27 February 2007 - Jake Gyllenhaal dropped by The Late Show with David Letterman to promote his upcoming crime thriller film Zodiac (out this Friday).
Jake then went on to talk about the fire in the lodge that he and his family got caught in late December 2006. While escaping from the fire, his mother, Naomi Foner, grabbed two necklaces (Jake gave her one and Jake’s big sis, Maggie, gave her the other).
And apparently his father, Stephen Gyllenhaal, grabbed… an empty suitcase. Nice one, Papa G! And Jake just had to share — both of his parents weren’t wearing any underwear. The Gyllenhaals like to go commando!! “We really have to save these people and get them some underwear!”
I dont cant believe that anyone would question who was in that room that night. It for certain was Austin Nichols. I do believe that they will also be sharing a room this new years eve.
^^^ Cantara said... As only one of many poor souls who have been called upon in this life to regularly pin his mittens to his jacket, I had a good laugh over that Stephen story.
Jake is so in synch with his father I can't even begin to tell you.
Reichen Lehmkuhl [Lance Bass's Ex] switches hats for his second column and leaves the activist at the door as he offers some sage advice for Hollywood hopefuls. Whether you're gay or straight, what Reichen has to say about "talent" puts the business that is entertainment into perspective.
Wading Your Way Through Hollywood
Thanks to everyone who read and commented on my last column, covering the current state of the train wreck known as “don’t ask, don’t tell” within our nation’s military ranks. The most common comment I received from readers of Advocate.com was that they had no idea that in 2008 a military member could be taken to court and punished, criminally, for being gay. Yes, it can happen, it does happen, and it’s all paid for by your tax dollars.
Switching gears to a lighter subject, but one that draws equally from my experience: the hopes and dreams of so many young people who come to Hollywood with dreams of "making it." ... Before I stop pushing harsh realities down your throat, let me address the gay issue for Hollywood hopefuls. There are many talented people who remain in the closet and, I’ll be the first to admit, for good reason, according to some individuals. I have been asked so many times about my opinion of in-the-closet actors, musicians, or artists when the questioner obviously wants me to answer that I think everyone should come out of the closet and that they should come out of that closet now.
Sure, in a perfect world, it would be amazing if every gay person in Hollywood’s public eye simply admitted that they are gay. Of course, in this scenario, opinions would be changed, most likely, for the better about our community in general. It would help us gain acceptance as loving, valuable, important members of society who deserve equal rights.
But even in a world where Ellen dominates daytime and MTV’s Parental Control features the acceptance of the youngest gay couples ever, many entertainers are afraid to come out.
I have auditioned for movie roles, soap opera parts, and other television roles where the final decision of “no” came down to the fact that I’m just “too out.” Not “too stereotypically gay,” but “too out.”
Why is this a problem? I’m told that it’s because many viewers out there who become fans of their television show’s leading men won’t be able to connect to that character if the viewer knows that the actor is really a gay guy. I’ve been told that conservative-minded companies that sponsor some of these programs wouldn’t look kindly on the actor in, say, a leading male role if he were actually gay.
Is there something broken about these ideas? Of course there is! Should we ever pander to the prejudices of others to make them feel more comfortable? No. Should sponsors be able to have a say in the private-life sexuality of one of their actors? No way.
But this is reality -- though it's happening less frequently. The truth remains that the more we are out, ignoring the prejudice and stigma, fewer entertainers will have to worry about their sexuality.
Not all actors and artists have the luxury of being out, however. At first their reasons for being closeted may be financial. A struggling actor or musical artist who is working up the ranks isn’t going to divulge their homosexuality for fear of stopping that forward career momentum. Then, after they are rich, famous, and popular, there might be a different type of pressure from the artist’s management, lawyers, and agencies to hide who they are for fear of not being picked for that next movie or to record another pop culture-oriented album.
Obviously, there are so many things to consider before making the move to Hollywood. Luckily, I have some solid advice that will serve you well, no matter who you are, what your talent is ... and it works for film, reality television, scripted TV, music, and modeling alike. Make sure you’re just a little bit different from the guy or girl next to you. When you show up at an audition and you don’t look like, sound like, or seem like any of your competitors, embrace that gift, because you’re at a point of opportunity.
Also, hold on to the friends you had before you entered the storm of Hollywood. They will keep you grounded. Should you start to get some notoriety, don’t believe your press! The ones who are giving you good press can and will turn on you to write horrible things about you. There is no need to listen to or believe any of it. I’m a really sensitive guy when it comes to this stuff, and I still have trouble keeping my skin thick when I am attacked by those who couldn’t possibly know the first thing about the type of person I am. I have let it bother me in the past. Do as I say, not as I do.
Lastly, figure out, before you make your debut, if you’re going to be out of the closet or in the closet. Weigh the challenges of living, dating, and normal everyday functioning as a person if you’re going to choose to be in the closet. Can you handle that kind of deception, avoidance, and even lying? If not, then make the decision to show the world who you are. This doesn’t mean you have to throw the fact that you are gay into everyone’s face. You’re simply not going to deny it if you’re asked. You’re going to demand that your talent not be judged according to your sexual identity (unless you’re auditioning for a new Queer Eye show, of course).
Either way, if you quit your day job, have a big savings account. Chances are you won’t hit the jackpot, but this fact doesn’t keep people from playing the weekly lottery, does it? If you have to do it, get your butt to Hollywood. Godspeed and, oh, break a leg.
DON'T mess with George Clooney's Christmas decorations. In "Christmas v. Chanuka," a new episode of the Jewish Channel's "Holy Dazed" series, Clooney's close friend and former roommate, "Spin City" star Richard Kind, spills that Clooney once hurled four pumpkin pies at him outside a farmer's market in LA after he barred Clooney from putting up a Christmas tree. (Kind and Clooney lived together for a few months after Clooney split with his wife in 1993.) "He was so angry, he was so upset, like a child," Kind jokes.
"A Florida woman claims a vacation rental company fired her because she used "'Merry Christmas" to greet callers. Thirty-five-year-old Tonia Thomas says she lost her job after failing to use the company-mandated greeting of "Happy Holidays."
How Disney Killed Off Its Billion-Dollar 'Narnia' Franchise
Disney announced today that it will not continue filming the Chronicles of Narnia series, prematurely snuffing an enormous franchise that the studio had clearly positioned as its Harry Potter. Here's why we're not surprised.
Eventually, the Narnia franchise was always going to present something of a challenge to put on film. Though it contains seven books, just like Potter, it's hard to imagine that Disney would ever bankroll a $200 million production of a novel as flimsy as The Horse and His Boy. And though we would have loved to see the studio deal with some of the crazy situations served up in the series' apocalyptic final book (like the premise that The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe's dear, sweet Susan can't get into Heaven because she committed the cardinal sin of wearing lipstick and is thus no longer a "friend of Narnia"), we suppose we'll just have to stave off those hopes unless Fox picks the franchise up and guides it to its moralizing conclusion.
Still, it should have been clear this was coming: Disney had long ago readied Michael Apted to begin pre-production on Steven Knight's adaptation of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (the series's third book), then remained conspicuously quiet on the matter after the first sequel, Prince Caspian, performed below expectations. Here's the thing, though: the fizzling of Prince Caspian was all Disney's fault.
One of the perils of adapting the Narnia series is that the four original, much-loved children from Wardrobe don't stick around for many further installments. However, they still remain in Caspian — so why didn't Disney choose to advertise that fact instead of putting franchise newcomer Ben Barnes (as Caspian) front and center in its advertising campaign (left)? With the trailers' high emphasis on action, CG battles, and a generic hero and villain, it came off as Eragon 2 instead of the continuation of a family franchise.
Disney also erred in its choice of release date for Caspian. The original, religion-tinged Wardrobe cleaned up in a Christmas-adjacent December slot where it eventually grossed almost five times its opening weekend figure—a practically unheard-of multiplier for such an enormous film. However, Disney tossed Caspian to the wolves in its summer slot this year: no religious holidays, an unusually family-friendly slate of competition that wedged it right in between Iron Man and Indy, and a brutal landscape of screen turnover that allowed it little chance of retaining its multiplier (even the leggy Iron Man only grossed triple its opening weekend). Perhaps Disney was rushing the film, or perhaps they were afraid of going up against the Harry Potter sequel that was originally scheduled for this winter, but it's hard to argue that the studio wouldn't have found more success with Caspian right now.
Good job screwing up a good thing, Disney. Now we'll never get to see that hot centaur spinoff featuring James McAvoy!
Yall Know DAMN WELL it was CHRIS in that room with Jake. Don't act like it wasn't. And yes Mama don't like Austin but she'll deal with Jake and Chris being together. Merry Christmas
Can't Jake have just platonic male friends? Maybe just maybe Chris is his best friend who he knows from childhood and there's nothing sexual between them?
September 13, 2008 This is the kitchen staff at the American Academy in Rome. I am cooking here until the end of November as a part of the Rome Sustainable Food Project.
Yes! anon 1:20, he can. Austin could be platonic or they could have just had a fling, got caught or somebody blabed to the Ted. And maybe now over. Some posters "do" think this may have happened you know. And some posters think th bf can or could have be Chris. I beleive some of what Ted wrote, but my bet is on Chris now. I am allowed to have my opinion too.
Ted settled the Chris vs Austin issue in the last week or so when he referred to the boyfriend having the role of a lifetime. Austin has a made for TV movie appearing on Lifetime this January.
If it had been Chris with Jake in that room, they would not have gone to such lengths to keep him hidden. Chris, long time family friend. They could have sold a reason for him to be with the group. Austin on the other hand, there only because he is Jake's lover. They got him out of there ASAP.
Austin has a made for TV movie appearing on Lifetime this January.
First pics and preview of Sigourney Weaver in "Prayers for Bobby"
We've been anticipating the upcoming Lifetime movie Prayers for Bobby with cautious optimism ... on the one hand, the format is a frequent punchline to jokes that usually have "has-been" or "Meredith Baxter Birney" somewhere in the setup. But on the other, the material and the talent involved are far above par.
Sigourney Weaver stars in and also produced the film, which is based on the true story of Mary Griffith, a woman whose son Bobby killed himself after his parents would not accept him as gay, and who went on to become a crusader for gay rights herself.
After the jump we've got a slew of production stills from the movie as well as the first preview, and from all accounts it looks like our optimism will pay off when the movie airs on January 24th.
Prayers for Bobby seems likes it's gonna be pretty good. Gotta mark the date on my calendar. The Ryan Kelly guy looks very small. Looks like he's only 125lbs.
When will Austin be featured? It's good he's working alot, but I would think he would now be more of a Featured actor in his roles. It seems some no name actors still get featured or billed above him. I don't know any of the young guys feature in the stills, or maybe it's me and the two guys are more known than Austin. I think sometimes it's who's managing you. Austin, get a new team man. Dump the manager.
Oscar winners and wannabes in UK February releases
