Feels So Good That It Can’t Be Wrong

Ricky Martin Ricky Martin, "Me" book signing, November 2010

There is something beautiful in witnessing a major celebrity in the throes of profound and real transformation. A week before we meet, Ricky Martin had made a surprise appearance at the annual Human Rights Campaign national dinner to pledge his support. “Something as simple as standing at that dinner and saying, ‘I’m gay,’ creates so may emotions I’ve never felt before,” he admits. “I didn’t do it earlier because of fear, and, bottom line, it was all in my head. I was seduced by fear, and I was sabotaging most of my life -- my music, my relationships with my friends, with my family, with everybody. That’s something I need to share because I know that a lot of people are going through what I went through, no matter what their age, and fear cannot control us.”

Ricky Martin is about to share big time -- with his new memoir, Me, a remarkably heartfelt account of his journey from teen group Menudo to fatherhood, delivered in a frank, conversational style that doesn’t economize on the truth. It includes accounts of his first passionate affairs -- with men and with women -- as well as his struggle to reconcile his conflicted yearnings with his rapid ascent in America. The pivotal year is 1999, at which Martin performed his World Cup anthem, “La Copa de la Vida,” at the Grammys. Largely unknown in the United States beyond Hispanic audiences, he left the stage as a breathless Rosie O’Donnell (the evening’s host) exclaimed, “Who was that cutie patootie?”

It was connecting the dots that led directly to Martin’s tweet last March. In his memoir, he recounts how friends and colleagues remonstrated with him to hold off: “I ignored all their recommendations, and by the end, when they came to me with the argument that I shouldn’t do it during Easter because it might offend my Christian fans, I said: ‘What part of ‘I can’t take it any more’ do you not understand? What about me?’”

Above all, he says he worried about Matteo and Valentino having to answer for their father’s untruths. How would they respond as they grew older? Would they have to lie on his behalf? “How could I teach my kids to lie?” he asks. “How could I teach them not to be themselves?” And, as simple as that, he realized he couldn’t and wouldn’t. “My children will grow up with no prejudice,” he says. “As parents, we need to create a new way of thinking for our kids, in which we accept, and we love, and we can vibe with everybody.”

Blind Vice: Priscilla Desert Is Dry Indeed

Turns out Blind Vice vixen Priscilla Desert isn't as trampy as some of you think.

Sure, she hasn't exactly kept the best male company (much to the dismay and spin control of her team) but don't you dare label her slutty by association!

You wanna know why?

Yes, Priscilla Desert is...

Still a virgin!

(Pals close to Priscilla let this slip after a few too many cocktails, so the apple doesn't fall far from her friends!).

Now, to those of you who don't live in Hollywood where practically everyone keeps a legs wide open policy, this may not seem shocking for a girl of her age.

But it is. It really is.

Especially because other chicks who grew up in the spotlight like Me-Me Dallas or Darla Jones certainly cannot say the same.

Humping in trailers is so not P.D.'s thang.

Now Pris's bearding to Parrish Maguire makes a little more sense. Fauxmance's always serve a purpose, but since she isn't getting it anywhere else of course she doesn't mind the PR sham. Being attached to hotties in this business benefits her too, ya know.

Guess that also tells us that despite the fact Miss P throws 'em back, she never gets too out of control to lose track of her clothes.

We find this very respectable! And way cute. Guess her good girl image isn't totally a sham.

Now ditch the losers honey and find real love that you say you desperately want!

Here's hoping that once you get a taste of something good (we mean true love people, duh), you never go back to bearding.

The Split-Screen Struggle Over Gay Rights

^^^ said...

Those who oppose equal rights for the LGBT community are not just standing against the right of gays and lesbians to marry the person they love, or to openly serve in the military -- they are standing against the inevitable.

It's inevitable, and an issue that can't be dismissed as belonging to the left or to the right. This was demonstrated by the legal dream team of David Boies and Ted Olson, who were on opposite sides in Bush v. Gore in 2000 but joined forces to overturn Prop 8 in California -- proving that the issue isn't a question of liberal vs. conservative, but a matter of civil rights.

Weird? How? Give us an example.

For one, he used to be so ambitious about his career. Now he seems like "whatever". Then on one hand he, IMO, genuinely appreciates his privacy, but deliberately chooses more famous women than himself to be his compagnions. Latent attention wish? Jake seems very contradictive regarding many things, part of it could be because he still has to figure out who he is, an aspect could also be his sexuality. Is he really sure what he wants in his life, for his career, who he actually is? I don't think so.
Not saying he hasn't a delightful personality and he's matching it with his good looks, but I think Jake's a bit lost secretely.

