Disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Jake was obviously NOT asked to co-host the Oscars cause if he were, he would have LEAPT LEAPT LEAPT at the chance.

You can say that again. In fact, I'll add another LEAPT.

  61. Jake's mother is in it like she was in it with Reeke.

In it? She's probably the captain of the S.S. Showmance!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Man, this fauxmance is more entertaining than any of the movies he's made in the last five years, lol.

    How sad is that, though?

    ReplyDelete

Why she encourages her son to be a laughing stock is beyond me. Nah, money must be it.

  65. ONTD has another post on the US Weekly story with a scan of the article. Definitely staged. But what's interesting is that the article ends with "How long will they last?" and goes on to say how Gyllenhaal friends and Swift insiders say how the relationship has moved so quickly but will most likely not last. But it also goes on to say how they will both be in London for 12/5 & 12/6 so we can wait for the next photo op in London for the next US Weekly cover.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I cant' help it, fangirls crack me up.

Most surprisingly honest comment over at Lashers about the cover: "It's posed right? Because that looks like a still from a movie."

Most laughable comment (by LG who LOVED Reese for 2.5 years):

"The mean part of me hopes Reese sees that cover every time she goes to the grocery story."

Yeah, Reese is crying her eyes out every night, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  67. and goes on to say how Gyllenhaal friends and Swift insiders say how the relationship has moved so quickly but will most likely not last.

    Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Seriously, how do they keep this pretense going? She's soon going to be on a world tour for the next 1-2 years. Sooner or later he is going to be working on another movie, and he'll have promo work to do in the spring for SC.

I don't think he'll take 2 years off and drive the tour bus, right?

    ReplyDelete
  69. 7:41 Why do you find that part of that fanfic fascinating? Didn't they say the same thing about Jake and Reese in the beggining?

    ReplyDelete
  70. OT: I Love You Phillip Morris (with Jim Carrey as a gay conman) is opening on Friday. It's getting a lot of good reviews. EW gave it an A-; even Armond White, who hates everything, likes it a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  71. 8:11, no they didn't say the same thing about Jake and Reese.

He was the antidote she needed after mean old Ryan cheated on her and they got divorced-- it took awhile for him to meet the Phillipe kids, she wanted to take it slow.. etc etc etc... they certainly didn't pr it as true love after five weeks

    I'm looking forward to it.

destiny, I saw "Fair Game" the other night because of your post about it. It was excellent, and Sean Penn and Naomi Watts both gave great performances. Thanks for the recommendation :)

  75. 8:32, According to the insane Lashers, she was after seeing the US Weekly cover of Jake and taylor.

  76. Wow, haven't finished ONTD threads, did read JJ. Practically no one approves of this, and the first few comments on ONTD were from people claiming they never thought Jake was gay or believed Ted until now.

    Way to go pr.

Someone on DL pointed out that there is a lot of money to be made by managers, publicists, etc. by arranging and managing bearding. Is it any wonder they urge clients to beard--talk about a conflict of interest.

Shes not southern, just does a poor imitation. As a real southern girl, the bitch needs to step back.

  80. Isnt jake on his way to Australia for LAOD promo on 12/6. Or is he now too embarrassed to show his face there since the movie is a flop.

    ReplyDelete
  81. She has had twice the amount of boyfriends than Jake has had girlfriends according to the article. I just don't get it. Even as a beard, Taylor is as about trustworthy as Reese.

I guess Jake isn't the nice guy everyone thinks.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Not only twice the number of boyfriends but at 9 years younger. More ways to make Jake look wimpy and emasculated. I wonder if his PR staff doesnt have it in for him. Silent sabotage.

  84. Taylor Lautner + Taylor Swift's Amazing Fauxmance Rebounds
Remember when Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift were supposedly an item, but all those gay rumors kept dogging the male Taylor? Well now female Taylor has moved on to relationship with another suspected 'mosexual, Jake Gyllenhaal, with the regularly appearing "citizen paparazzi" photos of coffee dates and casual strolls to prove they're an item! But what about male Taylor? Oh, don't worry, he's found another actress to play his beard girlfriend: Lily Collins (daughter of Phil), who just happens to be Lautner's Abduction co-star. Watch this one last all the way until Sept. 24, the day after their film's release date.