Everything comes in pairs in the United Kingdom’s February film releases. Two Oscar-winning veteran filmmakers show how it’s done with Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” and Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”. Two famous characters from the past, one bringing chills and the other chuckles, also return — Jason Voorhees in a remake of “Friday the 13th” and Inspector Clouseau in “Pink Panther 2”. There are two serious awards contenders in John Patrick Shanley’s drama “Doubt” and the second part of Steven Soderbergh’s biographical saga, “Che”. And a new film titled “Brothers” from Irish director Jim Sheridan is about two conflicted brothers played Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire. ...
Awards eye-catchers
Meryl Streep, who has been nominated 14 times for an Academy Award and won twice, has two performances in possible contention this year. First there was her crowd-pleasing role in the global smash hit musical “Mamma Mia!” and now in a film version of the 2005 Tony Award winning play “Doubt” (Feb. 6, Walt Disney). Directed by playwright and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley, the story is set in 1964 at a Roman Catholic school in New York’s Bronx.
Streep plays the domineering Sister Aloysius, a traditionalist who rules with an iron fist and who instigates a furious campaign against Father Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman) based on flimsy suspicion of child molestation. The second part of Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh’s epic “Che” (also known as “Guerilla”, Feb. 20, Optimum Releasing) is also likely to win plaudits from prize-givers. It finds the Argentine revolutionary in Bolivia participating in a failed coup. Puerto Rican-born Benicio del Toro continues as Che with cameos from Matt Damon and Franka Potenta. Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” (Feb. 27, Lionsgate UK) is a remake of a 2004 Danish film with the same title directed by Susanne Bier. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby Maguire, Natalie Portman, Sam Shepherd and Mare Winningham, it tells of a young man who looks after his older brother’s wife and children when he is reported missing in Afghanistan. ...
"Check out the very first music video from Ryan Gosling’s indie rock band, Dead Man’s Bones. It’s called “In The Room Where You Sleep” featuring the Silver Lake Conservatory of Music Children’s Choir. Gosling, 28, plays the piano and sings vocals."
I also saw Slumdog Millionaire, and it is so amazing. The music in it is wonderful too. I saw the previews for The Wrestler as well, and that looks like an Oscar winner. It looks really good, and Mickey Rourke, even just from the previews, I was blown away.
No matter how you look at it, all the emotions connected with love are not really immortal; like all other passions in life, they are bound to fade at some point. The trick is to convert love into some lasting friendship that overcomes the fading passion.
Ted settled the Chris vs Austin issue in the last week or so when he referred to the boyfriend having the role of a lifetime.
Dear Ted: Love your Truth, Lies, & Ted. It’s even better hearing what you say straight from your mouth. Question about Grey Goose: Is he also an actor? If so, is he currently on TV? —Desante
Dear Goose Hunt: Darling, he’s playing the role of his lifetime!
Announcing the 2008 AfterElton.com Visibility Awards
Last year, the staff of AfterElton.com got together to choose the people and media images that we thought best represented gay and bisexual men. Which individuals or newsmakers gave the world the most positive impression of what it means to be gay or bi? What movies, books, and TV shows most accurately, and most enjoyably, dealt with the realities of our lives?
We were all set to do the same thing this year, when it occurred to us: why should we do the choosing? AfterElton.com is, more than anything else, a community, so why not let our readers decide who and what should be honored in the third annual AfterElton.com Visibility Awards?
I know. It’s all so very “new media” of us, right?
Anyway, we opened the floor for nominations. When they were in, we compiled the top five in each category, and the voting for the winners began. Thousands of you voted, and the results are now tabulated. So without further ado, we present the winners of the 2008 AfterElton.com Visibility Awards!
1. Man of the Year
On an election night that seemed to mark a break from the ugly, divisive politics of the last eight years, many GLBT folks were understandably demoralized by the upset win of California’s Proposition 8, which took away gay Californian’s right to marry and reinforced our second-class status and, worse, may have invalidated many of the marriages of our friends and neighbors already recorded at City Hall. But in the aftermath of that defeat, something wonderful happened: spontaneous protests of GLBT people and our many straight allies in streets and open spaces all across the country — even in many towns that had never before seen any public GLBT activism. And despite the anger many of us felt, these protests were, by almost all accounts, positive and peaceful.
The bitterness of Proposition 8 lingers, but it’s now impossible to deny that its passage has marked an important new moment in the struggle for GLBT equality — a cathartic, coalescing event perhaps as important as Stonewall, when our personal disagreements were forgotten and we seemed to collectively decide that we were never going backward, that we’ll do whatever it takes to achieve full equality. AfterElton.com readers intuitively sensed the importance of these events by nominating and voting for these protestors as our Persons of the Year. The editors of AfterElton.com wholeheartedly agree.
2. Favorite TV drama
Often when it comes to year-end polls, many people vote for whatever’s freshest in their minds and whatever’s most easily accessible. Not so with your Favorite TV Drama, Torchwood; this sci-fi show hasn’t been on the air since March, and is primarily a British show. But AfterElton.com readers voted for the show en masse anyway — in this and many other categories. This groundbreaking show has done so many things so well, but one of the most significant is that it has finally put to rest the outrageous lie that Star Trek and other TV franchises have told for decades: that GLBT people have no place in genre or science fiction. ...
6. Favorite TV Character
Like many previous TV sci-fi leads, Torchwood’s Captain Jack Harkness is handsome and charming. But unlike virtually every other TV sci-fi character, lead or supporting, Captain Jack is also openly bisexual. Ironically, this “small” change served to help make the science fiction genre, long the ultimate bastion of straight men, accessible not just to GLBT people, but also straight women, who also enjoy the show’s alternate take on sexuality. The character of Jack was conceived in association with John Barrowman, the openly gay British actor who portrays him. Where does the outspoken, ribald John Barrowman end and the brash, confident Jack Harkness begin? No one really knows, but enthralled AfterElton.com readers will no doubt long continue to try and figure it out.
7. Favorite TV Couple
Torchwood is revolutionary not just because the producers dare to put openly bisexual (or in Jack’s case “omnisexual”) characters in the formerly sacrosanct setting of sci-fi; it’s also that it presents these bisexual characters in such an amazingly matter-of-fact way. There’s no apologizing, no minimizing, and no moralizing — just good, old-fashioned romance and adventure. Perhaps this was only possible in the U.K., a country without American Puritanism. But however it happened, it’s a welcome relief. And a special shout-out to second-place finisher, Brothers & Sisters, which is surely one of the most gay-positive shows American TV has ever produced. ...
9. Favorite Kiss
If there was an upset in these awards, it had to be this category. First, despite dominating so many other categories, no kiss from Torchwood got nominated, then AfterElton.com faves such as Brothers & Sisters, Hollyoaks, As the World Turns and Forbidden Love all lost to the not usually gay Grey’s Anatomy. It would be tempting to say that all of the other shows split the vote, allowing Grey’s to sneak in like Marisa Tomei, but those smooching soldiers snagged a healthy 31.5% of the vote, beating their closest competitor by more than ten points. Not exactly a squeaker!
It should be noted that the soldier-on-soldier action in this episode — which aired on gay-supportive ABC – was both hot and romantic, and no doubt that helped the show score the best kiss nod. The episode actually features two kisses: the passionate one when the two men are discovered to be boyfriends, but also a later kiss when the surviving man tenderly kisses his dead partner goodbye. It was truly a heartbreaking moment.
10. Favorite Straight Ally
If anyone ever had any doubts about the depth of Brad Pitt’s support for the GLBT community, Pitt put them to rest this year. Back in 2006, Pitt famously announced he would not be marrying his partner Angelina Jolie until GLBT people could also get married, then declared he’d love to play a gay role. This year Pitt was a forceful voice against Proposition 8, speaking out and contributing $100,000 to the cause. No doubt it’s Brad’s compassion for gay people as well as his stunning good looks that have twice landed him in our annual Hot 100 list.
The other nominees were almost as interesting: long-time ally (and now Ugly Betty matriarch) Judith Light; San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, who started the ball rolling on same-sex marriage in California; Keith Olbermann, who gave an impassioned pro-gay “special comment” in the wake of Proposition 8’s passing; and, of course, Kathy Griffin. With friends like these … well, we’re certain to have full equality much sooner than we would have otherwise. ...
14. Favorite Movie
At the time most of the voting for the Visibility Awards took place, Milk had barely opened in limited released. So fess up, AfterElton.com readers: had all the people who voted for this movie actually seen it yet? Still, it’s a testament to the wild enthusiasm surrounding this film that some readers may have voted for a movie they had not even seen yet. Anyway, we here at AfterElton.com have seen it, and you can rest assured that it is absolutely worthy of this award. ...
Where does the outspoken, ribald John Barrowman end and the brash, confident Jack Harkness begin? No one really knows, but enthralled AfterElton.com readers will no doubt long continue to try and figure it out.
Revolutionary Road" opens today, and Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio loosely (for them, anyway) talked to Matt Lauer to push their first film together since "Titantic."
The award shows this winter are definitely going to have a different feel. First we learn that Hugh Jackman will host the Oscars, and now, Jake Gyllenhaal and Glenn Close have been tapped to a work the podium at the 66th annual Golden Globes.
Hope is not lost, however; Ricky Gervais will be the third wheel, having secured co-hosting duties for the event. But here's my question: Isn't Ricky Gervais kind of an all or nothing proposition? It seems to me that he should be one of maybe two comedians running the show, but to surround him with Gyllenhaal and Glenn Close seems like the show will have a "funny" section every hour and then a lot of, well, Glennenhaal.
There was talk once upon a time that Gervais might host the Oscars, since his three minutes on stage at the Emmy Awards was among that show's only highlights. I guess if there's good news for Gervais in being relegated to the Globes, it's not like anyone else there is going to really challenge him for laughs. This will be Gyllenhaal's first hosting gig, and Close, oddly enough, has some experience with something like this; she was an announcer for the Oscars back in 2002.
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Glenn Close, Ricky Gervais and Jake Gyllenhaal have signed up to be presenters at "The 66th annual Golden Globe Awards" in Los Angeles, organizers said. The prize presentation honoring the best in film and television in 2008 is to be telecast live on NBC Jan. 11 from The Beverly Hilton.
Close, Gervais and Gyllenhaal join previously announced presenters Simon Baker, Drew Barrymore, Sacha Baron Cohen, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler and Seth Rogen.
Hmmmmm - to me, a presenter could just be a one-time thing, presenting one award, a co-host(s) appear throughout the entire show. I wonder which it will be? :)
Glenn Close, Ricky Gervais and Jake Gyllenhaal are bringing their star power to the Golden Globes.
The three actors are set to serve as presenters at the 66th annual awards ceremony, to be held on January 11. They will join previously announced presenters Salma Hayek, Drew Barrymore, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler, Simon Baker and Seth Rogen.
There are no hosts for these awards, and there will none this time around either. They were the most recent add-ons as presenters, i assume a site go it wrong and other blogs picked up the mistake usual.

