Bittersweet

Actor Cheyenne Jackson talks to The Advocate about being out in Hollywood, closeted actors, his childhood, coming out and everyday domestic dramas.

My favorite part:

"As a pleasant contrast to the e-mails he receives through his website from right-wing Christians warning him that he’ll “die a horrible death," Jackson’s inbox is regularly flooded with messages from small-town teenage boys whom he’s inspired to come out. "One of them asked me to send him a picture, and he said he held it as he told his family because it gave him strength. A couple weeks later when his friend was going to come out, he let the friend hold my picture. It’s kind of heavy, but at the same time if they feel support and strength just by the way I live my life, that’s great."

It’s a comfort Jackson didn’t have attending House of the Lord Christian Academy in his tiny, rural hometown of Newport-Oldtown on the Washington-Idaho border -- "very Little House on the Prairie," he says -- where the only gays were known as "the dump dykes," two mullet-sporting lesbians who ran the local garbage dump. "The school would quote Scripture -- ‘It is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord to lie down with another man’ -- and I was told that I would be going to hell, so from a very young age I knew that it was something that I would have to deal with later in life."

Though Jackson always had girlfriends, his heart belonged to Chuck, his best friend in high school. "I was in love with him," Jackson recalls. "I truly thought that we would be together. If he got a girlfriend, I’d purposely make sure that my girlfriend was best friends with his girlfriend so that we could always do shit together. He was a Mormon, and right before he left on his mission, I took him to lunch and said, ‘Chuck…’ And he said, ‘I know. I’ve always known.’ And I was like, ‘You have? Oh, my God!’ To this day, he’s still a friend, but now he’s married and has five kids."

Other sources say Orlando has the role.

    &

Jake Gyllenhaal Up For Lead in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time? Orlando Bloom is Not.

Can I just say that I could not stomach the marketing for another movie, let alone a trilogy’s worth, where Orlando Bloom massages a meticulously groomed goatee while having a sword fight? Gracias. Thankfully, Latino Review reports via numerous anonymous sources that an offer has gone out to Jake Gyllenhaal for the lead in Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer’s summer 2009 golden egg Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Their tip arrives as yesterday’s rumor that Bloom had signed a $40 million deal to star in the franchise was dismissed by Slashfilm’s brothers from another Film School Rejects.

The entire Bloom rumor seemed so out of whack that we held out reporting it, especially since it pegged Jerry Bruckheimer to direct instead of produce. Director Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) has been attached for quite a while, and it seems nothing has changed.

Gyllenhaal’s peers all have franchises in the can or on the way, and while he’s not the obvious choice for the adventure video game adaptation (who remems playing it on Turbo Duo?), he definitely adds legitimacy like Depp did for POTC. Latino Review goes on to parlay Hollywood jogging encounters with Mr. Gyllenhaal and points out that he currently has a bum ankle from basketball. Point being: Can Jake’s lil’ ankle heal in time?!?! Hahah. More on this as it develops…

Why do you continue to treat George Clooney like a god? His comment about Charleton Heston's disease was so sad and immature it's unbelievable! Clooney is an aging, attention-loving, too-short has-been actor! Let's focus on someone younger and hotter. Next...

    Dear Ageist Atheist:
Before Heston passed on, Clooney did make a joke about the NRA head's Alzheimer's condition. I say all's fair in love and war (which is what the right to easily buy guns and off whomever you like is). Good for George.

Rumors of Orlando Bloom Being 'Prince of Persia' Denied

Earlier, the "Pirates of Caribbean" hunk Orlando Bloom has been hit with rumors stating that he has been tapped to star in the forthcoming "Prince of Persia" trilogy. However, the speculations apparently held no truth at all as they were quickly being slammed down by Walt Disney Pictures.

It is explained in the latest reports regarding the rumors that when asked for the confirmation about the circulating gossip, Disney have stated that the story is a false one. According to Cinema Blend, their Disney contact has rejected the casting story stating, "I can assure you that there is absolutely no truth to the rumors that have circulated today with regards to Orlando Bloom."

Prior to the dismissal of the rumors, it was reported that the former boyfriend of actress Kate Bosworth has signed a $40 million deal with the studio to topline the trilogy. Allegedly, the 31-year-old actor has beaten competition from another heartthrob Zac Efron for the leading role.

Based on the popular video game of the same title, "Prince of Persia" trilogy are action adventure fantasy films that is set in medieval Persia which is described to be the mightiest and the most mysterious kingdom on Earth. The first of the trilogy, "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", will be helmed by Mike Newell. Further, the shooting of the first film is expected to start in Morocco in mid-June.