  85. There are no words how disappointed I am in Jake, again. I really thought he might try a new approach after Reeke and his charming interviews during LAOD promos had me root for him again. Now this.

Whatever his sexuality Jake is obviously a fame whore. The attention after BBM must have messed his head and since his films keep bombing coffee runs are the only way he gets noticed nowadays. It's sad and pathetic.

When will his advisers mention actually making movies (movies you are interested in making and passionate about, not just stepping stones to stardom) might be a good way to get noticed as an actor.

  86. Some more Queerty comments:

Some actors want to be publicly closeted and privately out—then when their career is over and they come out publicly for a boost, they can then say they were never in the closet in the first place, which is a complete lie and might get them into some hot water.

Some actors actually want to be in the closet completely—and there are a variety of reasons why. Mainly said actor just cares too much what straight people think. Straight folks hardly care, anyway, at least when it comes to their television/film entertainment, but you can’t convince some of these actors and their reps of that fact. What’s even more disturbing is that they think no one in the industry will find out—we know all here. The people these actors are fucking are the people I’m fucking and my friends are fucking. My friends are executives, casting assistants, production coordinators and grips. Word travels fast here. This information is not hard to come by and I don’t know why people here in town or people on the outside have a hard time with understanding that (ahem ahem).

Others are really under a lot of pressure to stay in. The pressure the gay community puts on these actors to be out is nowhere near the pressure these actors are under to stay in. I know of at least a dozen stars who within the last 5-10 years who really did intend to come out. Publicist, Agent, etc found out and pressured them to stay in or in some cases threatened them, just like your Canadian friend. And you wonder why some of these celebs are on drugs, alcohol or hope that Perez does it. It also doesn’t help the fact that the pressure to stay in is largely coming from gay executives, producers, agents and managers, who, at the very least have some serious issues with their own sexuality to sort out and when a Neil Patrick Harris comes out, they get a bit resentful and as “punishment” they don’t cast you, they won’t represent you, etc. They feel you “broke the rules,” or “exposed a big Hollywood flaw.”

People here still use the belief that being out will ruin your career. That’s not completely true, especially since a lot of these actors hardly have what I would call a career. The public just doesn’t care. That’s why NPH is still doing movies and television. That’s why Ellen is on the air, that’s why Glee can do well. That’s why Matt Bomer still has his job. That’s why Zachary Quinto can get hired by Paramount for Star Trek with little opposition.

If people don’t remember, when the time did exist when being out would ruin you—guess what, the rumor would ruin you as well. I don’t know many straight women who don’t drool over Hugh Jackman, and those same women don’t believe he’s straight for one second, but he still makes money at the Box Office.

Overall, we’re moving in the right direction, but things would move faster if these actors and their reps would get some balls.

Overall, we’re moving in the right direction, but things would move faster if these actors and their reps would get some balls.

  90. Adam Levine with the beardDecember 02, 2010 5:55 am

    Caught in the Act!
New beau Jake Gyllenhaal may not have been there but Taylor Swift was in good (and handsome) company at a taping of the CMT Artists of the Year special in Nashville. The singer got chatty with Maroon 5's Adam Levine before his band covered her song "Mine" on the show (which airs Dec. 3 at 8:30 p.m. ET). During Maroon 5's performance, Swift watched with her iPhone out (to snap pictures) and her hand over her mouth, then returned to Levine's table to offer her review. "I told my band, "That's so much cooler than the song I wrote," Swift told him as he poured himself a glass of red wine.

I swear. Half of their relationship is spent slurping on lattes and since we all know that drinking coffee is like an oil and filer change for your bowels, the other half of their relationship is spent sitting on a toilet for two.

  95. Will Hosting the Oscars Win Franco and Hathaway Oscars?December 02, 2010 6:38 am

    ...
"Hathaway's best hope is for a Globe nomination," says Newsweek critic Caryn James. "This sends a message that Franco and Hathaway are taken seriously in the business -- they're grown-ups! -- which can help push them to the front of a race, but I don't think it changes their odds of winning or even getting nominated."

One Oscar voter agrees completely. "No, no, no. I don't see that it changes anything. I don't think it's negative or positive. It just gives the Oscar writers a chance for a few inside jokes. I don't have any strong feelings about it -- it's not a big deal. Younger blood is great."