There's always a first time to have a general host, or a change of plans? Hasn't Jake been a presenter at the GGs before?
This will be Jake's third time being a presenter at the GG's, he did it in '05 and '07.
If Jake, Glenn and Rick were going to co-host, it would have been announced on 12/23 when they announced that the trio was added as presenters along with a long list of other presenters.
GG would not make a change like that (single host) so quickly and assign hosting duties to the most recent add-ons, they would pick a single host with more star power( Sorry jake, Rick and Glen)
That blogger is just spinning missinformation from a Irish online paper and Showbiz.com that got it wrong and stuff about Rick which have nothing to do with the GG.
If you go to the official GG site there is no mention of a single host, just the presenters, Jake, Glen and Rick being the most recent.
Who says you need two nuts to make a baby? Lance Armstrong is going to be a daddy for the fourth time. He told People that his girlfriend Anna Hansen is pregnant with their baby due in June. Lance put together this little statement and released it to the world: "We are very much looking forward to what 2009 brings on many fronts. We appreciate respecting our privacy, as we are both eager to celebrate the holidays as a family."
As you know, Lance is only operating with one ball friend due to testicular cancer, but apparently this baby was made the natural-way. The L.A. Times says this is rare.
Lance's other three kids were conceived through in vitro with frozen sperm pops Lance made before he started chemotherapy.
First of all, Jakey Poo is not smiling at this news. He wanted to be Lance's next baby mama. I bet he even has a crop-shirt that says "Lance Armstrong's Next Baby Mama." Second of all, if I was Lance, I'd have Maury on standby at the birth of his baby. Something in the jizz ain't clean about this shit. Lance may think he has the magic nut, but Anna's vagina could have been dancing with some other spermies.
Which couple has several difficult decisions to make now that their fake marriage is over? This gay, opposite-sex married couple were both in the closet for professional reasons, and agreed to the fake marriage to enhance each other’s professional image. However, now that the marriage is over, one of them may be coming out of the closet. That leaves the other, an actor, to decide whether to come out themselves or pretend that they are shocked - shocked! - that their spouse turned out to be gay. Both are unattractive options, as the former may hurt the actor’s career, and the latter would just be a lie which could result in hefty financial penalties. (Blind Gossip)
The holidays may be winding down, but for Oscar fans, the season of celebration has just begun.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences mailed 5,810 official Oscar nominations ballots to voting members Friday, and perhaps no one was more excited - or more daunted - to cast votes than its 105 newest members.
"It's like 'Wayne's World.' I'm not worthy," said Doug Cooper, 35, who just joined the short films and feature animation branch. "Basically, it's fear. You have to make a decision."
Cinematographer Jonathan Brown said he and his industry pals have been doing their own Oscar polling for years - but this time, his vote really counts. "The idea that now it matters is so cool," he said. "We can, in a small way, have an influence in people getting recognized."
In a move based more on political considerations than financial ones, Warner Bros. has opted not to release The Dark Knight in the Chinese market. "Based on a number of prerelease conditions that are being attached to The Dark Knight as well as cultural sensitivities to some elements of the film, we have opted to forgo a theatrical release of the film in China," the studio says in a statement.
Since most batfans on the mainland have likely seen the film on a pirated DVD, the move is unlikely to hurt the film's ticket sales ($996 million so far) but will keep Dark Knight from creeping closer to Titanic's all-time record $1.8 billion.
Studio execs were undoubtedly wary of offending the communist government's touchy Ministry of Culture, which has to approve all films for release in the country. In particular, The Dark Knight features some pretty intense action sequences set in Hong Kong—the Caped Crusader kidnaps a Chinese executive to circumvent extradition laws and hauls him back for a little Gotham City justice.
There's no word exactly what "prerelease conditions" Chinese censors demanded from the studio. But it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to suggest they wanted Warners to dramatically alter the sequence, which could be deemed an affront to national pride in suggesting that Batman operates above Chinese law.
And that would have been a nonstarter, since the studio and director Christopher Nolan felt the rendition scenes are integral to the film's plot. Those Chinese censors are more daunting than the Joker and Two-Face combined.
Oscar favourite Brokeback Mountain has been effectively banned from cinemas in China, it has been reported. Censors ruled the gay cowboy romance too controversial to be shown in the country where homosexuality is a taboo, industry paper Daily Variety said.
TDK and Brokeback are treasures, works of art in every way.
TDK is stylish, original, emotional and the best Batman film I have ever seen. The actors are so good in it; Gary Oldman literally is Commissioner Gordon in it, and you all know how I feel about Bale's and Heath's, and Aaron Eckhart's performances. The ending is so very well done too.
BI - Which couple has several difficult decisions to make now that their fake marriage is over?
Alex Young isn't an actor so Kate Walsh/Alex Young don't fit the clues, but this is an interesting bit of gossip from Perez:
"As we mentioned earlier this month, Private Practive star Kate Walsh and her hubby of a year, Alex Young, are calling it quits. Young, a 20th Century Fox exec filed for divorce on November 22 due to "irreconcilable differences."
Wonder what the real reason for the split is? We do to! Now, this is completely unsubstantiated and just a rumor, but...
Word on the street is that Alex left Kate for his former college roommate. Yes, a man! An openly gay lawyer named Michael.
An hour conversation with Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee and actor Heath Ledger about their film "Brokeback Mountain". The film is an adaptation of Annie Proulx' critically acclaimed short story and has received much attention for its bold portrayal of a homosexual relationship among two cowboys in Wyoming.
Mother admits abusing 16-year-old son for being gay
A woman in Scotland has admitted in court that she sent homophobic text messages and shouted abuse at her own child because he is gay. 42-year-old Celia Duncan, from Aberdeen, had previously thrown her 16-year-old son Stuart O'Neill out of the family home. She will be sentenced next year.
Duncan shouted abuse at her son when she saw him walking with his boyfriend and sent the texts when he would not speak to her.
Stuart, who lives with his boyfriend, told the Daily Record: "I feel really hurt by what my mum has done. She doesn't like the fact that I'm gay. About six months ago, she told me to stop it or get out of the house. She's betrayed me. What she said was vile and hurtful."
No BBM and TDK in China? Seems they're not feeling the Heath love there.
They do - illegally.
March 7, 2006
The Chinese government and its media policy never cease to amaze me. I know it's not a laughing matter – many courageous people are jailed, fired and bullied every year for speaking out against the Communist Party – but I can't help chuckling a little. The situation itself is not funny, but some of the ridiculous battles the Chinese government tries to fight are.
On my daily radio show, we discuss current lifestyle and cultural topics with young Chinese listeners. The program is broadcast across China and internationally. It's pretty benign, but it's fun. My co-host and I introduce a topic and then invite people from around the country to contact us with text messages or the internet.
The program is quite popular and I like hearing what the average Chinese youth or college kid thinks about various issues. In a land of over a billion people, it's a good way to make our listeners feel appreciated. This is where the government policy part comes in. In China, as in Canada, many moviegoers are talking about Brokeback Mountain. However, unlike in Canada, the controversial Ang Lee film will not be shown on the big screen because of its homosexual content.
I guess the Communist Central Government feels a film like Brokeback Mountain will undermine the "Harmonious Society" it has worked so hard to promote. (Meanwhile, you can buy a pirated DVD copy of the movie on every street corner, at every subway entrance, and every illegal DVD shop in Beijing.) ...
Beijing, April, 2: Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee is widely seen as a national treasure in China, but that hasn’t stopped censors here from banning Brokeback Mountain, his latest Oscar-winning film about two gay cowboys. Just weeks ago, Lee had lauded Asia for embracing a more open-minded view of sexuality, and the China Daily, a local government-controlled newspaper, had called him the “pride of Chinese people all over the world”.
But the fact is that homosexuality is still on the list of banned subject matters for films in China, said Liu Bing Jian, a film director in Beijing, whose own award-wining film about homosexuality and blurred gender identity, Man and Woman, was banned here in 1999.
“It’s a subject the government does not like to talk about,” said Liu. “There’s no doubt our society has developed a more open attitude recently, but the fact is we have thousands of years of feudal history and this takes time to change. In that sense the government might be a bit behind the people.”
While the official decision to ban Lee’s film does seem out of step with street culture in cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, where gay bars, magazines and websites have proliferated, it is also a bit futile. Most people in this country of lax intellectual property rights laws watch their movies on pirated DVDs and copies of Brokeback Mountain can be found in every street corner of Beijing.