Jake Gyllenhaal Offered 'Prince of Persia'?

Following the rebuttal to Orlando Bloom's rumors, a new speculation regarding who will be tackling the top role in the action adventure film "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" surfaces. According to Latino Review, the "Jarhead" actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been offered with the role of Dastan in the Walt Disney Pictures' movie project.

Review claimed that they got the scoop about the co-star of Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" from multiple Hollywood sources. Despite stating that Gyllenhaal is fit for the role which requires a lot of physical stunts, the site further suggested that it is likely that Disney may not hire the actor since he hurt his ankle earlier. Still, there are no words coming from either Disney or Gyllenhaal's camp regarding the new rumor.

"Sands of Time" is a feature film based on a popular video game of the same title. Set in medieval Persia, the film is said to be the first of three. It will be directed by "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" helmer Mike Newell and produced by "Pirates of the Caribbean" filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer.

Prince Of Persia: Blue Sky Script Review...
    ...
This is going to be an EPIC movie. Think of it as "Gladiator" set in the world of "1001 Arabian Nights" with a little of the time travel from "Back to the Future" thrown in. Michael Bay has the Herculean task of casting, filming and completing this Arabian adventure in less than two years. We should be hearing about casting soon if this one is to meet its release date.

As I said before, I'm not a fan of the game so I don't know how faithfully it was followed. Now...

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is the story of Dastan, a twenty-something handsome Prince of a large Persian empire during the 9th century. Dastan is noble and wise for his age. His ambition is to make something of himself so that he may honor his father. In otherwords, he wants glory, not gold. He has three Prince brothers: Farhad and Farhan, two older twins who are politically conniving out for treasure and power and the oldest, wise brother named Tus, the heir to the throne of their father, King Shahraman. And then there is Nizam the Royal Adviser... a very "Jafar-like" role.

'Heath Meant A Lot To A Lot Of People'
    ...
After Ledger's death, there were concerns that the film could be scrapped and the actor's final scenes lost forever. Then, Troyer remembered, something very special happened.

"We had Johnny Depp, we had Colin Farrell, we had Jude Law come in and do scenes, just to honor Heath," he explained. "[Now], when Heath goes into the mirror, he comes out as another person, and that's where these other actors come in."

As those A-listers helped complete the film, Troyer and many of the other people in the "Parnassus" family devised their own tribute to the "Brokeback Mountain" star. "There was a note that Heath had written his e-mail on and had given it to Holly, who is Terry's daughter and a publicist for the film," he explained. "After his e-mail, he scribbled a heart on it."

Now, that very scribble is inked forever on Troyer's right hand. "A lot of us went and copied that heart and had it tattooed, in remembrance of Heath," he explained, showing off his heartfelt symbol. "We had it copied identical to how he scribbled it. ... [We have it in] various places. I believe Lily got it on the inside of her arm. Holly got it up on the inside of her arm."

  18. I see Jake in this role, much more than I do Bloom (acting wise, just no. I'm not saying Jake is the second coming of Brando, but compared to Bloom, well...) or Efron (kinda WASPY looking). Physically, he kinda has this exotic thing going on for him (I'm reminded of the SNL skit where Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler constantly ask him, "Are you part Indian or what?", so the Persian angle isn't too far of a stretch. I know he isn't that popular around here, but I hope he gets it. The movie sounds cool.

  36. Oprah is having a show on Friday about being gay around the world.

    Oprah:

Newsweek calls it a "global civil rights revolution." Around the world, gays and lesbians are making dramatic strides, but in some countries, being gay could get you killed or land you in prison.

According to the U.S. State Department, intercourse between two people of the same sex in Uganda is punishable by life in prison. In Algeria, homosexuality is illegal, viewed as a moral abomination, and "honor killings" by family members are reportedly common. In Nigeria, men convicted of having sexual relations with other men can be stoned to death. In Saudi Arabia, gay men have been beheaded in public squares. In 2001, 52 Egyptian men who were suspected of being gay were imprisoned and tortured.

Indeed, Brokeback Mountain was only technically an independent film; Focus Features is just the arthouse subsidiary of Universal Studios.