Since Hathaway can't win as best actress, she can't lose as Oscar host. But blogger Jeff Wells thinks front-runner Franco is making a mistake. Hosting "will probably kill his shot at being a Best Actor nominee ... the Oscar telecast host can't win the Best Actor Oscar!"

"Hey, Tom Selleck won an Emmy for Magnum P.I. in 1984, the same year he hosted that awards show," retorts O'Neil. And 1959 Oscar co-host David Niven won as best actor for Separate Tables.

The way Franco and Hathaway can lose is by being the worst Oscar team since Rob Lowe and Snow White. This seems unlikely. They got the gig partly by being good hosts on SNL. Franco was pretty good, playing the General Hospital clip where Kirsten Storms tells him, "You really know how to charm the pants off of a girl." But Hathaway charmed everybody's pants off on SNL, nailing her skits even better than Franco did. "Hathaway's been one of the (few) pleasant surprises of the last couple of years on SNL," says showbiz blogger Bill Barol. "She actually seems to know where the jokes are located, [holding] her own against Fred Armisen and Bill Heder, two real sluggers, in a sketch about Kate Middleton." If she can sell Bruce Vilanch's gags, Barol says "they should give her the Mark Twain Award, like, immediately. That night."

I'll bet Franco and Hathaway will charm come Oscar night, but my pants won't budge until I see them do what 29-time SNL hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did as Oscar hosts: anchor the biggest ship in the movie universe. Analyzing great clips of the November SNL performance that evidently got Hathaway the Oscar gig, EW critic Ken Tucker says, "Hathaway wasn't the kind of first-rate SNL host who dominates the proceedings the way, say, Alec Baldwin or Steve Martin do. Instead of brawny power, she brought a brightly lit wit, an avid enthusiasm tempered by sure skill."

That may not be enough to make her (or Franco) Oscar legends. Maybe neither will take home a shiny doll from the carnival. But you have to play fame as a long game, and these two are winning.

  109. Catching up with TedDecember 02, 2010 10:20 am

    Dear Ted:
Do any of the Blind Vice Superstars know that know you know their dirty deeds ever approach you or confront you about how you know, or rather, who you know, in order to get your information? If so, I'm assuming they promptly throw a legal contract your way with the snap of their fingers...
    – Kim

    Dear Hide Behind Their Vice:
Usually I don't hear a peep from the star's legal team. Better I vice it than out it, eh? But you should have seen the look Bradley Cooper gave me backstage at last year's Golden Globes. Who knew he read our blind items?

    11/30 Bitch Back

    Dear Ted:
So Bradley Cooper and his peeps gave you the hairy eyeball, huh? Does his Vice have to do with casual encounters or partying? Hi Bradley if you're reading!
    —Niki

    Dear BV Vengeance:
Oh, he's reading. And let's just say Brad isn't exactly a Team Truth fan. But we still totally heart him—Vice included! Which just happens to be as delish as he is, though hate to say it doesn't so much have to do with any partying ways. Renee so wouldn't allow that.

    Dear Ted:
In a recent B.B., you insinuated an eating disorder wasn't the kind of B.V. that would haunt Taylor Swift. That makes me think her B.V. has something to do with drinking or drugs. Since I had a normal upbringing and I turned out fine after experimenting with drinking at 16 and on, I'm not too worried about a B.V. like that (plus she'll be 21 in a matter of days). I am, however, worried that her B.V. may have something to do with drugs and that just breaks my heart. I'm about 5 years older than she is, but I can't help being a huge fan of hers and wish her nothing but health, happiness, and success! I totally feel like the big sister being protective of the younger sibling who's still feeling their way through life. Please give me a hint as to her B.V., please!
    —Heather

    Dear Swift Denial:
Your concern is mucho adorable, Heather, so I'm happy to tell you that Tay isn't dabbling in the drug scene (and if her slightly condescending happy bday tweet to Miley is any indication, she's supposedly waiting until the big 2-1 to throw back some tequila shots). Her Vice will haunt her headlines more than her health.

    Dear Ted:
Is it harder for film actors like Toothy Tile to come out than it is for actors primarily known for television and/or theater? I can't think of any "out" gay actors known mostly for their film work (just those rumored to be gay), but I can think of quite a few for the small screen and the stage (Neil Patrick Harris, Sean Hayes, Ellen/Portia, Cynthia Nixon, etc.). If I'm right about that, why do you think that is?
    —KC

    Dear Duh:
And double duh. I've been saying that all along. And not only are the folks you named on the small screen, but they're also comedians—not exactly heartthrobs. Which is why they can still find work.