I will admit that when I'm watching a movie in a theater and some dumb ass whore is yapping away like they are sitting in their damn living room, I think to myself, "Damn. I want to turn this straw into a shank and stab this bitch in the mouth!" Well, some dude in Philadelphia had even worse thoughts and carried that shit out!
29-year-old James Joseph Cialella was arrested after he shot a dude in the damn arm for running his mouth during a showing of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in Philadelphia on Christmas Day. I think James Joseph Cialella just became an honorary Brangaloonie for busting a bitch during Brad's movie!
Police say that James asked a family sitting in front of him to shut their damn mouths during the movie. They didn't stop, so he threw popcorn at their asses. When that didn't shut their mouth holes, James got up and approached the family. James had words with the father, the argument got physical and that's when he pulled out a gat and shot the man in his arm. After James put a bullet in the father's arm, he sat back down and continued to watch the movie like nothing happened. The victim was taken to the hospital and James was arrested. He was charged with with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons violations.
DAMN! Hood rat stuff to the extreme. Over Benjamin Button? I mean, what the fuck? Maybe James has a strange fetish for Brad Pitt in old face. I could see beating a ho over Showgirls or Marley & Me (BURN!!!), but Benjamin Button?! I swear, some people should not be allowed to leave the comfort of their own padded room. James shouldn't even be allowed to carry a watergun anymore. Talk about over-fucking-reacting.
This also serves as a warning to me, because I'm one of those bitches who tells whores to shut their fat lips during movies. I've been known to throw in a "Eat your tongue, cunt!" or "Shut the fuck up" to bitches who are ruining my theater going experience. The next time I do that shit, I could get shot in the arm! That must suck, laying there with a bleeding arm, thinking that the last thing you'll ever see is Brad Pitt with pepaw face. Sad!
Dustin Hoffman's Dirty "Tootsie" Sex Story (VIDEO)
Dustin Hoffman told a filthy [I would say cheeky], bleeped-out anecdote from his "Tootsie" days while on "The Late Show" this week. After Letterman held up a photo of Hoffman in his Dorothy Michaels costume, Hoffman said he had a dirty story and was cheered into telling it.
While filming the 80's classic, Hoffman went in costume once over to Woody Allen's office, where he bumped into Jose Ferrer in the elevator.
Leo is politically correct and a nice young man :)
Leonardo DiCaprio: Swimming with sharks and back in deep water with Kate Winslet
... ‘When I was 16, I got a role with Robert De Niro and Ellen Barkin in This Boy’s Life, and I knew I’d hit the lottery and that I’d better respect it.
'Success is not something to be flippant about because it can easily go away. It is so much about timing. I know how difficult it is to be a working actor, let alone being in a position to choose the projects you want to do.’
Asked if he has a secret fallback, he says: ‘If I was unable to act commercially, I would start doing movies with my friends for no money. 'There is no Plan B. I love acting and I still have a desire to make great movies and to put in some great performances. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. I don’t think that desire will ever leave me.’
He admits that he was completely caught unawares by the success of Titanic. ‘It was never my intention to have my image shown around the world,’ he says.
Or to see barbers in Afghanistan arrested as they enraged the Taliban by offering a Leo DiCaprio-style haircut labelled The Titanic. At an airport in Paris, a teenager grabbed his leg and pressed her head into it. He tried to tell her that if she let go he’d talk to her, but she wouldn’t loosen her grip.
'But I still wasn’t getting it. It wasn’t until Japan that I realised that this movie had had this insane impact. At that point, all I knew was that I had to take a break from it.’ Post-Titanic, his fee leapt from $1 million to $10 million but he refused every blockbuster he was offered, famously passing on Spider-Man, which turned his childhood friend Tobey Maguire into a mega-star.
It turns out the break from film-making provided DiCaprio with the impetus to pursue his other great passion: the environment.
‘Since I was a kid I’ve been passionate about different species being pushed into extinction and that propelled me to request a meeting with Al Gore in the White House. He said to me, “There’s this thing called global warming and it’s going to come to fruition in a horrific way in our future so if you’re going to get behind any issue, this is the one to get behind.”’ Since then, DiCaprio has become the most vocal and committed of Hollywood eco-activists. In 2000, he gave an impassioned speech challenging the incoming President Bush to pay attention to the issue.
And last year he premiered his full-length documentary feature on the state of the planet, 11th Hour, at the Cannes Film Festival. It had a mixed reception and DiCaprio was criticised for the perceived opulence of his jet-set lifestyle. ‘Just to clarify,’ he says. ‘I flew commercial.’
Despite his environmental campaigning, DiCaprio insists he is not the Hollywood poster child for all things green. ‘This is not about me,’ he says. ‘And it’s not about one group of people telling any other group of people how to live. I don’t think it’s fair to tell people to install solar panels, buy (low-watt) light bulbs or drive a hybrid – that’s not a reality for most people.
'It is about something much, much bigger. It’s about getting the governments of the world to implement environmental policy. 'We are the most powerful country in the world and we haven’t made a tiptoe towards renewable technologies. We should be the ones paving the way, the ones other countries look up to. It makes me extremely sad.
‘I was in Rome when Obama won the election. He represents a whole new era. Obama gets it that green technology and the economy go hand in hand, that we can build an industry that will create new jobs and economic growth and make us less reliant on foreign oil.’ He’s recently traded in his Toyota Prius hybrid car for a £100,000 Tesla, the first high-performance electric car. ‘It’s my first sports car and it’s an unbelievable drive,’ he enthuses. ‘It’s scarily fast and it all happens with the flip of a switch, unlike a piston-driven engine that needs to build up momentum.’
Revolutionary Road marks another phase in his career, as it’s the first time he has played a husband and father – roles he’s not so keen to experience in real life just yet.
He constantly sidesteps questions about ‘settling down’ or personal topics and confesses his life is not easy on relationships. ‘It’s a weird industry because you go off on these locations for four, five, six months and have to put everything on hold. 'Life does not happen while you are working and you can’t hone your relationships back home at the same time. Then you come back and have to catch up with everything.’
His publicist is making gestures that the interview is over, but I have one more question: does he ever feel trapped by celebrity?
‘I have absolutely nothing to complain about,’ he says. ‘I just got really, really lucky.’
Post-Titanic, his fee leapt from $1 million to $10 million but he refused every blockbuster he was offered, famously passing on Spider-Man, which turned his childhood friend Tobey Maguire into a mega-star.
Popsugar has pics of Maggie and Peter walking around in NYC earlier in the week. So unless someone has a pic to prove Jake was in NYC, looks like Jake spent the holiday without being with his sis and niece. His been away for months and then doesn't even spend some Holiday time with them. For a brother and sister that were so close, their actions speak loudly that they seem to have drifted apart. I wonder if it's because Maggie doesn't support the whole bearding thing and wonder if she can even stomach Reese. http://popsugar.com/2638880
It's possible that the daughter took Dad's side, while the son is partial to his Mom's side. A house divided.
Don't forget that Mom was spotted with Reese, while Maggie and Dad weren't. Also Mom can't stand A.
Somebody was digging old interviews (of Maggie). Maggie was furious that Mom didn't teach her daughter what other Moms do: that she needs to wax, needs to wear a bra, needs to dress with sophistication; she had to learn the hard way (embarassing photos) what self-pampering is expected from a girl who is an actress. I perfectly understand if she's furious.
The mom hating A is pure fan fic, repeated as truth. Please point to proof of this and please don't say insider info because I can say the same. Fanfic that was posted on imdb a few years ago (and please don't link to the cut and paste crap that someone saved, that woman who posted that sounds like she writes slash).
We have no idea what his mother thinks of A, or Reese or his what sister thinks based on pap pics.
It's all speculation and from the outside looking in appears that both Maggie and Jake have distanced themselves from their parents for whatever reasons.
Reese was attached to the film Amelia with Naomi doing the screenplay, but WTL came along (H.Swank did the Amelia film) Also both naomi and Reese are on the board of directors of the L.A. chapter of the Childrens defense fund.
In 1998 Jake's dad directed Ryan Phillipe in Homegrown, Jake was in that film and I think Naomi did the screenplay and Jake was in the film, Ryan and Reese were dating for a year at that point.
Someone posted on the DL a few weeks back that last year Jake's dad was supposed to direct a movie and he was going over a list of actor's he has worked with for possible casting. Ryan's name came up and he said that no way, Jake would kill him because he is with Reese. Since HW is incestious regarding dating I took that , if true is that Jake is now dating Reese and that Ryan treated Reese like shit and you better not hire him, as per Stephen.
Maggie is a 30 year old woman with a fiance and daughter and lives in NY ,the fiance's family based on the east coast. She has her own life, I really don't expect her to be hanging with her brother all the time anymore.
Jake is west coast based. I beleive Jake is BI and is with Reese but they are not as serious about it as the rags report, more of a convience/comfy relationship.