“Brokeback Mountain had all the ingredients of any big budget feature,” says George Bamber, director of 2005 gay indie hit The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green; he cites Brokeback Mountain’s big-name stars, A-list director, and an easy-to-understand concept. That, together with something in the zeitgeist and the high quality of the film itself, explains its breakout success and the fact that it overcame the stigma that still surrounds gay cinema.

Faced with the diminishing box office returns and skyrocketing publicity costs, gay film companies such as here! Networks are experimenting with accelerated release schedules. 38. Top 10 Metrosexual Celebs

Originating in a 1994 article by Mark Simpson, Wikipedia defines metrosexuals as: heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically seen among gay men. It wasn't until almost a decade later when a group of gay guys with an eye for straight men brought the word into the American lexicon. Of course, Hollywood is a breeding ground for the metro community, so I give the list of the top 10 metrosexual celebrities in no particular order:

    10. Orlando Bloom
He hit it big playing an elven archer and from then on showed the world just how conditioned curly brown locks could be. To this day there are fights about who is prettier in the "Pirates" movies, Bloom or Johnny Depp. I'm actually thinking of writing my doctoral thesis on this debate.

    9. Zac Efron
Quick - name a movie where Zac Efron doesn't play a pretty boy who sings to the girl of his affection. Bet you couldn't think of one. Oh, and have you seen that hair? A normal man can't do that with his hair. I've tried, for hours.

    8. Ryan Seacrest
He has to bleach his teeth at least once a day. Though I suppose when your talent is hosting things, the prettier you look, the easier it is to distract the audience from the real talent. Does he still frost his hair?

    7. David Beckham
How does he even have time to be a soccer star when he spends most of his day trying to look prettier than Posh Spice? He is pretty much the quintessential metro guy, and most women and a bunch of men aren't complaining about that.

    6. Brad Pitt
When he isn't adopting kids with his life partner, Pitt makes a living having impossibly rock-hard abs and a chiseled face for a man of his years (He's 45!). Oh, and did you see him in Fight Club? Suddenly underground fighting became a spectator sport for a whole different set of reasons.

    5. Johnny Depp
Whenever you see him on the red carpet, Depp seems to be a hybrid of the metrosexual and the homeless man. He's trying to hide his pretty boy nature with weird facial hair, but you know he spends at least two hours on it each morning. And for that Johnny, you'll always be a beacon of the metro lifestyle. Oh, and Jack Sparrow, enough said.

    4. Hugh Jackman
The odd thing about Jackman is that he is known for playing Wolverine, a beer swilling man's man who would stab any man who looked at him sideways. Then you see him in interviews or in his role as Peter Allen in "Boy from Oz" on Broadway. Sorry Hugh, you're not fooling anyone, we know you spend your grooming time singing, and singing really well for that matter.

    3. Ryan Reynolds
From a pretty boy on Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place to Van Wilder to Hannibal King in Blade, Ryan Reynolds just can't escape his naturally soft and feminine look. Maybe it's that sweet funny guy attitude, or the fact that his hair is permanently in that messy-spiky style. Or the fact that even buffed up with facial hair Ryan Reynolds never looks like he worked a day in his life.

    2. Ashton Kutcher
Have you seen the commercial for the new ABC show he's producing? He's basically strutting down a hallway like a model on the runway. Kutcher is all about the hair, which is probably how he landed Demi Moore. Say what you will about the masculinity of a metro guy, he landed the queen of all cougars!

    1. Jake Gyllenhaal
He was manlier in Brokeback Mountain than he is in real life. Gyllenhaal has that brooding theater guy look who you know ignored the girls in high school to learn lines for the spring drama production. Now he's all grown up and became the man theater guys aspire to become - talented, deep, and good looking. You don't think that persona comes naturally. It takes years of practice and hours of work each morning. Trust me.

Honorable Mentions (Either too manly, too skeezy, or too gay)

    - Tom Cruise
    - George Clooney
    - Matthew McConaughey

And then sometimes there are people who know more than you but show you, and that's the maximum you can hope for - doing that with someone who says, "I like you for what you are, and I want you to be in my picture." I didn't have to fake it or put on a mask - all the resources I had inside me were more than adequate. I don't want to pretend to be something ... I'm not pretending any more to fit somebody's mold. That's a long-winded statement but - why not do what you really think, even if it's a mistake?

  47. Audience Upset Over Heath Ledger Scene In Dark Knight Screening

Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in the upcoming movie The Dark Knight might be a little too much for audiences to handle.

An early screening of the movie left viewers stunned to see Heath's character playing dead in a bodybag. The unsettling scene has prompted studio bosses at Warner Brothers to consider cutting the footage from the sequel when it hits theaters in July.