  113. It has to be a really bad showmance if Bonnie Fuller's Hollywood Life posted this:

Taylor Swift & Jake Gyllenhaal: It’s Just Another Hollywood Showmance!

Super-public dates and seemingly staged photos have us doubting these two big time!
There’s been a lot of talk about Taylor Swift, 20, and Jake Gyllenhaal, 29, lately. We know they went on three coffee dates in one week, we know they had a “romantic” rendezvous in London, and we know they spent Thanksgiving together with both of their families. But here’s the all-important question: Do you actually believe they’re dating? We don’t! We’ve analyzed the latest photos of the couple, published in the latest issue of Us Weekly, and we couldn’t help but notice these two performers really do look like they’re putting on a show.
While most A-list couples — the eternal union of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart comes to mind — do whatever they can to avoid the paparazzi, Jake and Taylor appear to be hamming it up for the cameras. Those huge smiles. Those exaggerated hugs. They’re like the new Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag! Seriously now, how many paparazzi are lurking around Park Slope in Brooklyn… on Thanksgiving?!
Here are a couple of theories we’ve got cooking as to why Taylor and Jake are faking it for the cameras:
    1. Jake’s got a movie to promote! Jake’s current movie, Love and Other Drugs, may feature nakedness aplenty between him and Anne Hathaway, but it isn’t doing quite as well at the box office s he probably hoped. The drama only grossed $14.5 million in its first five days, according to Deadline.com. And is there really any better way to drum up much-needed buzz than a highly publicized romance?
    2. Taylor’s fishing for material! Taylor’s latest album, Speak Now, didn’t sell more than 1 million copies in its first week for no reason. Her fans wanted answers! Now that Taylor is openly writing songs about her exes, she’s got a whole new legion of followers — and if she wants to keep this momentum going, she needs to be in the public eye with a controversial man on her arm. Enter Jake… whose name rhymes with fake. Just saying.
We sent the latest photos of Jake and Taylor to body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass, who says the pair’s positioning speaks volumes about their possible showmance:
“She has her hand clenched, which means there’s kind of a discomfort level,” Dr. Glass points out. “This relationship is awkward very awkward, there are more like friends if anything. There’s no romance between them.”
    Interesting… very interesting.
    Thank you for voting!

    It's the real thing! 21.62%
    It's a showmance! 78.38%

Lautner is more obvious, has been linked to creepy Bryan singer and has even been seen with him and was asked point blank about being gay in Rolling Stone magazine so they feel safer "going there".

Hours before their special news conference today, the cat is out of the bag: NASA has discovered a completely new life form that doesn't share the biological building blocks of anything currently living in planet Earth. This changes everything.

At their conference today, NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe Simon will announce that they have found a bacteria whose DNA is completely alien to what we know today. Instead of using phosphorus, the bacteria uses arsenic. All life on Earth is made of six components: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. Every being, from the smallest amoeba to the largest whale, share the same life stream. Our DNA blocks are all the same.

The implications of this discovery are enormous to our understanding of life itself and the possibility of finding beings in other planets that don't have to be like planet Earth.

  152. It's almost as if Jake has completely given up.

He's gone from a constructed showmance with an old (by Hollywood standards), pathologically manipulative pr-obsessed nutcase (Reese) that was carefully timed to coincide with the release of a film, to a constructed showmance with an young (by Hollywood standards), pathologically manipulative pr-obsessed nutcase (Taylor) that was carefully timed to coincide with the release of a film.

He's as predictable (and pathetic) as the sun coming up the morning. His MO is clear now : there's a long period with a real facial beard, near seclusion (probably immersed in gay porn and lots of meditation), constructed showmance, tanked movie.

Let's hope that he sticks to his schedule next time around. The last time, Reeke ended when Brothers came out (his next film after Rendition). Since GyllySwift was timed to coincide with the release of Love and Other Drugs, let's hope that it ends when his next film, Source Code, comes out in early spring.