Not true, DL poster did not say "because he is with Reese".
Since HW is incestious regarding dating I took that , if true is that Jake is now dating Reese and that Ryan treated Reese like shit and you better not hire him, as per Stephen.
Naomi wasn't spotted with Reese. Reese attended a private Brothers screening and left alone, in her own car. There were no pictures of Reeke nor pictures of Reese and Naomi.
True, he didn't say "because he is with Reese", that was speculation based on his comment "Jake will kill me". Again speculation based on a quote.
If Stephen is covering Jake's gay ass, then that quote from his blog on Jake's b-day was not him lamenting him bearding or outing him as a few here speculated but a father saddened by his son's distancing himself from his father for whatever reasons.
Why would anyone think that his father dissaprove of him bearding if he is covering his gay ass? Papa appoves.
Mama is either invisible or she is iding in the back seat, if she was in the car she would be visible. From the Brothers screening, the dissappearing Mama:
Why the hell would she be sittng behind her son?? What is he, a cab driver, LOL!! Looking at those pics, she is neither sitting next to him or behind him unless she is hiding under the seat in shame, LOL!!!
Why does it bother you that Mama had her own car and drove there and back home like veryone else?
If I recall, there was a video with Jake, his Mom and his agent standing by his car, Mom then walked away and so did the agent and Jake went bye-bye giving the paps the evil eye.
Popsugar has pics of Maggie and Peter walking around in NYC earlier in the week. So unless someone has a pic to prove Jake was in NYC, looks like Jake spent the holiday without being with his sis and niece.
Jake returned to LA and we didn't see any airport pictures. Why is it so hard to understand that paparazzi don't follow Jake around?
London and Paris visiting Maggie and Ramona, not the States. Interesting, was Maggie working overseas??
I always found it interseting that Maggie talks about being in therapy so freely and while she was making Sherry baby, a movie that was so disturbing on many levels.
You know, recently, I caught myself thinking about how much I got caught in the whole Jake and Reese situation. I kinda started forgetting about him as an actor, his craft, his upcoming films, even about how plain beautiful he is, with Reese or not. And I've decided to stop speculating. I don't care who is in his bed anymore, it's not me, anyway. I got lost and forgot that Jake is an actor not a sex toy.
If the promotion of Jake and Reese as a couple was turned down a bit, maybe people would concentrate on Jake's films, Jake as the actor, etc. They can't be in magazines like US, OK, Star, People, and expect people to take their work seriously. Or at least be in them so much. They want to be the next Brangelina or something.
Wait you mean Jake is still a relevant actor? I forgot that, what with him being Mr. Witherspoon-it's been his only starring role for the past 2yrs & it looks like it will me his only starring role in 2009 also. Brothers doesn't sound like blockbuster or Oscar material and Nailed is probably straight to DVD cause it sounds so bad.
I kinda started forgetting about him as an actor, his craft, his upcoming films...
Never! lol
CAREY MULLIGAN
Carey Mulligan more than held her own opposite Kristin Scott Thomas and Peter Sarsgaard in the hit Broadway production of "The Seagull." Now the British actor is poised to make an equally impressive run on the big screen, with four Mulligan films set for release in 2009.
After a small role in 2005's "Pride & Prejudice," Mulligan was cast as the lead in "An Education," a coming-of-age drama set in 1960s London that will premiere in January's Sundance Film Festival. Mulligan, 23, also has a part in Pierce Brosnan's "The Greatest" (also at Sundance), plays opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in "Brothers" and will turn up alongside Johnny Depp in "Public Enemies."
"Carey is in every scene -- and her development is amazing," Lone Sherfig, the director of "An Education," says of the movie based on a Nick Hornby screenplay. "She is very technical, but she never shows the audience that she knows what the director or writer wants. She has a wide, wide range. And there's a big difference between being right for the part and being able to carry a film."
I actually don't care about his personal life either, other than a passing "isn't that nice" about whoever he may be involved with, as I would anyone in the public eye. But IMO we're getting force-fed Reeke.
TOUGH times call for tough measures. When Daniel Radcliffe took the lead role in "Equus," producers promised they wouldn't exploit the fact that the young "Harry Potter" star appears full-frontally nude in the second act. But now that the economic chill sweeping Broadway has turned into full-blown pneumonia, an advertisement for the Peter Shaffer play has appeared showing Radcliffe naked to below his navel. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do to sell some tickets.
WDW summarized Jake pretty well yesterday. Jake is a performer. Heath was an actor. Nothing wrong with either. Just a statement of fact. When you put yourself in the limelight, you take the good with the bad. Everything about you becomes open to public speculation, including your sex life. Jake opened himself up to scrutiny when he was about to come out and was seen out and about with Austin. Then again, when he pulled the Rome reversal trying to sell himself as straight.
Bradly you are getting OLD! Jake is hot and young. Maybe he'll become Finchies next muse? Angie will lose interest in your old ass and hook up with Jake. They can raise the six kids, maybe have some of their own and have fun with same sex partners on the side. Wouldn't it be perfect?
^^ I wouldn't call Jake an amazing actor. (I'm saying this as a fan who'd love to fuck him.) He's very solid though, I'd compare his acting abilities with Clooney's.
When Daniel Radcliffe took the lead role in "Equus," producers promised they wouldn't exploit the fact that the young "Harry Potter" star appears full-frontally nude in the second act.
I wonder how Daniel's fans feel about the opportunity to see his naughty bits.
The primary and election season seemed to go on forever. But at last we have a newly chosen president, which makes me wonder just how relevant the satirical drama Farragut North will prove. Beau Willimon’s quite humorous yet dark new play opened November 12 in an Atlantic Theatre Company production, directed by Doug Hughes. It takes place during several crucial days in a presidential primary campaign, the year being 2008, as the two leading Democratic candidates at the Iowa caucuses are battling for victory. A former political operative himself, Willimon is fascinated with the behind-the-scenes battles, strategies, and betrayals of those who run the campaign: not the candidates (whom we never see on stage) but the professional spin-masters. Their commitment to the process -- the game -- is like pit bulls at a dog fight. It’s an adrenalin rush.
At the hectic heart of this play stands Stephen, the 25-year-old hot-shot press secretary for the liberal, charismatic Morris (probably based on Howard Dean, for whom Willimon worked in 2004, but with touches of Obama rhetoric). In the opening scene Stephen is so brimming with enthusiasm and drive, it’s as if he is high on the political process. Totally wired, he sits telling war stories of prior campaigns. The intimate group gathered over drinks in an anonymous restaurant includes the campaign manager, Paul, a political reporter, Ida, and an underling, Ben.
They are all full of themselves, their loud voices overlapping as each tries to top the others with amazing tales of the campaign trail. Paul, as the oldest of the group, wields his clout with charm, energy, and even self-deprecation, but manages to make sure they all know that he is the boss. Ida is writing a profile on Paul -- warts and all -- and she offers him a ride to the airport, where he is off to a secret destination to clinch a candidate endorsement with some powerful figure. Paul has already set up the art of the leak, via Stephen, so that Ida thinks she’s in the know in ways that she is not supposed to be. And this is just the first scene. The play moves at a lively pace, with one political trick after another, much of it having to do with who has what secret information on whom. It’s all about power, leverage, leaks, spin, and bartering.
And of course the action also includes betrayals -- personal, political, and sexual. Nothing like power to get the sexual juices flowing. Very pretty young intern Molly manages to land in the beds of both Stephen and Paul. She’s 19 and eager, not so cunning as she thinks, but with her own version of Monica’s presidential knee-pads.
What Willimon does very well is witty speech and moral dilemmas. Actually, perhaps, the dilemmas are not so much moral as careerist. The pace is break-neck and the moments of truth actually seem truthful. Stephen manipulates Molly to reveal her secret romp with Paul, in all its sordid details, so that he can use this information to forward his career. Stephen has no moral qualms. He calmly asserts late in the play, “Fine, I’m a monster.” It’s all about being in the game, and if he has to be a spoiler for someone else’s career, so be it.
But then what is the point of this play? To reveal to us just how crass political operatives can be? Surely that’s no surprise. Politics in America has over many years proven a pretty filthy game. Just when we think one side or candidate can sink no further, we are proven wrong. We’ve been living for the last eight years with the team that gave us the big lie. We have been lied to so often and so egregiously that if there is an innocent American left, he must be a hermit.
It’s possibly the wrong moment for this play. We are basking right now in the all-too-rare politics of hope. This production of Farragut North is slick and effective. The directing is strong. The set is crisp and evocative. The acting is brilliant, particularly that of Chris Noth as Paul, John Gallagher, Jr. as Stephen, and Isiah Whitlock, Jr. as the other candidate’s campaign manager. In fact, every actor here is really fine. Even the bedspread in the hotel room where the operatives are staying is perfect. (I think I had the same one at the Ramada Inn in Wilkes-Barre, PA when I was there canvassing for Obama.)
Only the timing of this production is off. It would have been gripping last spring while we were engaged in the process of the primaries. Now, I suspect, most theatergoers would rather not know just how deeply power-hungry and corrupt are those in the inner circle surrounding a presidential candidate. We’d rather believe that change is coming, and that some new dawn -- after the long nightmare of abuse -- is on the horizon.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jake Gyllenhaal Chase the Same Role
Clooney and DiCaprio to Head North: Beau Willimon’s Farragut North, about a communications director working for a fast-rising presidential candidate, must be one hell of a play. Not only is it opening on Broadway next year with Mike Nichols directing Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, but Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play the same role in a forthcoming film version, with George Clooney in talks to direct. When Nichols and Gyllenhaal are your second-stringers, you’re doing pretty well. [Variety]
"When Nichols and Gyllenhaal are your second-stringers, you’re doing pretty well."
Huh? Nichols, I can understand but Gyllenho? When did that happen?!? Well that article if from 2007 when Jake was still his own person and not Reese's boyfriend.
Just Jared has huge pic post on Reeke and their weekend in Ojai where they even had Robert Downey Jr. and his wife stay over 1 night. I'm thinking that if Reeke PR is really into overdrive with the photo ops and are pushing Reeke as the so in love, attached at the hip, Jake the stepdad couple, that Jake's in it for the long haul. Bet that on the Golden Globes red carpet we'll see Reeke walking hand in hand and we'll see the Chin trying to hide her engagement ring. Maybe Reese can't find another guy, so she'll settle for being with her gay guy pal. http://justjared.buzznet.com/2008/12/28/jake-gyllenhaal-robert-downey-jr-ojai/#comment-10289541
Stepping out for a post-Christmas get-together on the hiking trails of Ojai, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were spotted out exercising with Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan on Friday (December 26).
In what was a who’s who of Hollywood royalty, a source on the scene tells that “the group seemed to enjoy each other’s company immensely, talking and laughing while hiking in the beautiful Ojai mountainside.”
While the ladies stuck together side-by-side, a sporty Jake and a bohemian Robert were particularly friendly and engaged as they walked next to one another.
Apparently having too much fun to call it quits, the insider tells, “Robert and Susan seemed so happy that they returned to Reese’s Ojai home to stay for dinner and spend the night.”
The next day, the Downeys took Reese and Jake for a spin in his Bentley to get some coffee before heading back and saying their goodbyes. Afterwards, Jake and Reese were spotted visiting a clothing store and a hardware shop - during which time Reese helped Jake shop for socks and then he bought a drill to help with some domestic maintenance at Reese’s Ojai home.
By themselves on Sunday, the “Legally Blonde” beauty and her “Brokeback Mountain” beau were spotted out on a coffee run and a trip to the farmer’s market, clad in matching black bubble jackets.
^^ Maybe with Dad? He is back from Australia.....Reese gets Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.....Ryan gets them for the rest of the weekend? Not in the know or anything just a guess
Power tools? How manly. I guess that PR told him to drop the lingerie-buying trips and yoga classes. I guess that it's better to build tables in Ojai with your gal-pal with another closet case (Downey) and avoid your family than worry about who didn't show up for your fake birthday party.