I'm sure she's happy about Tony, but can't be happy about her movie career.

It was recently reported that Mickey Rourke was offered only $250,000 for appearing in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel. Rourke rejected the offer, but then ended up taking the role for $400,000.

The recently signed Scarlett Johansson also took $400,000 (upped from $250,000), even thought she would have expected to break seven figures in a film like this.

So how are studios able to hire actors like Johansson and Rourke for only $400,000? Easy. If the actor rejects the offer, they immediately move on to the next person on the list. "They're not f*cking around," said a talent representative. "They know exactly who that next person is. Sometimes they'll tell you."

Gwyneth Paltrow slams 'unnecessary' celebrity couples

Gwyneth Paltrow is baffled by celebrity couples who flaunt their relationship in the spotlight, insisting high-profile pairings are "unnecessary" and don't "make sense."

The "Iron Man" star is married to Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, but they are rarely seen out in public together and never attend showbiz events as a couple.

Paltrow, who was previously engaged to Brad Pitt and has dated Ben Affleck, is adamant there is no need for celebrity lovers to parade their partnership in public and she's convinced stars who step out together have an unhealthy interest in self-promotion.

She tells CNN, "When I see high-profile relationships now, I think, 'Oh my God' even though I'm technically in one. But we sort of don't do anything public, we try to keep it behind the scenes as possible (sic). Because it just generates more interest... it just undermines the quality of your life.

"It's just unnecessary to be a public couple, and to have your couple-dom or whatever be its own entity, it doesn't make sense to have that in the public world."

Is Jake Gyllenhaal Helping Taylor Swift Get Over Her Bad Relationship Phobia?

"I have a phobia about being in the wrong relationship. So as soon as I establish that it's not the right one, I don't want to waste their time."

—Taylor Swift (kind of) opening up to Allure magazine about her oft-talked about love life

This explains why she kicked the likes of Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner and John Mayer to the curb. But could this mean that Jake Gyllenhaal is the one?!

Doubt it (seriously), but could Jake be responsible for the new outlook on love Tay's blabbing about to mag?

Who knows! 'Cause both halves of the ice-cream-lickin', apple-pickin' duo are staying tight lipped.

(You know, "privacy" and all that. It keeps the tabloids interested, but we're sure that's not their intentions.)

But here's what we do know: If there's one gal who should know love isn't simple, it's Taylor Swift. The country cutie wrote three albums' worth of tunes about the guys who just weren't up to her fairy-tale snuff, after all.

So consider us shocked (Taylor isn't the only one who can be surprised) when Tay 'fessed she's just now realizing relationships aren't always so easy.

"I was filled with advice!" Taylor dishes to the mag. "I'd tell my friends things like, ‘Don't accept that apology! That isn't sincere!' Or, ‘He hung out with his ex-girlfriend? Get rid of him!' But love is never that simple. Now I'm finally getting the idea it's the one thing I don't need to have a strategy for."

How very no-nonsense, Taylor! Like a mini Reese Witherspoon.

We're just hoping Taylor's tell-all approach to making music doesn't change with her new strategy-free search for Prince Charming. But we're thinking it won't:

"Relationships are fascinating and riveting and completely unpredictable. For me, love is everything," Tay says, promising tons more albums packed with lovey-dovey ballads and bitter breakup anthems.

In the case, we can't wait to hear what she's got to bitch about with Jake.

But the question is: Are you buying Jaylor as a power couple yet? Or does it still seem too good to be true?

Anonymous said...

I do not like Paltrow, but in all fairness she does not seem to use her relationship to promote herself. You rarely see photos of her with Martin. They are nothing like Gwen and Gavin.

Anonymous said...

Good point. But when she was with Brad Pitt they were everywhere. Same with Ben Affleck. Maybe she learned from that, who knows? But Brad and Angie are the ultimate power couple now so it seems like a dig at them, lol.

Also on People's list of sexy men: Jon Hamm, Kellan Lutz, Jimmy from Degrassi Drake, Matthew Morrison, Jon Bon Jovi, Joe Manganiello aka Alcide from True Blood, Robert Downey Jr., Jesse Williams, Justin Timberlake, Vin Diesel and Jake Gyllenhaal.