While it is very disturbing to see given the circumstances, it doesn't seem like Heath would have wanted it to happen. A source close to Hollyscoop that worked on the film said Heath put his heart and soul into his role as the Joker. It only seems right to keep his entire performance, or as much as possible, in the movie.

  59. Jake Gyllenhaal Is Our New Prince Of Persia?

We got ourselves all in a tizzy when we thought Orlando Bloom had been cast as the prince in the Prince of Persia movie. And even before that we had ourselves convinced that an actual prince would be cast in the role. Neither rumor so far has turned out to be true.

But hey, let’s try another rumor on for size! Latino Review has it from unnamed sources at Disney that the role has been offered to Jake Gyllenhaal, who was neither Persian nor a prince, last I checked. Granted, this is the ultimate kind of rumor, confirmed but no one except one site and going off very little hard information. So, y’know, take it with a grain of salt.

So what do you think, die-hard Prince of Persia fans? Gyllenhaal has never really seemed the action hero to me, and he’s done well for himself taking smaller, serious roles that actually use his talents rather than forcing him to fight invisible laser beams or whatever. I mean, we all saw what happened to Tobey Maguire. But hey, a paycheck’s a paycheck, and this could be the movie that at least guarantees everyone can pronounce his name. I still think it’ll be David Zandi, the bona fide prince, who gets the role, but speculation is always fun in the meantime.

  60. Elton John laments American misogyny at Hillary gig

Singer Sir Elton John has attacked the sexist attitude of some American voters at a fundraising concert for Hillary Clinton last night. Senator Clinton is one of two leading candidates for the Democratic party nomination for President, and she appeared on stage with Sir Elton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Last night's event at Radio City Music Hall in New York City raised more than $2.5m (Ł1.26m) for her campaign.

He told the crowd: "I've always been a Hillary supporter. There is no one more qualified to lead America.

"Having said that, I never cease to be amazed at the misogynistic attitude of some people in this country. And I say to hell with them.

"The reason I'm here tonight is to play music, but more importantly as someone who comes from abroad, and is in America quite a lot of the time and extremely interested in the political process because it effects the whole world.

"I love you Hillary, I'll be there for you."

Sir Elton sang several of his classic songs at the concert, such as Rocket Man, Daniel and Your Song.

Senator Clinton is the first woman to make a serious bid for the White House. In 1984 Democrat Walter Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his Vice Presidential running mate but they were overwhelmingly defeated by sitting President Ronald Reagan and VP George Bush Snr. Barack Obama, Senator Clinton's rival, is the first black candidate since Jesse Jackson ran for the party nomination in 1988.

Last year a Gallup poll found that 94% of Americans would vote for an African-American President. Only 88% said they would vote for a woman President.

Singer Rufus Wainright’s new global initiative grabs the spotlight in the new Advocate. Actually, it doesn’t take the spotlight, because Wainwright is getting all green and shit. His recent New York gig used no lights, amplifiers or anything else than can sully our planet. The move’s all part of Wainwright’s Blackout Sabbath, an effort to combat our typical wasteful selves.

    In his own words:

I propose this: on a Saturday around the summer solstice for a 12-hour period (noon ti midnight) whereever you are, let’s all turn off the power at the same time… This time could be spent contemplating along or with friends on the coming year and what personally one can do to save the planet.

  63. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

    So, what’s the film about?

The film is about Prince Dastan and his father, King Sharaman, passing through India on their way home to Azad. While in India they defeat the Maharajah of India and basically steal all the Maharajah’s treasures as well as his daughter, Farah. Amongst the treasures is a giant hourglass full of sand and a mysterious dagger. The Maharajah’s Vizier helps the Prince and his father to overthrow his Maharajah for a share of the treasure. Once they reach Azad, the Vizier demands that the King give him the dagger as he was promised that he could choose whatever he wanted from the treasure (I personally would have picked Farah). The King refuses to give him the dagger as it was the Prince who found it and it was the Princes who now owns it. The Vizier then tricks the young Prince into using the dagger to open the Hourglass. Once he does this, the magical sand escapes from the hourglass and destroys the city and turns everyone in the city into sand creatures, all except the Prince, The Vizier and Farah.

  64. Heath Ledger's Dark Knight Performance Saved?

Earlier today we were the first place to break the story here that there might be trouble with The Dark Knight’s final cut. The movie has been shown to test screening audiences, who apparently reacted very badly to a scene in which Heath Ledger, as the Joker, pretends to be dead. Our source told us the reaction was so bad, that studio bosses may have been considering taking the scene out.