The big birthday party was just spinning from Liz Smith, I never ecalled Jake having any major birthday bash hrown by his family nor Kiki nor Reese for Ryan.
Liz prolly heard that he was getting his b-day off and she spun to make it sound intersting.
I would asume that the kids are with Ryan, that's why he flew home, I assume the kids spent x-mas with Reese.

ReplyDeleteChristmas 2006

As only one of many poor souls who have been called upon in this life to regularly pin his mittens to his jacket, I had a good laugh over that Stephen story.
Jake is so in synch with his father I can't even begin to tell you.

ReplyDeleteReichen Lehmkuhl [Lance Bass's Ex] switches hats for his second column and leaves the activist at the door as he offers some sage advice for Hollywood hopefuls. Whether you're gay or straight, what Reichen has to say about "talent" puts the business that is entertainment into perspective.
ReplyDeleteWading Your Way Through Hollywood
Thanks to everyone who read and commented on my last column, covering the current state of the train wreck known as “don’t ask, don’t tell” within our nation’s military ranks. The most common comment I received from readers of Advocate.com was that they had no idea that in 2008 a military member could be taken to court and punished, criminally, for being gay. Yes, it can happen, it does happen, and it’s all paid for by your tax dollars.
Switching gears to a lighter subject, but one that draws equally from my experience: the hopes and dreams of so many young people who come to Hollywood with dreams of "making it."
...

ReplyDeleteHow Disney Killed Off Its Billion-Dollar 'Narnia' Franchise

Yes! anon 1:20, he can.

ReplyDeleteIf it had been Chris with Jake in that room, they would not have gone to such lengths to keep him hidden. Chris, long time family friend. They could have sold a reason for him to be with the group. Austin on the other hand, there only because he is Jake's lover. They got him out of there ASAP.