So, the question is: Is Ryan Reynolds really the sexiest? Personally, I think Joe Manganiello blows Ryan out of the water. (Joe blows Ryan? File that under fanfic.) But Ryan is in next summer's tentpole Green Lantern, produced by Warner Bros., a subsidiary of Time Warner, the parent company of Time Inc, which publishes, you guessed it, People magazine.

I agree there is something off about Jake, I think he is in turmoil. I remember his comments about his family's reaction to the movie role in Donnie Darko. I think he said something about how they all finally began to see that he was in trouble or they understood what he was trying to say to them? I never understood what he meant by that. Was he talking about his quitting college or his pursuit of acting or something else. Donnie Darko the character was really screwed up and if Jake's family particularly his parents saw Donnie Darko in Jake, that is saying something.

I think Jake suffers from an inferiority complex because of Maggie, I also remember reading in print that he felt his sister was the favorite and was loved more. I read that before I became obsessed with Mr. G. It was an odd thing to say for a big time HW actor. He loves his family and I feel he has this need to not only pleased them but at the same time show them how successful he is. And that includes who is dates which keeps him more famous than Maggie. I think he is one F&*7ed up human being. No joke.

Just a theory.

Maybe that's why Jake likes to be seen/bearded with blondes, so they don't look like brother and sister.

Anonymous said...

Did you notice that Letterman did not tell Jake if he liked the movie? I remember Letterman raving about "Brothers" to Tobey Maguire and his raving about "The Dark Knight" to various stars of the film.

Anonymous said...

Are we sure Jake is TT?! It's so hard to watch this soft spoken nice guy on TV on Letterman and imagine him as a coke/sex/female-hooker/brutal-bj and handjob/male-hooker and dark-alley/bj-solicitor/risky-public-sex-addict be Toothy Tile with or without a baby.

Has there ever been a black People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive? Asian? A man with mixed ethnicity? Just wondering. All these PSMA look the same year after year.

I agree. They can mix it up sometimes, you know, different ethnic males included in the majority group. I'm white and there are many beautiful men who are of different races that could easily be on that list. I agree it's bland and looks the same every year.

In People's Sexiest Man Alive issue, Jon Bon Jovi will get his own article titled 'Sexier Than Ever'.

Other in the issue include: Ricky Martin, Jimmy Fallon, David Beckham, Scott Caan, Seal, Matthew Fox, Jon Stewart, Chris O'Donnell and Blair Underwood.

Exactly. One of the reasons it's so easy to fool the public is that it's hard for people to look outside their own frames of reference. Plus, so many are thinking - "but he/she couldn't possibly be anything but what they appear to be when I see them on TV!" Ha! NO ONE is COMPLETELY what they appear to be.

Look, none of this means that Jake isn't funny and charming and probably a very nice person. But why do people think that nice, funny charming people can't also like risky sex, or sex that they think is "kinky", or dabble in drugs (you really think cocaine use is shocking in HW?)

Okay--but is this soft core porn? I don't mind nudity if there's a good story and good acting. Not sure this is a good movie because otherwise why would they feel the need to capitalize on the nudity at the expense of the story itself?

I'm still going to see Harry Potter and Burlesque turkey day weekend. Sorry.

Do you watch any cable programming? Such as HBO or Showtime?

Anonymous said...

EW pics are nice. They both look good :) It does seem like they are really pushing the nudity angle, but that's okay as long as the movie itself isn't just one big cliche fest, with nudity and raunchy humor the only things separating it from a Lifetime movie. I hope that's not the case.

Am I the only one who thinks Jake and Anne have great chemistry as friends but no sexual chemistry?

Michael k said...

No.

Jakey Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are pretty much nekkid as mole rats in that Love & Other Drugs movie, which should send a billion endorphins straight to my nipples but from what I've seen these two have the sexual chemistry of a pedophile with OCD and an elderly hoarder.

Take these covers of Entertainment Weekly for instance. I know this it supposed to make us pull our zippers down to give our good parts some air, but it's not doing anything for me. It looks like something you'd see on Awkward Family Photos. Like a brother and sister trying to reenact the Star is Born poster for their New Year's Eve party invitation.

It's like the least successful Levitra ad ever. Like a sex therapy book from the early 80s. You see where I'm coming from. And no, you don't have to gorge out your eyes with a broken off BIC pen, because where I'm coming from is not the usual place I come from. That's a shame, because the sight of Jakey's pec pubes is supposed to have that effect on me.