Now our buddy Clint over at Moviehole says his sources tell him that all is well. He confirms what we told you earlier, that the scene has apparently disturbed the audiences it’s been shown to, but says that they’re leaving it in anyway. His source says, “I KNOW for a fact that that scene is in the film. I also know that WB has made no such mandate and that Chris [Nolan] is honest when saying that he will not change what was intended with The Joker.”

Lawsuit Over Heath Ledger and Alleged Coke

TMZ has learned a lawsuit is about to be filed, alleging two photogs and a photo agency set Heath Ledger up in a cocaine sting.

According to the as yet to be filed suit, Heath was at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in West Hollywood the night he lost the SAG award for "Brokeback Mountain." The plaintiff, listed as Jane Doe, was dating one of the photogs.

The photogs had befriended Heath and invited him up to the woman's room to party, never disclosing their true intentions. As Heath allegedly did coke, the photogs secretly videotaped the whole thing. When Heath realized what was happening, he went ballistic. A rep for Heath tells TMZ the video does not show the actor doing illegal drugs.

"E.T." bought and promoted the tape, but then decided not to air it.

Unclear why Jane Doe is suing.

Are you a gay actor looking for a beard?

    Then look no further.

This B/C list actress from at least two very hit television shows is willing to be your beard for a price. Apparently this actress has been approaching actors at parties who the public perceives as gay or are on the fence about and is willing to be their girlfriend for a price. The thing is it gets even better. She is offering more than just the services of a single woman in her 30's to act as a girlfriend. See, our actress is married and her celebrity husband is completely on board with the plan. Their idea is that any guy who can break up a marriage or at least appear to break up a marriage must be straight, at least in the eyes of the public. Meanwhile, the gay actor can enjoy fun times with our actress' husband who happens to like playing on both sides of the fence. This just has win/win written all over it doesn't it.

  99. Natalie Portman's Set to Star in 'Wuthering Heights'

    Apr 11 2008

Natalie Portman's schedule is filling up. She's attached to act in and direct a segment of the anthology New York, I Love You, just completed work on Jim Sheridan's Brothers alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, and has A Tale of Love and Darkness in the works. And now word comes that Portman will handle a starring role in the latest film adaptation of Wuthering Heights.

Based on the novel by Emily Bronte first published in 1847, Wuthering Heights will be directed by John Maybury (The Jacket) from a screenplay by Olivia Hetreed (Girl with a Pearl Earring). Bronte's beloved novel told the story of Heathcliff, a poor English boy, and his undying love for the wealthy Cathy Earnshaw. There's no news yet on who will play the role of Heathcliff. Filming is expected to begin in the fall.

Portman was recently seen on the big screen in The Other Boleyn Girl opposite Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana.

  103. Heath Ledger Set Up in Cocaine Sting?
    ...
However, considering the stories that have been circulating since Ledger’s death, including claims to his family’s estate, and announcements of alleged baby mamas, it’s hard to discern what’s truthful regarding the Australian actor.

The plaintiff of the lawsuit involving Ledger’s alleged coke use is listed as “Jane Doe”, and was the girlfriend of one of the photographers. It was her hotel room in which the incident supposedly took place. There’s no clear reason why the anonymous person is suing, but such legal action would certainly help gain publicity for a scandalous video made two years ago, about a controversial albeit deceased actor, Heath Ledger. The footage had been sold to “Entertainment Tonight”, but they have chosen not to air it, so far.

There is something about her I respect very much. I know there are rumors from fans that she got pregnant to keep Heath and I know the relationship with Heath didn't last very long, but I think she loved and respected him.
I hope she stays strong and private as she has always been and I wish her daughter a happy childhood. And whatever guy she'll hook up with I hope he'll love Matilda too and treat her right. Of course no guy will love her like her father did.
Before all this Reeke mess I was hoping that Jake would spend some time with Michelle and Matilda, but he rather spent his time in L.A. and Mexico with Reese, but I'm glad Michelle's mom was in N.Y. to support her for a while.

  113. Article from August 2007

    Clooney has a long-term boyfriend?

"Clooney claims the early experience of his brief, failed marriage to actress Talia Balsam put him off matrimonial commitment for life and it's no surprise that the internet is alive with gossip about his sexual preferences.