ReplyDeleteFirst pics and preview of Sigourney Weaver in "Prayers for Bobby"
Prayers for Bobby
Prayers for Bobby seems likes it's gonna be pretty good. Gotta mark the date on my calendar. The Ryan Kelly guy looks very small. Looks like he's only 125lbs.
ReplyDeleteWhen will Austin be featured? It's good he's working alot, but I would think he would now be more of a Featured actor in his roles. It seems some no name actors still get featured or billed above him. I don't know any of the young guys feature in the stills, or maybe it's me and the two guys are more known than Austin. I think sometimes it's who's managing you. Austin, get a new team man. Dump the manager.
Prayers for Bobby seems likes it's gonna be pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI hope so.

ReplyDeleteOscar winners and wannabes in UK February releases

Announcing the 2008 AfterElton.com Visibility Awards
ReplyDeleteLast year, the staff of AfterElton.com got together to choose the people and media images that we thought best represented gay and bisexual men.

Trio of Hosts Named for Golden Globes

There's always a first time to have a general host, or a change of plans? Hasn't Jake been a presenter at the GGs before?
This will be Jake's third time being a presenter at the GG's, he did it in '05 and '07.
ReplyDeleteIf Jake, Glenn and Rick were going to co-host, it would have been announced on 12/23 when they announced that the trio was added as presenters along with a long list of other presenters.

Lance Armstrong Made A Baby
ReplyDeleteWho says you need two nuts to make a baby?

ReplyDeleteDark Knight Can't Climb Great Wall
The Batman is bowing out of China.

ReplyDeleteChinese censors 'ban' Brokeback
Oscar favourite Brokeback Mountain has been effectively banned from cinemas in China, it has been reported. Censors ruled the gay cowboy romance too controversial to be shown in the country where homosexuality is a taboo, industry paper Daily Variety said.
TDK and Brokeback are treasures, works of art in every way.
ReplyDeleteTDK is stylish, original, emotional and the best Batman film I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteAlex Young isn't an actor so Kate Walsh/Alex Young don't fit the clues, but this is an interesting bit of gossip from Perez:
"As we mentioned earlier this month, Private Practive star Kate Walsh and her hubby of a year, Alex Young, are calling it quits. Young, a 20th Century Fox exec filed for divorce on November 22 due to "irreconcilable differences."
Wonder what the real reason for the split is? We do to! Now, this is completely unsubstantiated and just a rumor, but...
Word on the street is that Alex left Kate for his former college roommate. Yes, a man! An openly gay lawyer named Michael.
Scandalicious!!!! We sure hope that's true!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteAn hour conversation with Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee and actor Heath Ledger about their film "Brokeback Mountain". The film is an adaptation of Annie Proulx' critically acclaimed short story and has received much attention for its bold portrayal of a homosexual relationship among two cowboys in Wyoming.

Mother admits abusing 16-year-old son for being gay
ReplyDeleteA woman in Scotland has admitted in court that she sent homophobic text messages and shouted abuse at her own child because he is gay.

(Meanwhile, you can buy a pirated DVD copy of the movie on every street corner, at every subway entrance, and every illegal DVD shop in Beijing.)

ReplyDeleteAng hero, movie villain in China

Dear James Cialella, It's Not That Serious!
ReplyDeleteI will admit that when I'm watching a movie in a theater and some dumb ass whore is yapping away like they are sitting in their damn living room, I think to myself, "Damn.
Sad!
Dlisted
Fincher will be pleased.
ReplyDeleteJames is a bit too intense, but he appreciates true art! lol
I could see beating a ho...
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't like or condone this misogynistic stuff on Dlisted. Violence is never acceptable, even if directed at ho's.

ReplyDeleteDustin Hoffman's Dirty "Tootsie" Sex Story (VIDEO)
ReplyDeleteDustin Hoffman told a filthy [I would say cheeky], bleeped-out anecdote from his "Tootsie" days while on "The Late Show" this week.
Naughty Dustin

ReplyDeleteMichael K is sexist and racist.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. Michael K has a big, dirty mouth, that's all.
ReplyDeleteLeo is politically correct and a nice young man :)
ReplyDeleteLeonardo DiCaprio: Swimming with sharks and back in deep water with Kate Winslet
But it was in Tokyo that DiCaprio was to fully experience the reality of his new-found superstardom. Despite advice to the contrary, he reached into a melée of teenage girls to accept a bunch of flowers. They hauled him into the crowd and began pulling off his clothes before his bodyguards could rescue him. I ask if it was frightening. ‘I wasn’t scared because it was these little girls, although there were a lot of them,’ he grins. ‘But it was weird because I really had no idea what had been unleashed. It was like being hit head-on by a truck. People kept saying to me, “This film is really successful, Leo. This is one of… in fact, this is the most successful movie of all time.”
Obama gets it that green technology and the economy go hand in hand, that we can build an industry that will create new jobs and economic growth and make us less reliant on foreign oil.’
He’s recently traded in his Toyota Prius hybrid car for a £100,000 Tesla, the first high-performance electric car.

ReplyDeletehttp://popsugar.com/2638880
It's possible that the daughter took Dad's side, while the son is partial to his Mom's side. A house divided.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget that Mom was spotted with Reese, while Maggie and Dad weren't.
Don't forget that Mom was spotted with Reese
ReplyDeleteWhen was it?
Naomi has known Reese for a long time.
ReplyDeleteWe have no idea what his mother thinks of A, or Reese or his what sister thinks based on pap pics.
So unless someone has a pic to prove Jake was in NYC, looks like Jake spent the holiday without being with his sis and niece.
ReplyDeleteRemember DC forum member's report about meeting Jake on the PoP movie set (ACLU auction)? Date was moved because Jake got a free NYC weekend.
We didn't see any NYC pictures.
Someone posted on the DL a few weeks back that last year Jake's dad was supposed to direct a movie and he was going over a list of actor's he has worked with for possible casting. Ryan's name came up and he said that no way, Jake would kill him because he is with Reese.
ReplyDeleteNot true, DL poster did not say "because he is with Reese".
... more of a convience/comfy relationship
ReplyDeleteYou got that right, fauxmance is a relationship of pure convenience.
Since HW is incestious regarding dating I took that , if true is that Jake is now dating Reese and that Ryan treated Reese like shit and you better not hire him, as per Stephen.
ReplyDeleteStephen was covering Jake's gay ass.
Don't forget that Mom was spotted with Reese
ReplyDeleteNaomi wasn't spotted with Reese.
Reese attended a private Brothers screening and left alone, in her own car. There were no pictures of Reeke nor pictures of Reese and Naomi.
True, he didn't say "because he is with Reese", that was speculation based on his comment "Jake will kill me". Again speculation based on a quote.
ReplyDeleteIf Stephen is covering Jake's gay ass, then that quote from his blog on Jake's b-day was not him lamenting him bearding or outing him as a few here speculated but a father saddened by his son's distancing himself from his father for whatever reasons.
Why would anyone think that his father dissaprove of him bearding if he is covering his gay ass? Papa appoves.
Also both naomi and Reese are on the board of directors of the L.A. chapter of the Childrens defense fund.
ReplyDeleteNaomi is not on the board of directors.
There were no pics of Naomiin Jake's car either, nor Sherdan nor his agent, it appeared that they all left in their own cars.
ReplyDeleteNaomi only appears in one or 2 pics then dissapears, Jake is seen in his own car driving away with no passengers, odd.
That was the last tiem jake was seen in public with his mom.
Jake's car had tinted windows (if I remember correctly), we can't be sure about the passengers.
ReplyDeleteIf Stephen is covering Jake's gay ass, then that quote from his blog on Jake's b-day was not him lamenting him bearding or outing him
ReplyDeletePapa is a poet, we can't be sure what he's writing about.
Mama is either invisible or she is iding in the back seat, if she was in the car she would be visible. From the Brothers screening, the dissappearing Mama:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.iheartjakemedia.com/displayimage.php?album=1225&pos=30
Reese is on the board of the CDF, Naomi has ben involved in the group like fundraising and stuff.
Papa writes shitty poetry and is about to file for bankruptcy.
Babblers, stop posting BS.
ReplyDeleteif she was in the car she would be visible
ReplyDeleteNot if she was sitting behind Jake.
Why the hell would she be sittng behind her son?? What is he, a cab driver, LOL!! Looking at those pics, she is neither sitting next to him or behind him unless she is hiding under the seat in shame, LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does it bother you that Mama had her own car and drove there and back home like veryone else?
If I recall, there was a video with Jake, his Mom and his agent standing by his car, Mom then walked away and so did the agent and Jake went bye-bye giving the paps the evil eye.
^^ :)
ReplyDeleteWhy does it bother you that Mama had her own car and drove there and back home like veryone else?
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying the obvious - we don't know if Naomi was in Jake's car.
Mama had her own car and is quite capable of driving. Jake was in the car solo.
ReplyDeletePS: Papa writes shitty poetry
That was the last tiem jake was seen in public with his mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Jake is very close to his mother.
This conversation is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSomebody was digging old interviews (of Maggie). ... I perfectly understand if she's furious.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
Someone is trying hard to invent the reason for Maggie to "take Dad's side".
FWIT, Maggie was photographed recently,in the fall? in London or Paris, cant remember which, with Stephen.
ReplyDeleteMaggie was photographed in the springtime in London with her dad and then a few weeks later in Paris with her mom and Ramona.
ReplyDeletePopsugar has pics of Maggie and Peter walking around in NYC earlier in the week. So unless someone has a pic to prove Jake was in NYC, looks like Jake spent the holiday without being with his sis and niece.
ReplyDeleteJake returned to LA and we didn't see any airport pictures. Why is it so hard to understand that paparazzi don't follow Jake around?
London and Paris visiting Maggie and Ramona, not the States. Interesting, was Maggie working overseas??
ReplyDeleteI always found it interseting that Maggie talks about being in therapy so freely and while she was making Sherry baby, a movie that was so disturbing on many levels.
Interesting, was Maggie working overseas??
ReplyDeleteNot filming, something about Paris Fashion Week.
but a father saddened by his son's distancing himself from his father for whatever reasons.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
Just because Jake wasn't photographed with Maggie and Peter doesn't mean he wasn't there.
ReplyDeleteHe probably was with Reese 24/7. Can't afford to anger his superstar galpal.
ReplyDeleteJake wasn't with Reese, the beard doesn’t call all the shots.
ReplyDeleteJake wasn't with Reese
ReplyDeleteWe don't know this.
Yes, we do 11:46 AM. Bearding, showmance - look it up.
ReplyDeleteYou know, recently, I caught myself thinking about how much I got caught in the whole Jake and Reese situation.
ReplyDelete"This conversation is ridiculous."
ReplyDeleteIn that case a lot of conversations here are ridiculous!
We don't know whether he was or wasn't with her. The smoke put out there said either LA, Tennessee, or even NYC. Lots of vague ground covered by fog.
ReplyDelete11:55 AM
ReplyDeleteJake wasn't with Reese, like he wasn't with Reese last Christmas. Fog, smoke and mirrors are there for a reason.
11:54 AM
ReplyDeleteWhatever the reason, Jake reduced himself to a cheap PR whore.
ReplyDeleteThey want to be the next Brangelina or something.
ReplyDeleteThey wish, although Brangelina are a joke in itself too. Non of my friends take them seriously.
I don't believe for a second that Jake is dating Reese. Reeke might organize a bit of PR for the holidays, but that's business.
ReplyDeleteIf the promotion of Jake and Reese as a couple was turned down a bit, maybe people would concentrate on Jake's films, Jake as the actor, etc.
ReplyDeleteJake is used to promote Reese.
This conversation is boring
ReplyDeletePost something interesting 12:23 PM!
ReplyDeleteWait you mean Jake is still a relevant actor? I forgot that, what with him being Mr. Witherspoon-it's been his only starring role for the past 2yrs & it looks like it will me his only starring role in 2009 also. Brothers doesn't sound like blockbuster or Oscar material and Nailed is probably straight to DVD cause it sounds so bad.
ReplyDeleteI kinda started forgetting about him as an actor, his craft, his upcoming films...
ReplyDeleteNever!
Carey Mulligan
^^I have to echo that "Never!" as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually don't care about his personal life either, other than a passing "isn't that nice" about whoever he may be involved with, as I would anyone in the public eye. But IMO we're getting force-fed Reeke.
Im very interested in his personal, indeed, his sex life, or I wouldnt be posting on this blog.
ReplyDeleteVery interested in the size of his willy.
Ummm - lets see what else -
I'm a Nosy Parker but very personal things, like sex life details, are too much info - I'm not THAT curious.

