This past weekend, the New Yorker held its annual festival, which -- as always -- includes a multitude of speakers and panels discussing a variety of topics. Top players in all professions were represented, including Stephen King, Malcolm Gladwell, Jake Gyllenhaal and Regina Spektor -- all chatting about themselves and their areas of expertise. Our favorite, though, would have to have been Cynthia Nixon on the panel discussion "Love and Obstacles: The Case for Gay Marriage."
Ms. Nixon, who is most known for her role has Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, and now is engaged to education activist Christine Marinoni, stole our hearts with her rather calm, well made argument. Not only does she make a good case, she makes an example of how to make said point.
“Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table. And that is all we want to do. We have no desire to change marriage. We want to be entitled to not only the same privileges, but the same responsibilities as straight people.”

I know people in Brooklyn and the LES and live near the Achs and the Gyllenhaals-Saasgards. Sees Jake at both places everytime he is in NY and there are is no kid. The families are very open, not secretive and are involved in the community and local politics.
If he was hiding a 3 year old, believe me it would be no secret.
He comes and goes and is freinds with too many people for this to be a secret and he doesn't behave like a man with a secret baby, just the opposite.
It bothers me when people who have children lecture to those who don't. Parenthood is great but it is not for everybody. If you make the choice to have a child don't go whinning saying Ohhhhhh you just don't know what it is like to be a parent or you just don't know that bond. Heard that expression many times. Gave up taking off a lot of time around Christmas to those who have kids. Parents have different responibilites but they are not anymore important than the responibilities of those who do not.

It's hard to say, neither of them seem mature enough to raise a family, but then again, they wouldn't be the first to have kids under those circumstances, happens all the time.
Usually, there's one parent home with the kids in the military, it's rare that both parents would be in the military. Of course, a single people can and do raise children. The weekend warrior husband/wives are very rare. To bond with a child, you need to be in the same vacinity as they are (preferably in the same room) for a good amount of time.
That said, I can't rule out the possibility that they are still a couple and that there's a child. The bracelet Jake had on makes me wonder. But it is pretty far-fetched.

this is complete bullshit. Why would all of those people help a grown man hide a baby? If he was not proud to be a father and all of the attention that comes with it, including Tabs, gossip all. If he was not ready for such a big committment and wanted to stay hidden with a partner, there should be no reason to take on such a large life changing committment. Either he's ready or not, All of those situations are just people (family memebers) enableing him and his/thier bullshit. He's a grown man, not a child. There is no BT.

To have extended family, etc. take care of a child constantly is not a support system, it's the total raising of the child. You could understand that with a 17 year old teen mother, but not a couple of grown men. If they'd go to all the trouble of having a child together, one or both would take time off to raise him/her, especially since they are independently wealthy.

One of his Aunt's used to be the head of a Jewish Women's political group, I forgot the official name and I don't know if it still exisits but that's how my freinds first realized that was his Aunt (her last name was Achs but she spoke about her sister, brother in law and niece and nephew)
Everyone knows in those areas that Jake and Maggie are related to the Achs.
As I said they are not shrinking violets and are very active in their communities, it was Maggie and Peter that first got involved with the Edible Schoolyard project along with a few of their cousins.
The few that have run into Jake say that he is cool, but a little bit dorky but quite and very much at ease and peace there, no one bothers him at all.
If BT exists I think it lives in LA, or between the LA to SF area, with a maternal figure who is raising it and Jake sees him/stays there as often as he can. No different from the millions of men who don't have sole custody of their kids and get them two weekends a month. They can't help it and they probably take their kids out in public, however maybe Jake/Austin have the mentality that as long as BT is with a parent/maternal figure all the time and they visit as much as they can, everything will be okay.

Re BT: I'm keeping my options open on whether BT exists because frankly, truth is stranger than fiction. All people, especially celebs, can do and hide surprising things. The possibility of anyone fathering a baby and keeping it secret is very plausible. On the negative side it is strange that if BT exists it seems like Jake/Austin is never with it, and how can it be hidden and what about when it gets older? I think if there's a BT, it lives fulltime with someone else, maybe a nanny but if Jake/Austin feel so comfortable being away from it so much that person could be a close relative or even the egg donor or the surrogate. Most but not all donor/surrogates are anonymous and sign the baby over never to see it again. It's very possible this could be the arrangement. I know Ted said TT was active in the rearing but "active" can have many different levels and variations in its definition.
I don't know if there's a BT and I'm not going to declare it an absolute yes or no, but I think the possibility of it existing is greater than the exclusion that it does not.

Tons of people (but especially men) go thru the trouble of having a kid, whether naturally, wanted, planned, surrogacy, accidental, etc. and then distance themselves for whatever reasons. Maybe the reality wasn't what they expected, maybe they find it hard to communicate with a baby/toddler and are waiting for it to get a little older, maybe they have deeper issues why they can't connect. The level of effort (or lack of, as in accidental pregnancies) someone does to MAKE a baby does NOT equal the effort they will put into raising it. It may sound like a good indicator, that they want it so bad, but no way does it determine what amount of effort and time will be spent on the baby after it's born.

Sometimes, you have no intention of getting pregnant and don't want to ever be a parent, then you do and you fall madly in love with your baby and don't want to be away from them for very long. That's why I find it unusual that J&A don't seem to behave very parentally. There's no way to know for sure, of course.

People we know personally can surprise us - for example the person who goes on a rage and murders, and all who knew him say he was nice and they can't believe that he did what he did. If people we know in person can surprise us, then by all means a celeb who carries a public persona, who has an image to protect, and that we do not have any personal contact with at all, certainly can.

A beautiful example is Ricky Martin - when he had his boys, didn't he take some long-term time off to be with them and raise them? They are beautiful children too. I think if Jake and Austin were parents, they'd do the same. People who go through a lengthy surrogacy process in order to become parents are serious about it, and that must be the most important thing to them. Career comes after children when you can afford it, IMO.