Who said that they have sexual chemistry?

Aren't they supposed to have sexual chemistry in those naked pics? They're promoting a movie where they're having lots of sex, I'd say sexual chemistry is imperative.

I think Anne looks like Rachel Weisz in those shots. Was her nose photoshopped? Anyone notice the resemblance?

With or without Jake and Anne, I wouldn't expect sexual chemistry in LAOD, it's just not the kind of movie for sexual chemistry or serious relationships stuff.

Anonymous said...

Didn't LAOD premiere in NYC? Where are the reviews? IMDB rating, meanwhile, is way down. Hm.

Not according to Jake, Anne and Ed.

Anonymous said...

Let's wait and see the film before we judge about the sexual chemistry on screen. They are good actors, I'm convinced they did a convincing job.

In real life they are just too comfortable with each other. She's gorgeous, he's gorgeous, they like each other, have sense of humor and charisma, STILL no ST in rl. There must be something foul. It would be only natural for them to fall in love.

They probably do have sexual chemistry during the sex scenes, etc. But as for those EW pics - no. The pics are cute, but not sexy in the least.

Anonymous said...

I thought that was exactly what the movie was supposed to be about - at first they just have great sex and then it turns into a serious relationship.

yeah, I noticed that :/ He said he saw it the night before but didn't follow that up with anything about how much he liked it.

Too much talking about LAOD, as in talk about the sex scenes? If so, I agree. I feel like I know all about them although I haven't seen the movie yet.

I think the reason I still find the BBM love scenes powerful and sexy in spite of them being fairly tame is because there's an aura of mystery around them. I don't know any details about how they were filmed and I'm fine with that.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking, if Jake was straight, he and Nat would have hooked up for sure. He always gushes about her and supposedly said that she can do no wrong in his eyes. They also keep in close touch for years. I watched another interview with Jake and Anne and Anne said that they were rather acquaintances after BBM, now after LAOD they are friends, but it's Anne who texts him much more (i understand it as her searching contact more). I think if Jake were into women too and Anne let herself fall for him, he'd just hurt her. Just a feeling. In their case it's better to stay friends. But since there's a possibility that he's just into man, this was probably a redundant post. :)

Family of Rutgers suicide victim lends name to bill

The family of a Rutgers University student who committed suicide after a sexual encounter was broadcast online has consented to the use of his name on a piece of anti-harassment legislation.

The family of Tyler Clementi will allow Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-New Jersey, to use his name in the proposed federal legislation, to be known as the "Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act," an attorney for the family said.

Clementi's body was recovered from the Hudson River in September, more than a week after he jumped from the George Washington Bridge.

The bridge spans the river between New York and New Jersey, which is home to Rutgers. Clementi jumped from the bridge after two other Rutgers students allegedly videotaped a sexual encounter between him and another man and streamed it online.

The proposed law would require schools that receive federal student aid "to create policies prohibiting the harassment of any student," Lautenberg said last month.

The legislation also classifies cyber-bullying as a form of harassment.

Lautenberg said that federal funding would be provided to colleges and universities to deal with harassment and bullying against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.

"The family appreciates the courtesy extended to them during the drafting of the bill, and hopes that the legislation, if enacted, will improve the well-being and safety of America's college students," the family's statement said. "The Clementi family is humbled and gratified that the loss of their son, however painful for them, has inspired nationwide discussion and awareness of the need for a renewal of values of respect for human dignity and personal privacy, particularly for young people in this time of rapidly evolving technology."

Dharun Ravi, 18, who was Clementi's roommate, and Molly Wei, 18, have been charged with invasion of privacy. Their lawyers have asserted their innocence.

An update on this story from MSNBC:

Passengers on a red-eye woke up to an announcement more interesting than the typical "fasten your seatbelts" as they approached New York early Thursday: Two men had gotten married on board overnight when the captain briefly flew over Canada, where gay marriage is legal.

"The head flight attendant made the annoucement on the P.A. 'While you were sleeping, we had a little wedding in the galley. The captain diverted us over Canadian airspace so he could marry two gentlemen,'" said passenger Ryan McManus, who was returning home to New York.

The captain of Virgin America Flight 28, which originated in San Francisco, officiated the wedding, McManus quoted the flight attendant as saying. "We'd like to wish them the best and offer them a round of applause," he quoted the attendant as saying, noting that the passengers applauded on cue.