ReplyDeleteSHOWING SKIN
ReplyDeleteJake should hook up with Angelina Jolie!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteAnd what am I, chopped liver?
ReplyDeleteBradly you are getting OLD! Jake is hot and young. Maybe he'll become Finchies next muse? Angie will lose interest in your old ass and hook up with Jake. They can raise the six kids, maybe have some of their own and have fun with same sex partners on the side. Wouldn't it be perfect?
ReplyDeleteWDW summarized Jake pretty well yesterday.
ReplyDeleteJust to be clear: Kate would never suggest what you said - she was making a point about Jake being an amazing actor.
Brad proved himself as a great manny and an A-list actor so Jake doesn't stand a chance (yet).
ReplyDelete^^
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call Jake an amazing actor. (I'm saying this as a fan who'd love to fuck him.) He's very solid though, I'd compare his acting abilities with Clooney's.
I disagree with everything that's been said so far.
ReplyDeleteI think he's pretty wierd all around, including a pretty strange phiz, but his body is gorgeous.
3:44 PM
ReplyDeleteWDW Kate is a nice fangirl --> Jake can be only amazing or super amazing.
I disagree with everything that's been said so far.
ReplyDeleteHuh?
When Daniel Radcliffe took the lead role in "Equus," producers promised they wouldn't exploit the fact that the young "Harry Potter" star appears full-frontally nude in the second act.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how Daniel's fans feel about the opportunity to see his naughty bits.
Jake is a performer. Heath was an actor. Nothing wrong with either.
ReplyDeleteTrue that.
"Jake is a performer. Heath was an actor. Nothing wrong with either.
ReplyDeleteTrue that."
I dont know how true is either of these statements. seems much too early to tell.
Remember Farragut North?
ReplyDeleteNovember 17, 2008
Going for the Political Jugular

ReplyDeleteLeonardo DiCaprio and Jake Gyllenhaal Chase the Same Role
Clooney and DiCaprio to Head North: Beau Willimon’s Farragut North, about a communications director working for a fast-rising presidential candidate, must be one hell of a play. Not only is it opening on Broadway next year with Mike Nichols directing Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, but Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play the same role in a forthcoming film version, with George Clooney in talks to direct. When Nichols and Gyllenhaal are your second-stringers, you’re doing pretty well. [Variety]
Jake and Jolie? Nah, Angelina has way too much class for JG, the lying bastard!

ReplyDeleteIm concerned about the timing of Brothers, also. Are we going to be in the mood to see Tobey get the shit beat out of him by guys in turbans? I dunno.
As for Nailed - cough cough ahem - Id love to see this film dumped in the briney.

ReplyDeleteNo, not now, not ever. Hopefully some will be interested in the love story / drama part.

ReplyDeleteWhy?
I'm looking forward to Brothers, but can't wait to see Nailed!

Why? Dont care for David O Russell, and the story sounds idiotic. To each his own. . . .
Don't care for Russell either, but the story sounds intriguing and Jake in a crazy comedy sounds absolutely great.
ReplyDeleteDavid is such a jerk *sigh*
ReplyDeleteJessica B always looks kinda like she needs a bath.
ReplyDeleteJessica B and Catherine Keener have only nice things to say about Russell.
ReplyDeleteNothing like the end of the world to celebrate the New Year.

ReplyDeleteHuh? Nichols, I can understand but Gyllenho? When did that happen?!?
If Jakey was with Reese we would have got 71 pics of it!
ReplyDeleteAt Christmas that is......

ReplyDeleteAre you saying that Jake shouldn't be compared to Leo?

Reese and Jake’s Date with the Downeys
ReplyDeleteStepping out for a post-Christmas get-together on the hiking trails of Ojai, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were spotted out exercising with Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan on Friday (December 26).

I'll only be tuning in to see the Best Supporting Actor award, so hopefully I'll miss Reeke entirely! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo where are the stepkids?
ReplyDelete^^ Maybe with Dad? He is back from Australia.....Reese gets Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.....Ryan gets them for the rest of the weekend? Not in the know or anything just a guess
ReplyDeletePower tools? How manly. I guess that PR told him to drop the lingerie-buying trips and yoga classes. I guess that it's better to build tables in Ojai with your gal-pal with another closet case (Downey) and avoid your family than worry about who didn't show up for your fake birthday party.

ReplyDeleteAn insider = Reeke PR.
Oh, but weren't the whole family spending Christmas together?
ReplyDeleteAnd nice to see the Downeys are willing to play the game.
And who invited the paps to Ojay? Or are we meant to believe the paps hand around the mountains there? LOL
HW royalty? my ass! Poor Jakey doesn't even have a project and Reese is fast becoming the romcom queen.
hand = hang
ReplyDeleteJust want to know if the "insider" is the same one who said they were marrying on the 19 Dec. hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteOr maybe the one who said they were getting married in MV....can't remember when!
The big birthday party was just spinning from Liz Smith, I never ecalled Jake having any major birthday bash hrown by his family nor Kiki nor Reese for Ryan.
ReplyDeleteLiz prolly heard that he was getting his b-day off and she spun to make it sound intersting.
I would asume that the kids are with Ryan, that's why he flew home, I assume the kids spent x-mas with Reese.