  165. James Franco and meDecember 02, 2010 4:54 pm

Yesterday I was being accused of "hating" James Franco... that night I had a dream about him, that I met him fell for him, because he not only was attractive but also had a killer personality. Then I realized that he was not into me and I thought ok now I try my luck with Jake. When I told a friend about my dream she was like, who is James Franco? LOL. She wouldn't even know who Jake is, if I wasn't a fan of his (now a bit less of a fan than I was a few years ago). Nedless to say, I think my friend thinks I'm nuts with my celeb obsession.

Funnily I was less enthused about getting with Jake than getting with James Franco. Ha.

IRL I actually don't want to get with any star. Who knows how they are in real life? We mostly see what they want us to see (imo) anyway.

  169. Black Swan ONTD post:

Mila Kunis, who you know as the voice of Family Guy's Meg, insists that getting it on with Natalie Portman in Black Swan "wasn't done for shock value," but at the same time "we weren’t looking forward to it." Which is just what Natalie said! Nor was she looking forward to her father seeing it: "He was like, 'I don't think I should see the movie.' I was like, 'See the movie. There's going to be a point; get up and leave.'

EW: Okay, moving on: Have you seen any good movies lately?
Swift: Um, yes! [Laughs] What have I seen lately? None that are out yet.

EW: How about Love & Other Drugs, starring Jake Gyllenhaal?
Swift: [Smiles] It's a good movie.

EW: So what's it like to go away for a weekend with someone and have it end up on the cover of a magazine?
Swift: I write in great detail about my personal life, but I don't talk about it.

EW: Is anyone in your life allowed to say, "You can't write a song about me"?
Swift: Nothing is off-limits as far as writing. You can't have parts of your life you don't write about.

  171. Thanks for the answer about Queerty and their tone with closeted actors.

Regarding the BT conversation, Jake and Taylor did not spend Thanksgiving together. If US is to be believed, Taylor flew in Thursday night after spending the holiday with her family, and Jake didn't head to Nashville until what, Saturday? If there is a BT I'm sure Maggie "here, use me and my daughter" Gyllenhaal and Naomi would have no trouble babysitting for a few days.

I don't pay too much attention to Austin anymore, have no idea what his relationship with Jake is, or if it was possible for him to be in NYC. Last thing I heard about was the car show and the interview, which was what, Tuesday or Wednesday

They should have asked her if she saw Brokeback Mountain - oh wait, she was only 14 when it came out, lol. Clearly she knew exactly what questions were going to be asked.

  176. This must be really depressing for the hardcore Jake-Is-Straight types. Gylly-Swift is the last nail in the coffin because they simply can't avoid the timing factor any more. There are too many coincidences for this to be real. The willing suspension of disbelief can only last so long.

The only question now is whether Jake is merely a pathologically manipulative, somewhat desperate straight male star who is willing to do anything to revive his career, or a closeted, desperate gay man stuck in a cycle of transparently disingenuous bearding arrangements who has put his libido on pause for the foreseeable future.

I really don't know which one is worse.

  179. I write in great detail about my personal life, but I don't talk about it.

If the EW interviewer had any balls they would've followed that up:

"Can you explain the difference, Taylor? Because it sounds like you want to famewhore and make money off your personal life by writing about it 'in great detail' but then you want to turn around and pretend that you're a nice, sweet girl who is just trying to keep her personal life private."

I don't know why Jake is drawn to predictable, generic movies as of late? Nobody wants to see that anymore.

  186. I read some spoilers on imdb about SC. This movie is very predictable, very formulaic. It won't be doing well with critics.
Astonishing that Jake got the DD part when he was much less known and SC at this point of his career. It should have been an upgrade.

  187. Source Code trailer reviewDecember 03, 2010 3:11 am

Source Code looks to be a Quantum Leap meets Groundhog Day sci-fi action romp. 35 seconds into this trailer, I half expected Jake Gyllenhaal to utter, “oh boy.” He instead exclaims, “no, no, no, no,” as if to echo my thoughts exactly. Question: What did I take away from this trailer? Answer: I don’t want to see Gyllenhaal act the same “stop the terrorist on the train” scene, over and over and over again.
    ...
Towards the end of the trailer, Jake Gyllenhaal asks Michelle Monaghan, “what would you do if you knew you had less than eight minutes to live?” And with a smile she answers, “I’d make those seconds count.” Gyllenhaal’s mouth curls up ever so slightly, hinting at the potential of a “less than eight minute long” love scene. “Oh boy.”