On the web, he is described as 'queer as a deer', with one writer exhorting: "Come out of the closet, George, and get some fresh air!"

Clooney, it has to be said, fuels this speculation for reasons that are hard to fathom. The issue of homosexuality seems to be constantly on his mind, for during endless interviews he brings up the topic. When profiled by Entertainment Weekly recently alongside his great friend Brad Pitt, he said that they met "in the baths. On Pico Boulevard", adding: "You wouldn't have recognised me with the leather hood on." When he, Pitt, fellow actor Matt Damon and producer Jerry Weintraub placed their hands and footprints in the concrete outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, he quipped: "If I had to be on my hands and knees with three guys ,I can't think of better guys to do it with."

During the filming of Ocean's Thirteen, he played a joke on Pitt by posting a sticker on his car which read: "I'm gay and I vote." It's all most curious.

And the whispers are not quieted by the continual presence of Waldo Sanchez, a handsome and charming hairdresser who often accompanies George on his world travels. They met in the mid-1990s, when Clooney was just becoming famous as Dr Doug Ross on ER.

Sanchez, who was doing hair on the TV show The New Adventures Of Superman, bumped into him in the studio car park and they became close buddies. Since then, Sanchez has been the credited hairdresser on no fewer than 15 Clooney films — actually, he's worked on only a handful of movies that don't star Clooney. "He's one of the good guys," Sanchez told an interviewer.

It must be said that Clooney seems to put particular emphasis on the importance of a gaggle of male friends he calls the 'good-time gang'. These are nine men, and apart from Sanchez (a relatively new addition), they include friends who have known him for two decades.
    ...

Is George Clooney going into mid-life meltdown?

P.S. Waldo Sanchez worked on Leatherheads and latest Clooney movie Burn After Reading.

  134. No need for worries, Jake and Russell are spiritual Buddhist brothers - they are both Robert Thurman students!

    Filming "I Heart Huckabees":

"The shoot, Mr. Russell decided, wouldn't be a typical Hollywood affair. It would be an intimate, personal experience for a handful of actors otherwise accustomed to populating magazine covers and award ceremonies. Both the movie and the set would be extensions of Mr. Russell's own uncensored, often unpredictable personality, and an opportunity for him to explore profound spiritual questions that have preoccupied him for years. (Indeed, the original idea for the movie was based on Buddhist theories Mr. Russell first learned in college from Robert Thurman, Uma Thurman's father.) "The whole thing is an existential meditation," Mr. Russell explained in one of several interviews through the making of the film. But the experience turned out to be no blissed-out meditation session. To get the performances he was after, Mr. Russell did all he could to raise the level of tension on set, unapologetically goading, shocking and teasing his actors. Sometimes these techniques prompted reactions that were less than photogenic. And in perhaps the most un-Hollywood move of all, Mr. Russell allowed a reporter to watch.

The actors look tired. As he has throughout the shoot, Mr. Russell is touching them — a lot, and sometimes in private places. At one point, Mr. Wahlberg grabs the director's megaphone, shouting: "This man just grabbed my genitals! It is my first man-on-man contact!" At other times, the director whispers into the actresses' ears — lewdly, they later say — before a take.

  144. I never would have guessed that my feeligs for Jake would change. Ever since Brokeback I loved him, watched every movie of his. After he hooked up with Reese, I don't know for what reasons, my feelings started to change. Either he did it for bearding purposes or out of love, it doesn't matter, I thought in both cases the relationship would be very public and this can't be good for his professional life. Then his behaviour after Heath died. Going shopping in Soho shortly after Heath passed, not paying tribute like so many others close to Heath did etc. I'm not a die hard fan anymore, I certainly won't follow him as closely, nevertheless I wish him success in his professional life, since he gave us Jack Twist in BBM. Of course I wish Heath success with his two last roles too.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Fincher is not an SOB--he's a slav driver. Very different from Russell who's a mean, nasty tyrant. He's so mean and nasty that he got into a fist fight with Clooney when they were filming a movie because Clooney got upset with how mean and nasty Russell was to the extras.

I completely agree. The Soho shopping/dining/having a great time incident was the turning point in the change of my feelings for Jake. I don't dislike him but I'm not a gung-ho fan anymore.

As for Heath, I miss him.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Jake strikes me as a bit egoistical, I don't say he is a bad person, but he seems to always put his interests first. He's very ambitious. I do believe he was upset about Heath, but he certainly didn't let the situation with Heath interrupt his plans. I think Jake didn't release a statement or payed tribute, because he expected many other co-stars of Heath wouldn't do it either. He must have been surprised by the reaction of fans and co-stars. Now it's too late for anything from Jake, otherwise it would just seem disingenuine and he knows it. He'll probably talk about him in an interview for one of his upcoming movies.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Add to the Soho stuff the photo ops with Reese and her kids taken four days after Heath's death. That was really off putting considering he didn't even bother attending either of Heath's memorials. I wish him well but my respect for him completely disappeared after that kind of behavior.

    That's what I said, he didn't let Heath's passing interrupt his business/life.

Didn't someone in Gyllenbabble report that Jake attened the first L.A. memorial? I don't know how credible that is.
I'm from Germany and in one magazine "Gala" it was reported that he didn't attend any of the memorials.

  152. "Didn't someone in Gyllenbabble report that Jake attened the first L.A. memorial?"

You answered your own question with this. Gyllenbabble would say anything to defend Jake, that was a bs rumor not a report.

He didn't attend any of Heath's memorials, if he would have we would know, trust.

  153. Didn't someone in Gyllenbabble report that Jake attened the first L.A. memorial?

It was a fake Reeke sighting posted on some blog and deleted few days later. UV and Babblers insisted it happened even though no other reports mentioned Jake or Reese attending any of the memorials. Babblers slicked to their “truth” because they don’t dare to question any Reeke sighting.

Neither his people nor Reese can make him do anything, he behaved the way he did willingly. Sorry, but the Phonyspoon PR campaign excuse is bloody old and boring.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Oh please no one can force him into anything.

I didn't say that - Jake has a choice, of course he does. It is his decision to be part of Phonyspoon but at the moment we can't be sure about the real reason for it. I'm just saying that real Jake is hidden behind this farce.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I have to agree with you guys. This whole situation has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I’m really having a hard time caring anything about Jake these days. I was just so hurt when I realized that someone I admired was not the person I thought they were and I'm not talking about the gay/straight issue either. The person I thought he was would have never acted this way to his friends, co-workers, and fans. I guess I just fell for the act. It's just such a disappointment. I know I don’t have the right to judge him and I wish him well in the future but I'm just not really into him anymore.

  164. Heath Ledger steals spotlight for The Joker

HEATH Ledger is stealing the spotlight from beyond the grave in one of Hollywood's most anticipated blockbusters of the year.

Chilling promotional images of Ledger portraying the Joker from the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight, have been released - nearly three months after the Perth-born actor was found dead in New York.

In one scene from the film, Ledger is dressed in a white nurse's uniform, wielding a gun and wearing a surgical mask. In another, his face painted with the Joker's trademark evil grin in red, he points a gun directly at the camera. These are just two of the many images film company Warner Bros is using to promote The Dark Knight, to be released in Australia on July 17.

From the movie's promotional material to the trailer, Ledger appears to be the main attraction, with Christian Bale, who plays Batman, taking a back seat. One poster for The Dark Knight features only Ledger as the Joker, creepily peering through a frosted window with the catchphrase: ``Why so serious?'' written in blood.

The film also stars Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Bale _ reprising his role as Batman. Ledger's role as the smudge-faced villain is tipped to be his greatest performance, prompting early buzz that he could be nominated for an Oscar award.

"Heath was an incredible actor and he brought a very, very scary Joker to life,'' said Bale. ``Heath shocked us as the Joker and his death shocked all of us.'' Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on January 22 after an accidental overdose. The Dark Knight is the last feature film he completed before his death. He was filming Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus days before he died but wasn't able to finish the film.

Ledger had big shoes to fill by taking on the role of the Joker, which was made famous by Jack Nicholson. During filming, Ledger said the darkness of the role had troubled him.

"He's just out of control - no empathy, he's a sociopath, a psychotic, mass-murdering clown,'' Ledger said of the character before his death.

Veteran Michael Caine has also spoken highly of Ledger's Joker portrayal. "Jack (Nicholson) was like a really scary old, nasty uncle with a funny face,'' Caine said. ``Heath's like the most murderous psychopath you've ever seen on the screen.''

    ReplyDelete
  171. 1:43 Most of his minuscule fanbase consists of internet fans the majority being BBM fans then a few TBs and a few fangurls/boys. JG isn't very famous among the large public.

For instance most of my friends don’t know who the guy is and even those who think he looks good are not interested in seeing his movies unless the buzz is huge which hasn't been the case since BBM. He's not a popular actor outside the internet hence his inability to open a movie or to do well at the BO. So I'd say he should cling to the few fans he has not give them the bird the way he has been doing for the past few months.

  175. I bet anything that Brothers will flop.

For me there are two different kind of flops: bad movie / bad role and good movie / good role flops.

For example, Moonlight Mile was a flop with $10 mil total gross, but it's a good movie and all star cast got great reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I just checked box office mojo and it made me laugh:

    Rendition $9.7 Mil domestic gross
    Penelope $9.7 Mil domestic gross
Stop Loss $10 Mil domestic gross

Stop Loss recently opened so it will still make a bit more domestically. Can't compare the foreign grosses yet since Stop Loss has not yet opened internationally. Guess big stars Reese and Jake can't even compete with largely unknown Ryan Philippe. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  177. most of my friends don’t know who the guy is and even those who think he looks good are not interested in seeing his movies

Same here. Nobody knows who Jake is. Even his relationship with Reese isn't upping his profile. Most people still don't know Ryan Philippe. Those who do learned his name after the scandal associated with the divorce. Jake is playing the same role that Ryan did only he's completely lost his own identity in the process.

  180. bet anything that Brothers will flop. Jim Sheridan hasn't made a good film in years and Tobey, Natalie (can't wait to see her stuff up Wuthering Heights with that english accent of hers!) and Jake all have very little range as actors

ITA. I can never tell what emotion Tobey is trying to convey. He always appears to be using his last ounce of energy to utter his lines. Natalie has energy but her performances seem wooden to me. Jake also lacks range. His problem is that he overacts to compensate for his inablility to truly express certain emotions. As much as I loved him in BBM I still cringed at his acting in several scenes.

  183. Here's an excerpt from a Playboy interview with the star of Three Kings, George Clooney:

PLAYBOY: What made you want to do [Three Kings]?
CLOONEY: David Russell wrote as good a script as I've ever read. I fought to get it. He wanted a lot of other actors before me. They went to Mel and to Nic Cage. I wanted to work on this movie. David is in many ways a genius, though I learned that he's not a genius when it comes to people skills.
PLAYBOY: Did you learn about that the hard way?
CLOONEY: I did. He yelled and screamed at people all day, from day one.

PLAYBOY: Did he yell at you?
CLOONEY: At me often — and at someone daily. He'd throw off his headset and scream, 'Today the sound department flicked me!' For me, it came to a head a couple of times. Once, he went after a camera-car driver who I knew from high school. I had nothing to do with his getting his job, but David began yelling and screaming at him and embarrassing him in front of everybody. I told him, 'You can yell and scream and even fire him, but what you can't do is humiliate him in front of people. Not on my set, if I have any say about it.'

Another time he screamed at the script supervisor and made her cry. I wrote him a letter and said, 'Look, I don't know why you do this. You've written a brilliant script, and I think you're a good director. Let's not have a set like this. I don't like it and I don't work well like this.' I'm not one of those actors who likes things in disarray. He read the letter and we started all over again.

But later, we were three weeks behind schedule, which puts some pressure on you, and he was in a bad mood. These army kids, who were working as extras, were supposed to tackle us. David wanted one of the extras to grab me and throw me down. This kid was a little nervous about it, and David walked up to him and grabbed him. He pushed him onto the ground.

He kicked him and screamed, 'Do you want to be in this f**king movie? Then throw him to the f**king ground!' The second assistant director came up and said, 'You don't do that, David. You want them to do something, you tell me.' David grabbed his walkie-talkie and threw it on the ground. He screamed, 'Shut the f**k up! F**k you, and the AD goes, 'F**k you! I quit.' He walked off.

It was a dangerous time. I'd sent him this letter. I was trying to make things work, so I went over and put my arm around him. I said, 'David, it's a big day. But you can't shove, push, or humiliate people who aren't allowed to defend themselves.' He turned on me and said, 'Why don't you just worry about your f**ked-up act? You're being a d**k. You want to hit me? You want to hit me? Come on, pussy, hit me.' I'm looking at him like he's out of his mind. Then he started banging me on the head with his head. He goes, 'Hit me, you pussy. Hit me.' Then he got me by the throat and I went nuts. I had him by the throat. I was going to kill him. Kill him. Finally, he apologized, but I walked away. By then, the Warner Bros. guys were freaking out. David sort of pouted through the rest of the shoot and we finished the movie, but it was truly, without exception, the worst experience of my life."
